  1. I would not trust Lew's file to solve your problems. Plus it's Lew so you never know if he's going to be passing around a virus or something. I would either do the system restore or reinstall Chief. If all else fails, call tech support.
  2. You don't need to manually add your own callouts. You just need to force the callout to show. The callouts and labels only show when the cabinet (or other object) is actually visible on the screen. If you need to see a callout when the object is being blocked by another object you can always force it to show up. The trick is that you need to select the object to open the spec dialog while in the view where you want to see it. I usually use the delete surface tool until I can select the object. Once selected, open the dialog, go to the label tab and check the option to always show the callout in the current view. You can also turn off a callout that is showing when you don't want it to using the same method.
  3. Check your spam folder for the email? If you never got it, you are probably going to have to call them on Monday.
  4. Not that this has anything to do with Tony's problem, but I would love to be able to make a schedule for just one room. If I am going to do a cabinet schedule, I want separate ones for the kitchens and baths instead of just organizing them in one schedule.
  5. The only thing I can think of is the "minimum display size" setting in your preferences. Mine is set to 0 but if you have set yours to some large value you could get this problem.
  6. Turn off the "walls, main layer only" layer.
  7. For walls or railings that don't show up in camera views I would check the following: - make sure the correct layer is turned on in the layer set for the current view. I like to use the "object layer properties" button to check the layer. - make sure the wall/room heights are correct. You can modify the wall heights manually so that it won't draw. If either "default wall top height" or "default wall bottom height" are enabled on the wall/railing structure tab, then you can check them to reset the heights. - make sure the materials are correct. You can actually build a wall out of an invisible material such as "air gap" or one that is completely transparent. - maybe something else? This is why posting a plan is usually recommended. As for attaching a plan, you first have to browse for the zip file using the "choose file" button and then use the "attach this file" button. Some people forget to use the attach button and then it doesn't work.
  8. Yes. It shows the printed page number as long as the page will print otherwise it is blank. Yes. For reference, I used "printed page %page.print% of %numpages%". As far as I can tell, it works exactly like it did in 16.3 and I can't see where anything was changed.
  9. My raytrace progress and layout print macros seem to both be working fine with the update.
  10. I usually do all of my editing in the wall details.
  11. Are you trying this in a wall detail or plan view? Did you change the setting for the marquee select in preferences?
  12. "Ultimately I want to chamfer the corners of a polyline rectange, I can't seem to do it while it's a polyline, maybe I'm missing something?" You do not need to explode the polyline to add a chamfer but you do need to set the chamfer distance first. Just click on the chamfer tool a second time and set the value to something other than 0.
  13. You can turn on "automatically rebuild foundation" in the build foundation dialog and then any changes you make on the first floor will result in the foundation walls being rebuilt. This is probably not very useful if you have a finished basement though. When you are manually moving your basement walls to line them up with your first floor walls, it usually a good idea to turn on the "reference display" so that you can see them. Also, if you have walls that are close but not exact, you will see an edit button called "align with wall above" which is very handy to line them back up.
  14. Walls also have their own setting for temp dimensions.
  15. The easiest way to get something from one plan to another is to just use copy/paste. If you need to copy a large section of the plan, then use the Edit Area tool.
  16. The problem I was seeing went away with the 16.3 update and I have not seen anything like what you have posted. You should post the plan or contact tech support.
  17. The simple answer is that your plan is too big for your machine. And by too big, I mean it has too many surfaces in the camera view. You could start by removing or changing things in your plan that are causing it to be bloated, like fixture and furniture symbols, detailed moldings/casings, etc. You could also try working with more layers turned off or working in floor cameras rather then full cameras to speed things up. I assume that you don't have multiple camera views open at the same time which might also slow things down. As for the best hardware to speed up building the 3D model, I think the number of cores your machine has can also make a big difference (not just CPU speed and amount of memory).
  18. Some of that information can be encoded into the cabinet label. If you show the label column in the schedule, it should use default labels to distinguish between a drawer bank and standard drawer over door cabinet. As far as customizing the schedule, you can modify the labels as needed. I think most people probably also include information in the comments section. You can open up the "components" dialog for any cabinet and specify any custom notes in the comment section which would then show up in the cabinet schedule.
  19. Chief does not create 3D plinth blocks automatically and you have to manually place them if you want them to show up in camera views. As for the base molding not bumping into the door casing or plinth block, the easiest way to handle this is to convert the hallway base molding into a manual molding polyline using the "make room molding polyline" tool. Then just edit out the edges you don't want.
  20. "I am getting the same error also.I don't even have that directory on my PCU I am getting it when exporting a model to several different options, dwg, dae, 3ds, stl, ect." That may be the same generic error message but that is definitely not the same problem. A crash when launching the program is probably an install or system problem. A crash exporting a model is probably a problem with the model. Post your plan and see if someone else has the same problem. Or start deleting things from the model until it doesn't crash showing you where the problem is. Or contact tech support.
  21. "The other possibility is that each schedule has both Doors and Windows included." How? I know you can show glass sliding doors in the window schedule. You can also control where a mulled unit goes if it has a door. I don't know of any other way to make doors show up in the window schedule or vice versa. Is there some other trick you know about?
  22. Android is not Windows. If you want a tablet that will run Chief, you should buy a Surface.
  23. "You cannot import the 3D TERRAIN. All you can do is import the CAD LINES that represent topo lines and then you must trace those lines and assign an elevation to them." There are at least two ways to import 3D terrain data. You can import 3D terrain data using the "Import Terrain Data" tool. The data has to be stored in a text file with X,Y,Z coordinates and a bunch of different formats are supported. You can also import 3D data using the "Import Drawing" tool. If your DWG/DXF file has elevation lines with height info, you can convert them directly into Chief's elevation lines keeping all of the heights. You have to be sure to use the "Convert Selected Layers" drop down list to convert the data into Elevation Data. Using this method, you don't need to trace over the lines or type in your own heights. Be warned though, if the file you are importing has a lot of elevation lines, this could really slow down Chief and you may want to trace over them using elevation splines instead.
  24. If you are doing all that to offset a line, you are doing it the hard way. Try dragging the move handle and then hitting the tab key.
