Client needs a bid for new build after fire
Electromen replied to DC7Designs's topic in General Q & A
Normally, these are not competitive bids, as when lowest bid wins. The bank usually wants a bid/ proposal for budget purposes. Include all of your expected costs and add some for unforeseen changes. In the Proposal, describe what's included but more importantly, spell out what is NOT included. -
The more common name is Gooseneck Warehouse light. You may want to rename it for future use.

Cannot Ray Trace on Mac... looking for help
Electromen replied to acquavella's topic in General Q & A
I agree with others than the problem is in the application or application support files. With my new Mac Pro, I did a fresh install of CA, then I imported my old User Library. Then I moved Templates from the old drive to the new computer. I did not Migrate any applications from the old computer, they all were installed fresh. Use David's advice, trash the CA app, run "cleanmymac" and install CA. -
Thanks for all your help so far. Here's a view from inside

Thank you, That's kind of what I had in mind. There is a Mezzanine level but CA can handle that.

I'm wiring a 25' x 75' steel building. The outside walls are supported by tapered steel beams 25' on center with horizontal Zee Girts and metal sheeting. The roof is Zee Purlins and metal sheeting. Is there a way to draw this in CA?

I'm on a Mac. I have all the data files and documents/drawings on iCloud.

Chief can't do what they require. I get them done free by the local lighting supplier.

What did you use to Calibrate the monitor? The ICC is the International Color Consortium. Monitors and Printers can be calibrated to an ICC Profile. The prints and monitor will match, they'll also match everyone else in the world that have Profiled devices. You can hold the print up to the monitor and see that it is accurate. If you're using a Digital Camera, the camera can also have an ICC Profile. One of the best devices to Profile both monitor and printer is the XRite i1Studio That is what I use. After the monitor is Profiled, you use the same device to Profile the printer. Each paper will have it's own custom profile and must be selected in the print driver. TV's & scanners can also be Profiled. This works best in photography software like Photoshop or Lightroom. The problem with CA and color is how the lighting and reflective materials affect the walls and materials. I'm not sure that can be turned off.

I'm an electrical contractor. I use CA to design the electrical layout. I've never dimensioned the electrical. Plumbing, HVAC, and framing change the placement your best layouts. The symbols show the desired location but the customer and I know it will change on some items.

The Codec on my Mac for X10 is H.264 just like it has been in the past. H.264 is a standard HD compression widely used.

I'm an electrical contractor and use CA specifically for electrical drawings. I've been asking for better control and more layers since '97. Very little has changed since then.

Flooring Quantities Include Area Under Cabinets
Electromen replied to craboulas's topic in General Q & A
If you don't have flooring under the cabinets, how would you ever get the dishwasher to slide out? -

I switched to Mac about 12 years ago. The reason was, the Apple OS was not vulnerable to viruses and malware. As far as CA goes, it's stable on both platforms and the files are interchangeable. I other words, you can start a project on one and open it on the other OS. If this is more of a decision of Windows vs Mac, that discussion can go gone forever. Obviously, Mac is more expensive, but in the past, it's my experience that they lasted much longer. I like Macs backup system. Time Machine is automatic and can go back, hours, days, and months to restore files.

Thanks Chris, I got it working

I'd like to be able to send a Plan to the Layout and control the Layers shown. In other words, Send each floor to the Layout with all layers shown. Then have a page in the Layout that has no dimensions, just electrical. Right now I can send a floor to the layout with Electrical only, but then when turn on layers in the Plan, the Layout also changes. I'd like to have several Layout pages with only certain layers turned on.

I've been using a Wacom Tablet and Pen for about eight years.

My MacPro has dual AMD D500 video cards with 3GB of VRAM on each one. CA only recognizes one card. It would be nice to take advantage of both cards.

I think the results are decent. Considering this took no time at all, maybe 2 seconds, it beats Ray Trace by an hour. RT may have better resolution, but I think this is going to be my new standard in presentations.
-
Thank you, that was very helpful. I've changed my defaults for my main template. If I can perfect it, it will save hours of RT.

Thanks, I found it under 3D > Rendering Techniques. I added that Icon to my Toolbar. So All I do is point the camera and Select PBR? It changes immediately, there is no wait time. Is that all I do?
