lbuttery replied to duckbill4375's topic in General Q & A
I thought I read that X6 allowed for two main layers ??? Lew -
Rob: thanks for the clarification Lew
-
Rob: it would be best to discuss with CA but the little I know - I think the rent to own is just that a commitment to buy the software over time - not just temporary usage let us know what you find out Lew

Stairs: Lower Section Wider Than Upper Section
lbuttery replied to wnschoen's topic in General Q & A
sorry to disagree work-arounds when first discovered can be very elegant and very useful but their very creation is an indication that the software needs "improvement" ESPECIALLY, when it is for common items that the software should already have features for chimneys is a prime example they have been around for thousands of years the fact that Chief needs work-arounds to create chimneys is mind-boggling as I've stated many, many times before workarounds are like fish or house guests after about three releases they begin to "stink" Lew -
this is Chief 101 I would be quessing as to what you are doing "wrong" any attempt to advise would be the same as the following suggestions: watch some of the SSA videos or Scott's videos on Youtube or read the help articles on CA's website or the manual after that if you are still having issues then posts your steps and maybe screen captures showing what you are doing then someone may be able to advise Lew

Joey: some say they like the room wizard but I have never been impressed by it the few times I tried it Lew

I f you put all your pdf's in the plan file, then it always knows where it is, and you don't need "save in plan" Perry: In theory, nice idea reality is "things go bump in the night" folders get moved within HD's or to other HD's send the layout or plan to another chiefer and invariably something will be missing etc etc etc I've been bit by this too many times to count my partner has been bit by it also - so its not just me.... there is NO reason that CA can't make this a default or preferences setting Lew
-
You bet I just checked off the 'save to plan' box this time I have been asking for almost a decade now a preferences setting where we can select "save in plan" to always happen in fact, I think this should be the OOB default setting I have had missing files happen a "zillion" times especially when sending the layout to my partner CA's attitude so far has been "oh well, deal with it" I think that once you do that, you can't get rid of it in that plan or layout Tommy: yes, they can be deleted Lew

Thumbnail Image...is That Supposed To Be A Folder Icon? I Can't See It?
lbuttery replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
in Windows Explorer select "change your view" dropdown and choose "extra large icons" or other size as desired I don't like the thumbnail clutter so I keep them turned off If you use Chief's plan database they could be handy Lew -
or the new "room divider" tool Lew
-
Joey: just draw it as one large building with lots of rooms the party walls can be done as double walls with an air gap between them just like they are done in real life Lew
-
Perry: if you read my reply again I didn't mention you by name I also didn't mention any PDF software by name but said "standalone" I was providing the OP with more info about using a broader based PDF creator rather than one solely dedicated to Chief I did mention PDF995 above when Tommy stated that he had issues to state that I have never had those issues but I never said PDF995 was the best if you find my zillion other replies when PDF questions arise you will find that I have never said PDF995 was the best and usually mention two or three other creators by names as alternatives BTW: it's been my impression that you are the "dogmatic" one who insists that your way is the only way I usually keep it generic and offer alternatives Lew
-
While Chief's built-in PDF tool may work for chief I prefer a stand-alone tool as I create PDF's while surfing the web and for Excel and Word it's also handy as a virtual printer when working with a laptop without a printer it's also handy for creating archival copies of documents for backups and for emailing Lew
-
Doing it Lew's way would not help me for permitting Tommy: yep, meant for visual verification Lew
-
I've never had that problem with PDF995 been using it since 2004 Lew
-
Timmy: I don't think so one method I use to check the building envelope for height restriction' is to place walls around the lot perimeter and set them to transparent set this "room to have a ceiling of 30' but no roof then take a 3d view and rotate around and see any terrain pokes thru see post #10 in this thread: http://www.chieftalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1866&d=1118600499 Lew

Modern Glass And Steel Garage Door--Any Symbols Out There?
lbuttery replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
later than Version 10 I believe it was ver X2 that introduced .CALIBZ files I agree that CA should buy the rights to the Garage Door Wizard and build it into Chief Lew
