Kevin: there is no perfect software there is some feature "missing" from any software you care to look at I have chewed on CA for almost a decade about adding "industry standard" BIM to Chief no joy that's doesn't mean that there hasn't been any improvements in Chief if BIM was "critical" to my workflow I would have had to move to some other software I want it because it will help make Chief the 800-lb Gorilla in the industry same as I want a full implementation of Ruby with a macro recording feature no joy there either yet, every release is packed with other goodies Lew

not sure why, but if Chief can see them then they are on your PC somewhere ver 9.5 allowed you to set the various paths for where Chief's components could be found I think it was in preferences it just occurred to me that maybe you have your windows folder settings set to "hide" some file types ??? you may need to contact a PC tech support vendor to see why windows can't find the files that Chief can see this doesn't sound like a Chief issue Lew

just guessing ... maybe the "moveable opening" setting ??? Lew -
Chief, in many ways has not changed in 10 years...... few more bells and whistles but very little actual improvements in the base software Kevin: sorry, but this is not even close to being true I have used Chief for a decade since ver 9.5 and there have been huge improvements with each release I for one, have posted many a suggestion/complaint about various features that I would like to see in Chief some have come and many have not however, I'm not the only user and others have different needs bottom line - Chief grows better with each and every release and yet it will never be perfect if you can't see the growth then either you are not looking or Chief just can't meet your needs Lew

Dennis: so half walls can't do rail caps ??? it was suppose to be the same as the "old" method ??? Lew
-

-
Matt: not sure what you mean by "suppress" if I understand your question ??? why not set your dim defaults to use wall surfaces ??? Lew
-
I usually make half walls from solid railing walls. THen set the height in the DBX for railing Dennis: this was the "old" way before Chief got the half wall tool a few versions ago The half wall tool does the same thing - just saves a few steps CA created the half wall tool because everyone (myself included) kept complaining about all the extra steps Lew

Chief uses a different method for drawing walls and it works very well watch some of the training videos and once you understand the method it will be "easy" yes, you can create your own library of items you can copy the ones provided for Chief and modify them and save them in the user library you can import from vendors and from the google warehouse you can make your own in Chief or other software like Sketchup Lew

I name as follows: 123_ELM_LBX6.plan 123_ELM_LBX6.layout then my backups are: 123_ELM_141108_1315_LBX6.plan 123_ELM_141108_1315_LBX6.layout I do a "save as" for the backup name first then do a "save as" for the primary name I use LB as my initials to distinquish from when my partner works on the plan Lew

Rich: nice "compound" with all the fencing study your walk flows and ensure you have easy access to various areas without having to "go the long way" just to get there is there access for large trucks - say a tree cutter to get to most sections of the site ? I have 2/3 acre and have a 12' wide double gate at the front for large vehicles been here 2 years and so far had a cement mixer for an addition and a tree truck also had my pre-built shed delivered and dropped on site Lew
