  1. Chief CAN do a cut list Glenn: hmmm, not that I ever heard of ??? if it can, its too late for my needs anyways Lew
  2. to paraphrase Tina Turner in the start of Proud Mary "we don't do nice and easy".... Lew
  3. this has been suggested for the entire decade that I have been using chief (ver 9.5) I wouldn't count on it happening any time soon Lew
  4. if the Th's are attached I would do them as one large building If they are detached I would do them in separate plans then create symbols and then place the symbols in a master plan Lew
  5. I donated my 9.5 - 10, X1 locks for free $5 to cover cost of mailing it is a violation of the license to "sell" prior versions if they have been upgraded Lew
  6. I'm surprised CA even has an X1 key and that they are only asking $295 usually they would require you to upgrade to X7 I have already given my X1 key out but maybe someone else has one that they are no longer using the donor should verify with CA that you have a valid license before sending Lew
  7. You might look into exporting a DWG drawing into Chief and using the "CAD to Walls" tool. Probably will need some cleanup, but might save a little time if everything is set up properly If anyone has had success with the CTW feature please post the cad and the Chief plan and maybe what you had to do to cleanup I've been on this forum for a decade and have never heard of anyone touting that CTW works the recommendation has been to not bother and just scale the image and do a trace over I tried one recently and it was a complete failure I sent the .DWG to tech support and they couldn't do it either too many issues with the .DWG Lew
  8. Robert: I always did a search first to verify that there were prior threads Lew
  9. 1. a few years back I would suggest that the poster do a search for prior threads I would only do this when I knew there were prior threads I was chided for doing this - so I stopped Lew
  10. It is far easier to start with someone local with knowledge of your areas construction techniques rather than someone who doesn't know your local codes or construction techniques agreed.... but as a professional I would research the local codes and talk to the permit office and talk to the builder and even try to get the builder to send a prior permit set so that I could create a set similar I found that even in the same county where I did live that the various builders all used different methods and wanted/needed different info on the plans and the nearby counties would want different info and in the DC metro area I did projects in DC,MD,VA and 8 counties across those states I never charged the clients for this learning process since as a professional it was up to me to know/learn this info so if you can't find someone local don't be afraid of using "outsiders" Lew
  11. Graeme: just about all that post on this forum for the last decade that I have been here Lew
  12. contact CA's customer service they do offer a rent to own package Lew
  13. I never print from plan didn't like the results back in ver 9.5 and other versions since so I don't even try now send to layout then create PDF then to printer as needed Lew
  14. you need to provide more info what ver of Chief ? PC or Mac ? screen captures of the dbx's etc maybe post the .plan or .layout so others can try you should also contact CA's tech support Lew
  15. it is recommended to print to PDF first many advantages to do so Lew
  16. Yusef: great, a solution that uses stair parts only would be genius CA needs to document this in the manual and with videos Lew
  17. Glenn: maybe not ??? I remember doing a project way back with ver 9 .5 or 10 that had lots of areas that were lower than 6'8" and Chief was placing the lines I remember adding polyline solids to the lower height areas so that the client could see on the floor plan where usable space was versus unusable space but maybe that is not what the OP is experiencing ??? Lew
  18. Why make the tread out of a countertop? Scott: you asked earlier if Yusef's solution was Genius or a workaround using non-stair parts makes it a work-around Lew
  19. since I'm the cautious type I would let Chief keep the libraries where they are then I would manually copy them to the Dropbox folder perhaps daily at the start or end of a work session Lew
  20. when the roof impacts ceiling height Chief draws the beam lines In a real house this is where you would bump your head walking around if you don't want them at all raise the roof until they go away Lew
  21. well you are trying to open an archived plan, so I assume your original plan version is having an issue also ? have you tried a search for other versions of the plan ? you could post the plan here to see if others have the same issue ? Lew
  22. you will probably need to contact CA's tech support on Monday Lew
  23. Bill: download it and try it ... CA hasn't said anything that I know of Lew
  24. I did renew my SSA two days AFTER being able to download and install X7 beta with an expiration date of Feb 1 Best to discuss with CA's customer service Lew
  25. I recommend using lot lines nested inside the terrain perimeter to represent the lot I like my TP to be larger than the lot to allow for roads, sidewalks, other buidlings etc also don't like seeing the ends of the universe when doing renders/rays Lew
