  1. Lew, why not try using a more intelligent architectural analysis with lots of discourse, which mostly supports it Richard: both of the articles say the same thing ??? one is just longer than the other Lew
  2. another interesting read: http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/the-worlds-ugliest-buildings Lew
  3. another interesting read http://www.treehugger.com/green-architecture/you-can-get-sued-ugly.html Lew
  4. http://www.traditional-building.com/Previous-Issues-14/AugustForum14.html An interesting read Lew
  5. Are you honestly comparing FLW and Sullivan to DIY? somewhat .... as far as the "ESTABLISHMENT" was concerned they were school drop-outs who were creating "unconventional" nee ""ugly" architecture again, I have seen some really HORRIBLE" designs by trained architects again, I do recommend clients seek architects especially if they can afford them or want that level of service I use to belong to the AIA as an associate member they would hold monthly "how to work with an architect" seminars for home-owners I attended a few and the architect was emphatic that he would NOT look at any plans they brought as it would stifle his creativity he would also not do any projects under $X as it wasn't worth his time so what is a homeowner going to do - but seek out a DIY designer Lew
  6. Larry: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Marley-Fusion-32-in-x-80-in-Light-Wood-Folding-Door-PRFUS3280LW/202956965?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cBase&gclid=CjwKEAiAxNilBRD88r2azcqB2zsSJABy2B96B3opQoeyuGe9d8WTdJHJZ_N2TpMjHzPtYpRkopnCMhoC9MLw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Lew
  7. Dennis: yes, when Phoebe was introduced in X3 (I think) there was an issue with glass and light no idea if this is causing your problem you may want to discuss with tech support Lew
  8. Richard: yes, I did a few historical projects in Old Town Georgetown in DC so I will amend to add design review boards satisfaction also our first historic project won a "honorable mention" award due to the modern kitchen conforming to the historic nature of the building we NEVER had a project permit rejected they were all accepted on the first submission Lew
  9. NOTE: TO FUTURE READERS Richard has deleted most of his postings in this thread thus, a lot of responses, especially mine, will seem disjointed and unconnected perhaps the moderator should just delete this entire thread since a lot of it doesn't make sense anymore ??? oh wow, I have to say I agree with Perry about the statement that it is "illegal" for non-architects to do design they can not state they are architects but in many, many jurisdictions they can do design this has been discussed/debated "ad naseum" on this forum for the entire decade that I have been here I really don't want re-hash it again - just feel the need to counter the "scare" yet, I also agree with Johnny (et al.) that an architect should be able to do better design than a DIY yet, a DIY might be able to do a decent design look at FLW and Sullivan and others who never got a degree and did designs against the "norm" of their times furthermore I have seen designs by architects that are a horror show yes, that is my opinion and I could post samples but it is still my opinion I have recommended to clients that they should consult with an architect if they indicated that wanted more than my partner could offer with his designs knowing what the client wants and is willing to pay for helps in deciding this bottom line, it is a good design if the client likes it the architects that see it may have a different opinion but the clients opinion is the only one that really counts Lew
  10. Is this a proven approach? Julie: yes, it is you can even work via the internet Lew
  11. I think there is a setting in defaults or preferences to allow reflections in a render Lew
  12. I find it best NOT to set the TP the same as the lot lines having a larger TP gives you flexibility in showing roads/sidewalks and other buildings I also don't like see the "ends of the universe" when taking renders and rays Lew
  13. There's an organizational theory that states you can't make people feel OK about a detriment by providing a benefit to "cancel it out". You actually have to deal with the detriment and fix it or they won't feel good about your product no matter how many new features you give them and not fix the issues that are making them unhappy. Well said, too many are willing to accept the "unacceptable" Chief is wonderful - can't imagine using anything else but it can be frustrating with all the "workarounds" that stay around ... Lew
  14. yes, until X2 or X3 Chief used POV then they built their own called Phoebe Lew
  15. maybe it is stored in a different folder ??? ver 9.5 and earlier (maybe even ver 10 ???) had a separate file for each floor named as .PL0 and .PL1 and .PL2 etc the were also backups such as .PB0 etc try a windows explorer search on .PL2 and see if the file is somewhere if not ??? Lew
  16. CA has made this confusing and many HD users end-up here on Chieftalk Lew
  17. HD PRO has manual roofs and stairs and cabinets and framing etc HD PRO users can benefit from posting/following the Chieftalk forum Lew
  18. you should re-post in the Q&A section the seeking services section is for requesting help for hire you may also want to post on the Hometalk forum which is dedicated to HD users HD PRO users can also benefit from following/posting on Chieftalk Lew
  19. I would opt for the 17" screen especially if you are doing client presentations on it but I also bought a hand sized LCD projector that does a great job so you could go with the 15" screen http://www.aaxatech.com/products/p3_pico_projector.htm Lew
  20. well, I don't have roof skills but he did show us an insane asylum circa 1890's with a massive set of roofs and turrets etc etc etc and it was all done with auto roofs if you check CA's tutorials 24+ roof styles can be done via auto-roofs some of them fairly complicated I would never say that any roof can be auto only but I think auto-roofs are discredited too much Lew
  21. I thought 3d roof editing came in X1 ??? so far back hard to remember ... Lew
  22. did you mean Chief 9.5 ??? not sure there was a 9.3 ??? either way that was 8 versions ago more than a decade ago probably not going to get a lot of responses here if you post the plan, you might get better replies than just guesses Lew
  23. the HD vid's could be good to watch as the HD products (except PRO) can only do auto-roofs there are 24+ roof styles that can be done with the auto-roofs my intermediate Chief instructor claimed that "any" roof could be done auto CA recommends starting with auto then switch to manual if needed Lew
  24. Is there any kind of work around for this? maybe save as .DWG and then start over software is way too complicated to allow for backward compatibility Lew
  25. Rob: no idea.... if nothing comes up over the weekend you may want to contact CA's tech support but if you don't have SSA active - there will be a charge Lew
