  1. if you have the .PLAN file a chiefer can open/edit the plan Lew
  2. Joe: see post #9 What happens if your TV and video source have different resolutions? Lew
  3. are you printing to PDF first or to printer first ? It is recommended to use PDF - always many, many benefits to doing so I use PDF995 that used to be bundled with Chief it is a free download there are many other free PDF creators Lew
  4. Doug: I will call on Monday thanks Lew
  5. Ray: try these "articles" basically your source and tv resolutions need to be the same or that the aspect ratios are the same the aspect ratios (4:3 for 800×600 and 16:9 for 1366×768) are different – so not only will the image be enlarged, the image will be distorted. What Happens When You Use a Non-Native Resolution Now, imagine that your computer’s video card sends an 800×600 image to a 1366×768 LCD — you’ll see that the 800×600 image doesn’t evenly correspond to the number of pixels in the LCD. To produce an image smaller than its native resolution, the display would still be using 1366×768 pixels – so the display must interpolate (scale) the image to be larger and fill the screen. In the example here, the aspect ratios (4:3 for 800×600 and 16:9 for 1366×768) are different – so not only will the image be enlarged, the image will be distorted. This is similar to enlarging an image in an image-editing program – you’ll lose clarity and, if the image is a different aspect ratio, it will appear distorted. For example, here I’ve taken a screenshot of How-To Geek at 800×600 and enlarged it to 1366×768 (I then shrunk it, maintaining the aspect ratio, so it would fit this article.) As you can see, the image is blurry from being enlarged and distorted from being widened. This is what your LCD does when you use a non-native resolution. ************************************************************************************************************************** What happens if your TV and video source have different resolutions? This scenario actually happens all the time, and fortunately with today's HDTVs, you don't really need to worry about it. Whether the resolution of your video source material is low (VHS), medium (DVD), or high (HDTV), a fixed-pixel TV will always automatically convert or scale the video signal to fit the screen's native resolution. Scaling lower-quality signals to fit a TV's higher-resolution screen is often called upconversion. Upconversion works great with a good source like DVD, but it can't make snowy analog antenna reception or a noisy cable picture look flawlessly crisp and clear. Similarly, if the incoming source has more pixels than the screen's native resolution, the video signal has to be "downconverted." It's like trying to pour 10 pounds of sugar into a 5-pound bag: you have to throw away some detail to fit the image on the screen. That's one of the reasons 1080p TVs are so popular — they can display every pixel of every available high-def resolution, so they never have to throw any detail out. But if you don't get a 1080p TV, don't worry — downconverted video can still look great. The best example is 1080i HD broadcasts that are downconverted to be viewed on 768p TVs. Lew
  6. are using a resolution that maintains the aspect ratio of the native resolution ? Lew
  7. Ray: how close to the 40" are you ??? probably should be min 6' probably more you will fry your eyeballs otherwise Lew
  8. Ray: I don't understand I have a 37" tv/monitor and floor plans and everything else look great and I have my resolution set at 720P due to my eyes Lew
  9. Mick: yep, so I'll just stay with X6 Lew
  10. I find it interesting that people believe that with an SSA, they have some sort of "right" to an unreleased beta version, even if only temporary Richard: yep, this is exactly what I believe Scott: not asking for special privileges - just what I believe SSA was suppose to include I have tons of money, I could renew without even thinking about it I've spent over $10,000 so far on my dog and will spend more if it saves his life It's the principle.... Lew
  11. I remember that when I started with Chief ver 9.5 that tech support was for LIFE then with X1 (I think) it was changed to "life of the product" then SSA came CA is very capable of changing policy whenever they feel like it Lew
  12. Todd: I believe it was Wendy Welton who recommends copying that section of the plan using Edit area tool into a new plan, then build the roof then using edit area tool paste back into original plan using hold position when pasting back have only the roof layers on for years I have advocated that we be able to draw an edit area marquee and then the auto-roof gen would work on that area only Lew
  13. maybe use "save in plan" for each image ??? Lew
  14. It is unfortunate that the timing of this release caught up with you this time around Doug: that is the point with an active SSA there should be no "caught" as Mick stated: the Beta would encourage an upgrade Lew
  15. X7 is not yet a released product yep, and I guess I won't be able to see it then I received a reply from CA and the "official" release date is Mar 5 I replied back that I found this new policy "unacceptable" and that it was time for me to say BYE Lew
  16. Ray: with an active SSA we are "suppose" to get anything CA releases so I should have 11 days of X7 beta - more if I renew when the official releases came out in the past the beta licenses were set to terminate with the software locks, CA has total control how long the software can be used I don't like this "shifting sands" policies This is one reason why I always get the hardware lock I can continue to use X6 and CA can never stop me .... Lew
  17. Rich: when a vendor ticks me off - I rarely go back I was with Directv for 15 years thru 4 houses and switched to Time-Warner when Directiv told me the issue at my new house was un-grounded outlets it was a BS reply for "We don't know what the issue is" I've been gone since Dec 2012 when I receive their "please come back" coupons they go right in the trash the majority of Chiefers have a Feb 1 renewal date so we should have had 11 days of access to X7 beta with the software locks CA can kill the license anytime they want Lew
  18. Hmmm, this is what CA states on their website: Receive new releases, updates and upgrades at no charge. All software is distributed electronically as a download service. An optional Backup DVD is available. Academic network licenses — a fee may be incurred if you do not exchange your hardware lock key. In order to access updates and upgrades your licensed product must be registered. Where is the March 15 cutoff being posted ??? Lew
  19. You wont miss anything that is in X7 or should I say X6.5 Graeme: I agree with the X6.5 from what I can see so far that's one reason why I delayed renewing SSA if the upgrade lacks WOW then ??? If I were still in business I would renew regardless of 6.5 or CA's annoying policy but for my needs now X6 will do me fine Lew
  20. Alan: my dog has been having seizures and now at vets for mobility issues I have cancer and heart issues renewing SSA has NOT been a priority besides I shouldn't have to renew until Jan 31 If CA is going with March 15 then they have just lost a customer being pissy - your damn right I am Lew
  21. Ray: If that is the case - I am NOT happy I have been a STRONG supporter of SSA since it was introduced I fully planned to renew before Feb 1 If CA is taking this stance then I will NOT renew I'm barely using Chief as it is I have plans to continue using it for my preservation projects but I can do so just as easy with X6 When SSA came out just about everyone had a Feb 1 date so this applies to many, many users Lew
  22. SSA is active to Feb 1 I should be able to get the beta now and if I don't renew SSA then it should cease to work I plan to renew SSA - just as I have always done been busy with a dog having seizures and my own surgeries etc if X7 goes live before Feb 1 I should get it as part of SSA Lew
  23. I haven't heard from them contacted them late in the day should know by tomorrow Lew
  24. Hmmm, X7's not in my digital locker my SSA is still active ??? I called customer service... Lew
  25. Scott: "work-around" implies a temporary solution something to be used until a permanent solution arrives if Yusef's method is now "THE" method for doing spiral stairs and it doesn't use "weird" stuff like cabinet or roofs etc then it would be a creative solution a solution that CA should then document in the manual and create an SSA video for etc Lew
