Need Help With Roof Design In Home Designer Pro
lbuttery replied to contractmedical's topic in General Q & A
Mick: HD PRO does have manual roof tools so while the OP should follow Hometalk PRO users can benefit from following Chieftalk as well and can use advice from Chiefers (for the most part) Lew -
I think collar ties is the concept here BTW: my architect spec'd a very large/heavy ridge beam for my addition just before I bought all the material my partner Joe pointed out that the collar ties should be sufficient went back to architect and WHOOPS she had missed them on the plan I bought Joe a nice crab dinner at Red Lobster Lew

anno-sets are a major convenience but they are not mandatory for using Chief "everything" can be done manually as it was before they were introduced they just make the tasks easier once setup start with the OOB anno-sets and then edit or add as needed Lew
-
Current cad layer existed prior to anno-sets so there may be a way to use it without anno-sets but I'm not versed in anno-sets to say how function may have been changed when anno-sets were added ??? Lew

contact David Potter he post on this forum and on the hometalk forum Lew

Ca Is Showing Mistakes That The Architect Didn't See In Revit
lbuttery replied to Electromen's topic in General Q & A
too late at this point .... In the future, follow the advice given above Lew -
I've been advocating for a 2nd license meter system we buy a block of time and when that time is almost gone we buy another block Lew

So, garbage in - garbage out is the conclusion. Looks like the defaults on most things must be prepared properly to get an accurate material list. Even then "work around's" usually defeat the ML accuracy The ML has been this way since I started with ver 9.5 IF - you take the time/effort some have had success most would rather not bother Lew
-
I agree with Jay on the manual I started with ver 9.5 and soon after ver 10 came I went thru the manual excessively and prepped for a presentation at a remodelers assoc I belonged to soon after I took the Intermediate class and the instructor was not versed on ver 10 yet within half a day every time there was a question that he couldn't answer he turned to me did that make me an expert - hell no while I knew what was what (for that moment in time) I still couldn't do roofs or terrain or other complex tasks I let my partner handle those and still do I decided how far up the learning curve I was going and that was it (for the most part) I read then and now every post on this forum did this for a decade I even went back a year prior and skimmed all those posts too this forum offers a fantastic learning opp If it wasn't for my health issues I think I may have even learned roofs and terrain Lew

I would recommend modeling your house or a family/friends house that way you can physically check/re-check until you "get it right" watching videos in isolation would just melt my brain Lew

This Is Big News In The Future Of Bim/cad As We Know It.
lbuttery replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
Todd: given the resistance I've received over the last decade whenever the BIM issue was raised by CA and many of the users on this forum I seriously doubt if this will have any effect on the Chief community Lew -
Mick: I never see the word "download" ??? BUT, I found the issue and solution ... see attached all I was seeing was the white box and the library UNTIL I moved the cursor off the white box then the menu bar above the white box is displayed using the down arrow allows for downloading thanks for helping Lew
-
Mick: not sure about popup blocker etc I don't get a warning or anything I see the listing and all I can do is click on it and that just expands the list ??? Lew

Can Anyone Tell Me Where My Ceiling Has Gone?
lbuttery replied to ladycoralie's topic in General Q & A
just for the record CA from day1 generally puts the basement and foundation on floor 0 this was probably because Chief had a 10 floor limit + floor0 when I started with ver 9.5 and it may have been a 3 floor limit before that with ver 10 that was changed to 99 floors I think CA still puts basement on floor 0 but I've seen many postings over the last decade that it doesn't need to and some that advocate that it never should be there Lew -
Mick: I tried to download - couldn't find how to do that thanks for the posting of the file Yusef: thanks again Lew
-
You don't need to be a customer .... this forum is for users so the replies you get while informative - are not the "horse's mouth" Lew
-
you may want to call CA's customer service to discuss your needs and the issues you are finding they may have solutions/tips etc Lew
-
Yusef: how do we save the library ??? I can select it and expand it but can't see how to save it ??? thanks for the contribution Lew
-
I also chareg a large revision fee Yep Lew

my clients and trades liked having 81/2 x 11 for quick reference easy carry around but they also wanted 1/4" sets for verification most of our remodel plans were on 11 x 17 or 18 x 24 new homes or bigger projects were 24 x 36 never had to do 36 x 48 but worked with some and they are a PITA trying to lay them some where or keeping them unrolled Lew
