  1. there have been two schools on this issue some recommend using floor 0 for basement and foundation some recommend using floor 0 for foundation and floor 1 for basement each has pros and cons and over the last decade the "debate" has never been "settled" CA's videos and such usually show floor0 having both foundation and basement others will chime in with their solutions/suggestions Lew
  2. back around 2007 we did a project in CO from VA we used google earth to show how the house would sit amongst the mountains and valleys and the views from the various windows we messed with it a few times after that but so much has changed since then I'm hoping to use to show the views from my ancestors lighthouse tower that was at the brink of Niagara Falls from 1833-1873 and the tourist elevator at the Niagara Whirlpool from 1869-1901 Lew
  3. Is there any way that this could be corrected with CA? Yes, post a suggestion in the suggestions section of the forum CA will then add it to their database of requests when it will be "fixed" depends on priorities Lew
  4. Glenn: I don't get your "irony" reference ??? I'm asking serious questions about the definition of "work-around" but all I get in reply is "dancing" oh well, as a systems analyst/programmer having started in 1976 and working for over a dozen major corps around the DC beltway I am quite familiar with the usage and definition of a "work-around" some will deny it but Chief requires many "work-arounds" to get the job done as it will be forever no software can be "perfect" nor can it be all things to all users users find "work-arounds" they get reported to CA then CA decides whether to implement that "work-around" as a feature or "fix" and the next cycle begins Lew
  5. Perry: I was hoping to see an example of what you would consider a workaround or are you taking the position that there are no workarounds in chief none needed to complete a plan and condocs ??? Lew
  6. I reckon that Chief should have a checkbox for "No Workarounds" Glenn: then very few projects could ever be completed as they almost always require workarounds to be used I venture that it is impossible to create a full model with condocs and not use workarounds Lew
  7. ok, just curious what would be a work-around then ??? Lew
  8. Not a workaround when it's the only way what ??? that is the definition of a workaround having to do "steps" because there is no other way until there is a way Lew
  9. but if you did want to check them out or whatever ??? just saying it would be nice to be able to have multiple layouts open at the same time Lew
  10. unfortunately Chief only allows for one layout to be open at the same time so with two layouts if would require closing one before opening the other perhaps if a 2nd instance of chief was running then each instance could have one of the layouts open ??? hoping someday that Chief can have multiple layouts open at the same time Lew
  11. since HD PRO has the same foundation tools as Chief perhaps a Chiefer might be able to assist Lew
  12. Todd: Once a plan is upgraded to X7, it can't be worked on in X6 unless you go back to the X6 version backup Lew
  13. Anything created in Chief Architect (this forum) would not be usable in the Home Designer App .plans can be shared between HD products the Chief plan needs to have the "edit flag ..." set if the Chief plan uses features that the HD product doesn't have that area would be read only - no edits allowed Lew
  14. for the record Chief can read/edit HD PRO plans and HD PRO can read/edit Chief plans if the edit flag is set by chief so collaboration is doable Lew
  15. caution some clients get nervous about someone connecting to their electronics etc it's better to take a projector Lew
  16. your X6 lock should work just fine I have used my old locks with new and no issues however, CA could have changed things so if you have issues contact CA's customer service on Monday to discuss Lew
  17. sounds like a someone I would NOT want to work with Lew
  18. go to digital locker and activate Lew
  19. also check out the Hometalk forum for advice there as it is dedicated to the HD product line HD PRO users can benefit from following the Chieftalk forum also Lew
  20. if you buy an HD product you will probably want to follow the Hometalk forum HD PRO users can benefit from following the Chieftalk forum but the other HD products are too limited in their features Lew
  21. If you model with the defaults set up like you want to build the structure Joey: you stated this in a earlier post so then I posted yesterday: if you set the defaults for an 1885 house then later need to remodel a 1955 house how does that work ??? each and every remodel job is "different" I'm not saying it can't be done I'm asking if it can be done If yes, is it worth doing ??? I get about the layers showing or not showing in the ML Lew
  22. Sam: have checked out Planswift as a companion to Chief ??? Lew
  23. Mick: have you checked out Planswift ? Lew
  24. if you set the defaults for an 1885 house then later need to remodel a 1955 house how does that work ??? each and every remodel job is "different" I'm not saying it can't be done I'm asking if it can be done If yes, is it worth doing ??? Lew
  25. Personally, I think this should be corrected with an update in X6 as well. X6, to me, is not a completed version, without this correction...........or remove the Materials List entirely. This update should be available to all X6 users, whether current with their SSA, or not. Sam: This will never happen X7 is the "update" for X6 not saying it is right - just what CA does and will continue doing Personally, I think CA is right, they can't keep applying "fixes" to an older version if you have SSA you get the latest version with all the "fixes" that are included X7 is going "official" soon so if you send this as a "bug" it may be "fixed" in an "update" to X7 then again - maybe not ....
