  1. Dermot: .plan file associations was never an issue before my partner and I use to switch among the versions all the time as we had clients that were using the older versions and we had to work with the same versions as them we would have .plan associated with the latest version but we could always work on the earlier versions with no issues sounds like something is "broke" with X8 Lew
  2. I keep all my plans in a separate folder for each project I add the ver id to the file name to keep X6 and X7 and X8 separate if I should work on the same project with different versions also for future reference I know what ver the plan belongs to naming convention: 123_OAK_160125_1310_LBX7.plan LB = my initials, JK would be my partner = that way we know we last worked on the plan Lew
  3. Terry: yes, I have run beta (not X8 yet) and regular versions and multiple versions and multiple instances of the same version all on the same PC no issues Lew
  4. I've run multiple versions for years together on the same PC no issues Lew
  5. Nelson: you will probably need to contact tech support on Monday they are open 6 AM - 5 PM Pacific Lew
  6. Larry: you'll probably need to contact CA's tech support on Monday open 6 Am - 5 PM Pacific Lew
  7. also try re-booting PC if it persists, try holding the CTRL key while clicking on the X8 icon Lew
  8. I have had different versions and multiple instances of the same version all running at the same time if the PC can handle it - Chief doesn't care Lew
  9. Eric: if you don't get any help here over the weekend you will probably need to contact CA's customer service on Monday they are on Pacific time maybe try re-booting PC ??? Lew
  10. Essentially life moves on I bought my first computer in 1978 I have had to buy many since then the general rule is to buy the software you need then buy the computer that can run it (best) for ver 10 that was XP and Vista I would rather have CA's resources working on the next upgrade rather than making fixes to an antique version 10 Lew
  11. if you are in need of one-on-one training David Potter would be a good choice he also does problem solving and much more Lew
  12. Joey: yes, my partner and I still think we need the hardware lock many, many reasons for this decision about preferring the hardware lock so yes, if the hardware lock gets too expensive we will have to make more decisions Lew
  13. the hardware lock use to be $50 for X7 it went to $69 so now its $115 :( I know CA doesn't like hardware locks but this price leaping is ridiculous since I am now retired I may have to give serious consideration to having X8 be my last upgrade while I can afford the cost - I just find it very annoying for such price leaping its plain and simple gottcha grabbing :( Lew
  14. Jeff: I have "tons" of Chief 10 era training, cad collections, library collections etc for free I also have lots of other cad stuff like Turbocad, Sketchup, TraversePC etc If you live within driving distance of Lockport NY (I'm willing to drive some) you can it all way too costly to mail please contact me if you are interested Lew
  15. do you have an active SSA account ??? you will probably need to contact CA's customer service - open 6 AM - 5 PM Pacific Lew
  16. yes, any .plan can be sent to another chiefer and they would be able to edit the file just as you can while the viewer is read only, there is no way to flag a .plan file to be read only if protection is a concern then send PDF's only Lew
  17. internet is just way too slow not CA's problem either - jus the internet Lew
  18. Perry: X7 released March 2015 X6 released March 2014 Lew
  19. Jacquilla: X8 is in public beta testing - available to anyone with active SSA the official release is anticipated for March this could get delayed if the Beta testing finds major issues if the issues are minor CA would probably release anyways then issue update(s) Lew
  20. it appears that CA is aiming for Q1 annually official X8 release is anticipated for March Lew
  21. They will some of the latter version plan information but only about 100% of it Andy: sorry, could you clarify this - I don't understand what your reply is saying ??? Lew
  22. Yes, I have those I'd rather not piecemeal sending out things I don't have the time for that I'm hanging on to the stuff for awhile till I find a taker that can take it all Lew

  24. I have mine to set to "previous save" I don't use the archive system I prefer to do "save as" and do them often perhaps every few minutes if I am in high design mode certainly after finishing a task I'd rather not have to do over again Lew
