Please Help! Looking For Replacement V. 10 Dongle Lock
lbuttery replied to SunnyB's topic in General Q & A
Sunny: I have already donated my ver 10 lock to someone CA requires no sale and they will help the seller verify that you own a license when I donated mine I collected $5 to pay for my mailing cost if no one steps forward to donate another choice might be to check Ebay for ver 10 copies that have the key - you can setup a search that emails you whenever a new auction starts also check out getting X1 or X2 as they might be affordable I would skip X3 due to a complicated library system that is no longer available or consider by HD PRO for $495 it would be far advanced over ver 10 there are limits such as 1 page layouts (just save as many as needed) etc BTW: if you are located within 2 hours of Lockport NY (north of Buffalo) or a halfway point I have two large tubs filled with ver 10 era training material, cad collections, library items and other misc the weight prohibits mailing due to cost Lew -
Dennis: thanks - yum yum Lew

Scott: thanks one day locks will come too Lew

HD PRO users can benefit from following Chieftlak especially when using the manual tools but following Hometalk is also good Lew -
Need A Recommendation For A Construction Book
lbuttery replied to 447Debbie's topic in Seeking Services
Debbie: try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Building-Construction-Illustrated-Third-Edition/dp/B004T6RS2Y Amazon sells used books with standard shipping of $3.99 I bought a whole library of construction and architecture books for under $10 I would buy the older editions and if I really liked the book then I would buy the current one - if I needed the newer info Lew -
no, way too many versions ago you may get a response from someone still using ver 10 but there are only a few of them you could also try the Yahoo Chief users group as there are some users there who haven't upgraded yet CA's tech support would charge a fee for tech support but ver 10 may be too old for them also good luck Lew

I found them too limiting back with ver 10 and have never tried them since Lew

Keith: I prefer to have a plan for each building on the site and a master site plan with all the terrain features needed then I create a 3D symbol of each building and store them in the library then I add those symbols to the master site plan and easily adjust as needed if I make changes to a building it only takes a few minutes to recreate and place the new 3D symbol Lew

I used to do the complete set of downloads each release and tried verifying that I had "everything" and it became a real PITA I stopped doing it with X5 - partly since I am retired and just didn't want to deal with the hassles never even tried for X6 or X7 CA use to offer a DVD with all the library content but its only good at release time of the upgrade after that it becomes "stale" and outdated as time goes by and as content changes or new libs introduced Lew

Clicking The "save Active Camera" Button Does Nothing

Keith: HD Pros users can benefit from both forums the other HD products are too limited to find much benefit from Chieftalk Lew -
Clicking The "save Active Camera" Button Does Nothing
lbuttery replied to kevincam's topic in General Q & A
Kevin: the HD products are not so much "more different" as "more limited" If the HD product has the tool it works the same as in Chief some options may be missing in a dbx but if there they should work the same HD PRO users can benefit from following Chieftalk as it has many of the manual tools that Chief has Lew -
you can usually get the same result of "magical fix" by doing F12 (rebuild walls - floors - ceilings) Lew

Approximate Effort/cost To Create .plan From Hardcopy Drawings?
lbuttery replied to DaveTheB's topic in Seeking Services
hang the prints on the wall and shoot with a digital camera or lay on the floor - might be skewed some - but photo editor can fix that - wall is best the plans pics can be imported into Chief and scaled Lew -
now if CA would just watch the video then create a dedicated tool for the task Lew

for me new OS = new PC and new PC = new OS Lew

I have decided to follow my "rule" and not download Win 10 for my Win7 desktop or Vista Laptop I will get Win10 (or later) when I need to buy a new computer My "rule" is to get a new PC with a new OS I prefer not to do the upgrade dance/hassles I am dismayed that Win 10 abandoned Windows Media Center so I will plan on getting a win7 laptop to handle that for my 60" tv center my vista laptop will be going to my museum to drive a 55" tv for doing presentations and surfing the web if I can get a mobile hotspot setup there Lew
