This could be why it isn't working
-
You have some wall connection issues in that plan. Could be causing it to not work. I have found the tool to be very effective.
-
Open the wall...it's in the roof tab.
-
There is a setting for that wall to tell it what material to have on the bottom is the wall is cut by a ceiling plane.
-
You are making the entire second floor open to below. You need to place some walls or rails or something to create a "room" that is above the staircase and open to below.

I check the box to display balusters in plan view. If the spacing isn't what I want, I use a CAD cross box the set them when I want them. Every now and then I will manually place posts, but not very often.

Reference levels/ Floor & ceiling levels in elevation
joey_martin replied to kellytengdahl's topic in General Q & A
There no trick to it really. I draw a line on the elevation use the transform/replicate tool to move it to 0'-0". From there I just draw the rest of lines and use the dimension string to set those lines. I already know the math from setting the floor structure and ceiling heights. Once I have all the lines set on the front elevation, I select them and block them, copy/paste in place on all the other elevations.- 15 replies

I use the post & beam tools as a part of the deck rails and simply add the screen material to the elevation view. My concern is mostly ConDocs though, so weather or not it will render isnt something I'm concerned with. I also add a detail as needed.

Use layer sets!

Full Barrel House (no idea how to make barrel floor)

In my opinion, Chief is the wrong software for this project. Use SketchUp and save yourself time and hair. -
Elevation drawings without sub-grade crap showing

Use the EDIT LAYOUT tool and delete the lines you don't want. -
Or you make them once and save them to your template.

Downspouts are in the library, all line weight, size and color controlled via layer/anno sets.

The program already works the way you describe. If you want your text on the CAD, ELECTRICAL layer, then set it up that way. As for the "stimulating conversation" remark. You either want our help or you don't. We are trying to tell you that the program will work the way you want it to, you just aren't listening, or can't be bothered with setting up a template for yourself to make it work that way.
-
Ummm...no disrespect, but no. Text is text. I think you can change your annos to work for the way you work, but a blanket statement like that is simply not the way CAD works. Personally, I have my template set up to think like I think. When I switch from PLAN VIEW to FRAMING VIEW all of my text, callouts, misc lines, dimensions, etc..switch with me. One click and done. When I go from FRAMING to ELECTRICAL, one click and done. Nothing complicated about that.

Then draw the angled section last....
-
I believe if you draw the angled section first, then bring the other rails off that, the newels will show angled.

Dropbox must have changed the rules! I have 54GB and have never paid. I have recommended dropbox to many people, and if they sign up I get free storage, so a lot of my friends must have signed up.

Can Auto Cad files used in conjunction with Chief?
joey_martin replied to freshrooms's topic in General Q & A
Are they 2D or 3D AutoCAD files? 2D...maybe feasable 3D...wouldn't even try (personally) -
Free version. And it works just like your USB drive without the lag and hassle of removing it and taking the chance of misplacing it.

Stairs - how do you show one stair under another?
joey_martin replied to DenisonDrywall's topic in General Q & A
Breakline and notes, or draw the stairs with CAD lines and note accordingly. -
But you are using a cabinet...johnny is not.
