How do you turn a cad drawing into a curved ceiling beam
joey_martin replied to LeRoyWells's topic in General Q & A
Not for everyone. I, for one, can make that beam in about 2 minutes in CA, 2 days in Sketchup...if I'm lucky.. -
I also can't replicate it. Do you have Autoroofs on? I do for this.

Getting an interior wall and an exterior wall to frame as one wall
joey_martin replied to LeRoyWells's topic in General Q & A
What he is talking about is when he selects the wall detail for that interior wall, he wants it to include the part of the exterior wall that is attached to it. Chief won't do that as they are different walls. It could be done I suppose. Use one single wall type over the entire plan and add the veneers using a material region, then manually do the foundation and roof. Too much work for me. -
I think....not 100% sure...but what they are talking about is that the "vector pdf" is scale able. In other words, when they look at the file they need to be able to zoom in and out without losing clarity. They need to be able to view everything. Chief will do that. Send them a file and see if that is what they need.

The front wall may have the main layer reversed or set up wrong. Look like the inside of the wall is marked as the "to foundation" layer. Or, you have an offending invisible attic wall throwing everything off.

Are you talking about in the library, or when you take a section cut and hit the auto detail button?

I didn't even notice that this thread was from 2017...Makes sense now.

My slabs show brick ledge. You sure you have your settings right?
-
You have an "attic" wall jumping up to meet the roof. Ensure your walls are aligned.
-
Did you raise the roof off the plate? For an energy heel for instance? If so, set the truss for energy heel (there is checkbox) and you should get what you want.

Martin Design & Planning has a great program aimed to assist small to medium sized builders and developers. Add to your library of offerings with new or updated homes. You get marketing materials, construction documents, and multiple options at volume pricing. Shoot an email to joeymdp@gmail.com to receive the pricing sheet and to set up a time for us to chat about your needs. Place BUILDER/DEVELOPER in the subject line.

You are telling me I'm wrong, and then set out to prove that I am right. It doesn't work.. Why not just send the plan to layout and not mess with the CAD of the plan, then it would work just like you want it to.

Wall edges, beam/posts centerlines, windows & doors to centerline. No one will convince me otherwise.

OK. Sounds like you are using Chief as a 2D program...hmmm... Anyway. Once you make a CAD from view, that is no longer a dimension string, it's a bunch of CAD lines and numbers. It won't keep the defaults of a dimension string, because it's not.

First things first...why are making a CAD detail of a floor plan view?

Block foundation is showing in the garage door ?
joey_martin replied to LeRoyWells's topic in General Q & A
The other issue is you didn't set the height of the pony wall properly. You were seeing the results of not correctly adjusting your settings. -
Block foundation is showing in the garage door ?
joey_martin replied to LeRoyWells's topic in General Q & A
This is what I have as soon as I open the plan. What is the problem? -
Unless you are asking for a specific reason, the out of the box Chief symbols are all I have used since v.9.5...not X9, version 9. They print just fine at 1/4" scale.

I have Anno Sets for these. For instance, for interior cabinet elevations I take the camera shot, choose my 1/2" scale interior elevation anno set and save the view. For building sections I have another anno set for that, and one for exterior elevations. Two clicks and done.
