  1. 20 yrs of work product, and simulations. jon
  2. +1 No more hot, grinding HDDs in my computers. (except a 16TB legacy NAS device) jon
  3. If you want UHD out, then go with the mini DP on the Aorus. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Face-Off-Aorus-X3-Plus-vs-Gigabyte-P34W-vs-Razer-Blade-14.142980.0.html jon
  4. Open the placed cooktop symbol and adjust the z axis offset. jon

  6. I use custom muntins for fixed and lites set as 1, 1, 1 for double awning with bottom movable. Now if I could figure out those twisty open round windows. jon
  7. Certain jurisdictions are wising up to the ICC cradle-to-grave-absolute-control philosophy of code development. I pity the folks who live under the tyranny of the IPMC. ICC uses language which prompts localities to criminalize code violations. I can't begin to count how often the word "Prosecute" is used in the base IPMC template to describe penalties. C'mon, failing to cut your grass needn't be a crime, but that is exactly what the ICC is pushing--and sadly, what many localities are adopting. My vote is to rein in the bureaucracy and hold elected officials accountable for blind implementation of codes without merit; serving the insurance industry more than the citizenry. And, if you're real estate deals are costing 6% commissions, then you need to work on those negotiating skills. jon
  8. Scott, Set "Software Edge Smoothing" to 0--let your expensive hardware do the work it was designed for. Also, under "Ambient Light", set your color to a mid or dark gray if you'd like shadows more apparent. Keep lighting simple to start. Turn off all fixtures and add two User Defined Lights (UDL); one in front of the camera, and one behind. Play with the height, type, color, and intensity of these two lights. This is a learning exercise that teaches you how pure light behaves in CA. Good luck, jon
  9. If you truly need pro lighting analysis with "real" 3D... http://www.dial.de/DIAL/en/dialux.html If you're not a lighting professional, be prepared for an overwhelming learning curve. jon
  10. You should see the "soup" when developing a petabyte storage array. jon
  11. I keep CA Libs in the default Program Data folder on C, Executable on D, CA Data on E, Plans/layout on F, and archived stuff on W. C, D, E, & F are SSD drives with E & F used exclusively for local copies of cloud systems. F is local OneDrive storage configured as batch update W-Z are 7200rpm HDD in NAS. The only issue I've ever has is Adobe Creative Cloud local storage on E, but that was an Adobe issue. jon
  12. iTeka on 20' pole by iGuzzini (out of production) jon iTeka_20.calibz
  13. Install the "Accessible Design" bonus library. Then search "Step in." jon
  14. This doesn't do it for me; it looks sloppy. There's no substitute for the blend/adjustment layers in PS. jon
  15. This uses ray trace and lineart produced in CAX7. The lineart is assigned as an Overlay adjustment layer in Photoshop. I did try to achieve a similar effect using Watercolor and lineart within CA, but the results were...um...yeah, ok. jon
  16. Get rid of the funky characters in the file name; try again. jon
  17. True, but as a new system stress test, the above is what I use with ray trace. A variety of materials and model types doesn't hurt either. (3D trees are always good as poly hogs) jon
  18. Scott, try stressing the system. Add > 20 various light types (point, spot, directional, UDL, fixture, sunlight) and ray trace an image at least 12"x12" @ 300dpi. Both interior and exterior cameras. If you're still getting approx. 1min per pass, then I would say the system is a rock star. jon
  19. Speccy will give much more detail on the CPU core functions than either Task Manager or Resource Monitor. Speccy is an invaluable tool to check operational specification vs. expected/published specification on newly built systems. Meanwhile, MS Resource Monitor allows "live" service, handle, and module granularity of processes using the CPU(s). jon
  20. It depends on the terms of any agreement. Typically, using manufacturers' models as a revenue center isn't going to fly. Even "hiding" those models in up-sale product and/or SSL won't cut it. If I'm XYZ Widget Co., I want my residential widgets used by the total CA consumer stack. The value proposition for manufacturers is a hands-free add/sales channel, while the value to CA is an extended feature set. <hint>However, the true value of real world symbols and materials comes at some later date when Chief can implement consumer-side BIM and make the entire HD/Room Planner product lines one big shopping cart--and they're getting 2% on every sale.</hint> jon
  21. I use an MS Mobile 4000 without issue. jon
