Why does Chief mess up terrain like this and what is best fix ... ?
dshall replied to basketballman's topic in General Q & A
A valid point, but I am not sure I think this will solve this issue. Yes, if you put the terrain on level zero, any cantilevers at level two will not remove the terrain. However, suppose you have a cantilever at level one, i.e. cantilevered bay/box window, that will now remove the terrain that is on level zero.... therefore the solution does not work for all scenarios. So I go back to putting the terrain on level one for reason's stated above, and I manipulate the terrain to show how the terrain is truly built.... model it like it is built. I never use the HIDE TERRAIN INTERSECTED BY BUILDING, this gives me the ability to do blah blah blah...... but what ever floats your boat is the best solution. -

Interesting, I have decided that level 1 is the best layer to put the terrain on. Why? Because if the terrain is on level one, that would be the level the driveway would be on. Why is that important? Because if you have a driveway, by using ref sets you can show the driveway on level zero (foundation level) and you can show on level 2, just in case your driveway is on level 2 (i.e. walkout basement on level one with the main level on level 2). Now, if CA ever gives us the MMRLS, (the multiple multiple ref layer sets, IOW the SUPER MRLS), we could choose multiple layers on multiple LEVELS to reference and therefore, it would not be as important to put the terrain on level one. But back to the genesis of the post, I never use the HIDE TERRAIN INTERSECTED BY BUILDING, this gives me the ability to do blah blah blah...... but what ever floats your boat is the best solution. -
Attach the plan..... but the quick answer is the soffit elevation is a function of the SUBFASCIA. If you post a plan, I bet you will get more answers. You have been around awhile, you know to post the plan for the best answers.

A thousand words.....

A solution is to cut that little wall out, move window over, and then put wall back in place using PASTE IN PLACE.

I never use the post to beam. It is difficult to control post locations and end of beam locations. My posts and beams are manually built. It is probably a faster way to get what you want. And the real advantage is, it now displays correctly in plan view.

Back in the GOD, I wasn't making AMM as I am now, but I did ETW. I didn't NAM as I do now, but somehow, I look back OTGOD's with fondness. If it wasn't for CA, I would not MTM I am making now. I remember back in '95, me and P took up the challenge of WFHD drawing to working in CAD. I have not looked back, and I don't think P has looked back. And finally, TGIF, because tomorrow is Saturday and TWW starts anew for me. -
THE JPC/GRAEME Floor Level Workshop Wednesday Aug.24 at 4:00 PM PST

Okay, so what quality does a court have that is different from a non specified room type that would effect the way the walls in front build. I think I understand how different room types effect structure, but what is the difference in this case? -

Actually, for not solving the problem you are required to take three of them. ", I think it is not a good idea to leave rooms as "unspecified." This should not be necessary... but I hear you -

Thanks Chop for recording this. Listening to it, there was some good stuff that might of come out of the workshop....... i.e., the little nugget that S.H. gave us in regards to a new feature in X-9. -

Yes, if fixed the 2 windows at bath. It did not fix the second floor window over front door. I do not know why you thought that would work is a mystery to me. I did change it to court.... which gave me a slab over the garage, I then changed that floor structure for the "court" to ply over floor joists and it is still fixed. Thanks Richard. Now if you can fix my second floor window over the front door, I will give you the choice of 2 of my 5 grandkids. I think this is some kind of exoteric bug..... or is that endoteric bug? -

Here is a link to the embarrassment plan. See if you can figure out how to remove the first floor walls that cover up some second floor windows. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pz0n2q7yjw7c0kw/JUSTICE%20PLAN%205A%20workshop%20a%20embarrassmnt%20plan%20a.plan.zip?dl=0 -

I just sent out the invites, if you did not get one, email me at dscotthall@mac.com -
It seems as if it is the lower wall that is causing the problem because if you change the wall to just about anything else, you can see the wall. It is something specific to that particular wall.... I think. If I use a 6" co crete stem wall, all is okay.

Nice call, I cannot figure it out either.

And the sky is blue.

You also deleted some very short walls.... that is not what he had.

Hey guys & gals, I will be sending out email invites at 3:40 PST. I am sending them out 5 minutes early so JPC can get his act together and join us (love you JPC). Please check in as early as you can to ensure you can join the meeting. Please, if you have examples of any plans you are having issues with, please have them ready. I have 4 things I want to discuss, (maybe 15 minutes), - basement on level 1 or level zero - Mon Cheries walk out basement plan - My own Justice plan - the Perucca Plan and then it will open for anybody else to be the presenter. Hopefully we will stay on topic, dealing with floor elevations and how they effect the model. I have a feeling this could be a good one. We will start promptly at 4:00 pm PST. -

I agree with JPC. I build them manually. However, you might try EXPLODING (there is a tool at bottom left corner of screen available when you select the auto dormer) the auto dormer and then play with raising and lowering the roof planes.
