This is the MAC I have been using the past 4 years... good to go. Later this year they are coming out with an upgraded IMAC, I will probably by a new IMAC. I used a PC before CA ported to MAC. I had few problems with the PC..... but I am essentially computer illiterate..... since CA ported to a MAC, I use the MAC....... I get the best MAC possible and I assume it is good to go, and it is. I do not have time and I do not want think about the hardware specs. I get the most recent MAC and I am happy.

Not necessarily, you can choose what you want shown on the ref sets. I do not think you understand the power of the ref sets. I suggest you learn them.

That is not correct. I do not like to use invisible walls. The invisible wall method will work but as I said it can get messy and I think Perry would agree. The exterior stairs can easily be shown via ref sets. I assume the stairs were drawn on level one. I am assuming they are not showing on level 2. Typically what I do is to put the EXTERIOR STAIRS (NOT IN A ROOM) on a layer called STAIRS ON GRADE (or whatever name you want), and then if you understand ref sets, you would ref the level 1 from level 2, you can then turn on ref sets and turn on the STAIRS ON GRADE layer. You will now see the stairs that are drawn on level 1 as you are looking at level 2. If you do not understand ref sets, I would suggest you learn them.

I usually show exterior stairs via the ref sets. Creating a room around exterior stairs will work but can get messy.

or try to reset the toolbars

very wise advice.

Select the string, open, and then uncheck PRIMARY DEFAULTS and then change to what you want. That should work.

It's about 60/40 for me with the majority prefab fireplaces. Masonry fireplaces are a big problem if the chimney height needs to be increased. Most of the time it is more cost efficient to tear it down and put in a prefab. I think I have extended the height of a masonry fireplace maybe twice... a big hassle.

Just to be clear JPC, it takes me 4 consecutive key strokes to enable your request. I think it would take a minimum of one key stroke, it takes me 4 keystrokes, so....... 3 extra keystrokes * 0.002 seconds * 30 operations * 2 plans* 52 weeks* 24 years = 449.28 seconds = 7.488 minutes for a 24 year period. My suggestion would be to start ordering your starbucks coffee on line and then pick up (no waiting). You will make up that 7.488 minutes on your first visit. I am off to play golf for only the 5th time this week....... nuts, life is tough.

I thought SteveMoe in previous post explained how to do it. He was smart, he assigned the hot key "PP" to the hot key, If you want to copy something and then do pt. to pt., I do that with a hot key that copies and then a hot key that pt. to pt.. It takes all of 0.933 seconds.

Hey guys, thanks for looking into this. BTW, since I use the SAM, this is the same terrain I have used for multiple projects and never noticed the cone of light before. I went back to the plan that this plan came from, and I did see the cone of light. I went back to an even older plan, and this time I did not see it, yet I think it was really the same terrain (since I use the SAM). Anyway, thanks for all of the suggestions in regards to eliminating the mysterious cone of light.

Attached is a plan and a picture of "THE CONE OF LIGHT". Does anybody want to figure out why I have "THE CONE OF LIGHT"? HIKMET APT PLAN 1A for ca light cone.plan

I too have given a lot of my time to helping on this forum. I get back as much as I give. CA has done so much for my business, I am happy to help out. That being said, I would set up a PayPal account and if you want money for the symbol, post it, offer it for free but request a donation. If you make it easy for them, most people will contribute some money..... if not, so what.
-
Does putting the symbol in a plan and sharing the plan work?
-
I had never thought about this, but why would you want to do this? Is there an advantage?
-
Racklamore my friend, that is an awesome solution, thank you. (I use a pass thru.... but the window with the fire attached to glass is cool) Jeez, I am so embarrassed I had not thought of it....... I think for correct floor plan graphics, a fireplace symbol must be installed...... I need to figure that part out. .

Ed Zachary Disease Ed Zachary Disease is when your face looks exactly like your ass, meaning you are extremely ugly. Yep, that is what my wife says to me.
-
I thought that is what we were discussing, the details.

I am not sure, but this is similar to how we deal with second floor walls. We use 16D @ 8" oc at sill plate to rim joist. So I was thinking sill plate to sole plate with nails could work pending engineers approval.
-
... minimum 8" oc, but I get your point..... of course it is better if the anchor bolt goes through all plates, but then that would defeat one of Michael's arguments in regards to the difficulty in lining up anchor bolts with holes in sill plate. As I said before, I do not use or have seen the double sill condition down here. I appreciate the input from you guys who deal with these issues and I bow down to your expertise.
-
An advantage to building the slab on level 0 and not on level 1 (not using floor supplied by floor below) ..... is you can auto put a sill plate on the foundation stem wall and still get a sill plate for the wall. I usually do not build it this way, but it is an option if you want the additional sill plate.
-
Yep, I guess so, I did that the first time and it seemed like I had less control.
-
I think the best method is to ZERO OUT floor assembly at LEVEL 1 and then put the SLAB ON LEVEL 0. Using this method, you can control elevation of the slab independent of everything else on level 0 or level 1 you can control height of conc stem wall independent of everything else on level 0 or level 1 you can control the width of all footings separately but of course the top of footing will be a constant for all stem walls. give it a try. No manually adjusting height of stem walls.

Thanks Mark, a great review. BTW, I think CA would garner all of the 2020 clients if they figured out how to do the pricing.
