  1. It's about 60/40 for me with the majority prefab fireplaces. Masonry fireplaces are a big problem if the chimney height needs to be increased. Most of the time it is more cost efficient to tear it down and put in a prefab. I think I have extended the height of a masonry fireplace maybe twice... a big hassle.
  2. Just to be clear JPC, it takes me 4 consecutive key strokes to enable your request. I think it would take a minimum of one key stroke, it takes me 4 keystrokes, so....... 3 extra keystrokes * 0.002 seconds * 30 operations * 2 plans* 52 weeks* 24 years = 449.28 seconds = 7.488 minutes for a 24 year period. My suggestion would be to start ordering your starbucks coffee on line and then pick up (no waiting). You will make up that 7.488 minutes on your first visit. I am off to play golf for only the 5th time this week....... nuts, life is tough.
  3. lol, no, I did not think of that. Hey CA, fix this please.
  4. I thought SteveMoe in previous post explained how to do it. He was smart, he assigned the hot key "PP" to the hot key, If you want to copy something and then do pt. to pt., I do that with a hot key that copies and then a hot key that pt. to pt.. It takes all of 0.933 seconds.
  5. Hey guys, thanks for looking into this. BTW, since I use the SAM, this is the same terrain I have used for multiple projects and never noticed the cone of light before. I went back to the plan that this plan came from, and I did see the cone of light. I went back to an even older plan, and this time I did not see it, yet I think it was really the same terrain (since I use the SAM). Anyway, thanks for all of the suggestions in regards to eliminating the mysterious cone of light.
  6. Attached is a plan and a picture of "THE CONE OF LIGHT". Does anybody want to figure out why I have "THE CONE OF LIGHT"? HIKMET APT PLAN 1A for ca light cone.plan
  7. I too have given a lot of my time to helping on this forum. I get back as much as I give. CA has done so much for my business, I am happy to help out. That being said, I would set up a PayPal account and if you want money for the symbol, post it, offer it for free but request a donation. If you make it easy for them, most people will contribute some money..... if not, so what.
  8. Does putting the symbol in a plan and sharing the plan work?
  9. I had never thought about this, but why would you want to do this? Is there an advantage?
  10. Racklamore my friend, that is an awesome solution, thank you. (I use a pass thru.... but the window with the fire attached to glass is cool) Jeez, I am so embarrassed I had not thought of it....... I think for correct floor plan graphics, a fireplace symbol must be installed...... I need to figure that part out. .
  11. Ed Zachary Disease Ed Zachary Disease is when your face looks exactly like your ass, meaning you are extremely ugly. Yep, that is what my wife says to me.
  12. I thought that is what we were discussing, the details.
  13. I am not sure, but this is similar to how we deal with second floor walls. We use 16D @ 8" oc at sill plate to rim joist. So I was thinking sill plate to sole plate with nails could work pending engineers approval.
  14. ... minimum 8" oc, but I get your point..... of course it is better if the anchor bolt goes through all plates, but then that would defeat one of Michael's arguments in regards to the difficulty in lining up anchor bolts with holes in sill plate. As I said before, I do not use or have seen the double sill condition down here. I appreciate the input from you guys who deal with these issues and I bow down to your expertise.
  15. An advantage to building the slab on level 0 and not on level 1 (not using floor supplied by floor below) ..... is you can auto put a sill plate on the foundation stem wall and still get a sill plate for the wall. I usually do not build it this way, but it is an option if you want the additional sill plate.
  16. Yep, I guess so, I did that the first time and it seemed like I had less control.
  17. I think the best method is to ZERO OUT floor assembly at LEVEL 1 and then put the SLAB ON LEVEL 0. Using this method, you can control elevation of the slab independent of everything else on level 0 or level 1 you can control height of conc stem wall independent of everything else on level 0 or level 1 you can control the width of all footings separately but of course the top of footing will be a constant for all stem walls. give it a try. No manually adjusting height of stem walls.
  18. Thanks Mark, a great review. BTW, I think CA would garner all of the 2020 clients if they figured out how to do the pricing.
  19. Oops, don't forget the sill plate on the block wall. How about 13 courses and a 4x P.T. sill on top? Oops, is the block sitting on a slab or footings with a slab then poured between the block walls. I say let the electrician figure it out.
  20. FYI, there is no data in your posted files. You must first close the file and then post..... or close CA AND THEN POST.... pst the plan and I am sure you will get an answer.
  21. Yep, that would be my guess.... I think it should be set to 100.00
  22. I have not updated to the latest because I have seen several reports such as this. This is the first time I have not updated immediately. I think I will need to bite the bullet soon and update....... I hope it works out.
  23. This is so silly. You should not even need to ask the question....... but I get it...... the way CA works some of its text is a mystery. I might have have a text block I am looking at in its DBX, and it is a guess on how many tabs I need to line up with text above and the text below. I willl say the Alaskan son did a good vid on thiss a couple of weeks ago, but if I had to guess, his solution does not solve your issue. i hear your complaint.
  24. Well, if the floor elevations are not defaullt elevations, they willl not change. I apologize because I did not open your attached plan.
