  1. Glenn, I can buy a brand new license, open a new plan, save as plan 1, I do not believe this changes OOB settings. To change OOB settings I would then need to save plan 1 as a template plan. I have never saved a plan as a template plan.
  2. Glenn, you are not listening. I did not change the settings of default plan. When I open a new plan they are CA's defaults. I hate them. They do not work for me. I have not created a new plan in years, all my plans are edited from older plans. If I bought a brand new license and opened a new plan, those settings will be exactly what I get when I open a new plan. When I open a brand new plan, they are truly OOB. One reason I have never changed CA template plan, is when I do a video, I want to be clear that the results are never effected by my own personnel defaults. When I open a new plan the default plate height is 97-1/8". I never create a work project from this file. I have no files with a 97-1/8" plate height. Anyway, it's not important, your answer was better than mine because it was a perfect answer for 99.999999% of the users, and I was a bit embarrassed that my answer was not truly correct, I deserved the black mark.
  3. You are right JC, I could certainly be more tactful, sorry.
  4. Nope, when I open a new plan, they are truly OOB settings, and yes from CA' template plan. 8-1/2 years ago I opened a new plan. I changed the defaults for me. I saved that as plan 1. Every new project originates from that very first plan...... Which did come from the OOB SETTINGS.
  5. I think what you are asking Is when I open CA and OPEN A NEW PLAN, where are the defaults coming from. I assume they are loaded from the OOB settings. Glenn, whenever I start a new plan, the info is OOB, I have never created a template plan to override the OOB settings. Everybody in the world probably has a template plan, I don't. Remember I use the SAM.
  6. Ross, I did vid, not too good, did not post. I think you did much better in 2 minutes than I did in 30 minutes. Full rooms not being defined did effect the baseline height of roofs. Nice call on the frieze, I did not pick that up. Did pick up attic wall solution. Not sure if the time you spent is valued by the OP.
  7. Glenn, it was the OOB answer. I said OOB was out of the of the box settings, which is very true unless you set up a profile plan. Once a profile plan is set up, that messes up the OOB settings. You correctly stated that my answer was incorrect if a profile plan has been created. Since I have never created a "profile plan" I firmly believe my response was correct. And for one of my good buddies, (by the way, I did buy you that very very expensive coffee table book), to give me a black mark is totally unforgivable, I just want you to know that "my people" will be contacting "your people". BTW, how is Jenny doing, I did like her a lot more than you. Oh yeah, I just remembered, your gift to me was a set of Kangaroo Testicles.....
  8. Hey Ron, I am past Breaking Bad, i have moved onto Veronica Mars, pretty good show. No my son never used a MAC, he was always on PC and always used REVIT. Yeah, I am all over Apple now. Been an Apple guy since 1989, only reason I bought the PC was to use this program. All MAC because everything syncs, IPAD, IPHONE, IMAC, ILAPTOP and the ILYNN...... ..... and yes I am a major suck up, but nobody at CA notices......
  9. I think the reputation points is to keep us in line. I have received a couple of negative reputation reports from my good friends JC and the Great Glenn Woodward, and I personally do not believe I deserved them. I think my answers were quite good. At the end of the year I have an appointment to meet with the CA gurus to dispute the negative reviews that I have received from my friends. I have even retained a lawyer and I am seeking civil retributions. But you know what, I still like them, I think it was their way of keeping me on my toes. Thanks guys, keep zapping me when I get out of line.
  10. It may have been November 2005. The seminar was in my home town, San Diego, so I wasn't staying in the hotel, but I would commute home, I remember I wanted to have Mont over for dinner, I figured I could drill him for additional info til 2:00 in the morning, I never invited him over for dinner,..... Heck, if I was smarter, I would of invited everybody over and we could of had a protracted lesson.......
  11. P., is that 9 years or 8.5, 8.5 for me. We were in the same CA seminar, Mont was our instructor, October of 2005 I believe, now, the next question, is there anybody else from that class who is still using CA?
  12. Wasn't that a commercial? Next question..... Which commercial? Progressive insurance or the two guys who sing..... Another insurance commercial.... Nuts..... I can hear it, just can't remember the company, obviously not a good commercial.
  13. Mac to PC to Mac and back to PC and back to Mac and back to PC and back to Mac........ I sure wish they would fix the PRINT TO PDF on the Mac.
  14. I did not see posted plan. Oooohhhhh. I hate crashes, such a waste of time. I don't do photon mapping, but, I think you said you turned it off. My first thought was maybe you had some LIGHTS IN YOUR PLAN AND THEY WERE TURNED ON. When I do RT's I stay away from the RESOURCE HOGGING settings and I usually get what I need.
  15. I do not want to steal Tommy's thunder but..... I cut to CAD, group select, paste in place in plan ON IT'S OWN LAYER, confirm line style, line wt is per layer, and I am done. I do not need to block it and I do not need to send it to back....... cannot explain why I do not have to do that but I don't...... might have to do with the fact the the line weight is less than that of the 3D WALLS. For the newbies, I would recommend attending Tommy's seminar, there is usually something good you will learn.
  16. I ain't sure what that is, but it sure sounds convenient. Is that where you can sit in your LAZY-BOY and just imagine the vacation, you know, when a commercial comes on during ANIMAL PLANET, you can quickly switch over to your TELEPORTATION VACATION?
  17. This is why it is so important for a question to be very specific. The more we know about the program, the more options we have. Larry will have to pipe in on what he was really asking. I am getting to the point where I am tired of trying to guess what the OP wants. Heck fire, if we want, we can visually eliminate all materials on a roof plane. Eliminate the shingle and the ply... just give it an OPENING NO MATERIAL designation, but I am assuming Larry knows that. But then I am with you Perry, I am at no brainer status too, just ask the plan checkers around this area...... I ain't even going there.
  18. No he did not, I assumed that is what he was asking for. If it was not a temporary condition, of course there are many options to get what he wants, including what Rich had suggested. I guess I thought that what Rich suggested was a no brainer and everybody knew of that option.
  19. I think the idea was to temporarily turn off the shingles without changing the material to expose the ply. Similar to being able to selectively turn off a floor finish and then the floor ply to show the floor joists.
  20. CA has not always been the best when dealing with customers. Overall I think the support is good. It just so happens that I am not sure if some of the personnel who handles the phone lines are very good with dealing with clients. Some of the staff needs to take a lesson in listening to their customers while being able to subtlety telling their clients to pack sand without their customers knowing it. I should probably take the same class. Ahhhh, the art of the salesman, there is a reason why good sales people make good money. On a positive note, CA personnel are always available, something that many companies do not offer these days. It is hard to form a negative feeling about a companies personnel when you can't even speak to them.
  21. Post 40, I did a vid,
  22. Interesting question. No. But if you do an OVERVIEW, you can use the surface delete tool to eliminate the shingles and see only the ply. I do not think there is a layer where as you can turn off shingles and see the ply. Turn off roof layer and you lose the shingles, ply and roof framing.
