  1. That is definitely not normal but it is likely just a windows glitch that will probably reset with a restart. If it persists and you don't get a good answer here tech support my be able to help.
  2. Yes a "Joist Direction" indicator has settings that will control that for you. Build Framing> Joist Direction.
  3. Technically no but there are a few ways you could get around this. Place a polyline with fill over your displayed symbol, or create a cad block with lines and assign that to replace the 2D block that the symbol uses.
  4. Preferences are generally not the first place to look when you are having a plan specific problem but maybe this is the first time you have tried to render a view with such a high surface count. So if "Texture Compression" helped then you are reaching the limit of your video card's capability. The other setting you might look at on the same panel is "Hardware Edge Smoothing"
  5. If you wan to know for sure save the file with the materials as a "Backup Entire Plan...." Also save your camera so we have all the settings you are using, Then repost.
  6. Katie, Is that a PBR view you posted or Standard ? I am also thinking maybe your graphics card is weak since it seems that you do have some of the vanity color showing in your shot.
  7. Also your rendering technique is not shown when you use the child toolbar for other tools. Please let us know that as well as the specifications of your video card may come into play in a situation like this. You can zip the plan file or upload to your cloud account and post the link. Also save the camera you are using first.
  8. You likely hit F8 without realizing. I think that is the default hotkey for this Color toggle tool typically on the right toolbar not in your screen shot. If you can't find the tool just try F8 again.
  9. So for a lot of operations in Chief I am not sure that your processer will actually out preform mine even though you have double the number of cores. In fact that may actually be a handicap even though it should not be. Years ago I put my processer up in a head to head competition with a buddy that was complaining about plan performance in Chief and he had an overclocked industrial Xeon setup in his system. There was no way I could ray trace and keep up with him but beat him hands down with a lot of basic operations in Chief. That is most likely your choke point right there. See what your mother board will handle and get the fastest SSD you can upgrade to and you will most likely notice quite a difference.
  10. Wow. I don't see how you could possibly be experiencing lag with those computer specs and a 25MB plan file. I am wondering if you have some plan corruption or if it is consistent across many plan files of a similar size ? The other thing you should be listing for the experts to respond to would be the hard drive you are running chief on.
  11. Yes absolutely. Although you may want to use a photo editor first to make it seamless before you import.
  12. I think you could do that in Substance.
  13. This should get you started if you can't find anything existing in the library and rotate it 90° https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00767/creating-a-new-material.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/search/?default_tab=all&q=custom+materials
  14. There is a new setting that was introduced in X11. Preferences>General>File Management>File Association> "Associate Files With This Program..." If that does not do it call tech support with your serial number.
  15. That is a little odd that slab footings are at that level but it seems that it is also throwing off your window elevations possibly you are measuring from the footing or stem wall and not the interior floor level. I would be glad to take a look at your plan file for you. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/6122/foundation-and-bearing-walls.html
  16. Lauren, If you draw a slab footing that is completely independent it will have fill by default. However as soon as it is joined to another wall that has room definition it will loose that fill style. Check to be sure your wall is properly connected but if for some reason it can not be connected then the fill can be removed from the wall definition.
  17. Did you see this one listed under Pully ? The rope may be a bit of a challenge but maybe a start.

  19. This still breaks a few rules but see what you and your client think. It mostly maintains the original intent I think. I can give you the file as a reference but please don't use it as your master.
  20. I will see if I can tweak it for you later this evening or possibly Eric would be willing since he is almost there anyway and really good with roofs.
  21. It is not that it will not work. It is just that the truss company is only responsible for the roof not blowing off or falling in. I am pretty sure that even in Pensacola it rains hard occasionally. You might be able to modify Eric's idea just a bit and have the ridge of the entrance meet the left right ridge exactly and then relax the new right plane that intersects the garage to also top out at the original height of the main left right ridge. Did that make sense ?
  22. Somehow I knew you would be able to come up with something that would work. Another good solution !
  23. That definitely fixes the water issue. Great option as long as there are no height restrictions.
  24. Ok that is a good thing then. You at least have the ability to make the changes before it is built.
