  1. Interesting but I am at a loss as to when and why you might actually want that default behaviour ? And yes a deck should always be below the porch level as would be expected. No ? At least there is a solution this time. Thank You.
  2. Any thoughts on why auto deck framing would invade a porch room by the thickness of the exterior wall beyond the defined deck room ?
  3. I think it is worse than misquotes tonight because if you have room definition there should be no need for manual roof planes. So use the room defined roof plane in the shed area and turn off the roof plane ceiling surface in the attic. No ?
  4. Yes you can use the room ceiling or the roof plane ceiling surface to control it.
  5. So Canadians don't have a south? No wonder its always cold up there. Not exactly sure but it may just be that the sun is lower in the sky and traditionally if bearings are shot pointing North it keeps the sun out of your eyes and the lens. It just sucks for the surveyors assistant trying to decipher hand signals from bug swats while looking into the sun which may have reduced the accuracy more than the lens flare.
  6. It looks like a Canadian survey where they don't use South bearings and is makes for quit a difficult situation using chief's methods. I almost always need to use individual cad lines that are not connected so that they can be reversed individually. If you make sure all the numbers are entered precisely it works. There were a few little errors or corrections you were making trying to make the connection but you missed the 5.72' radius in the corner.... Easy to overlook. See corrected plan file... 7. That is definitely a bit odd but it can be removed by deleting the ceiling surface from the roof plane above.
  8. Well isn't that interesting.... I also made my walls 6' thick. And applied the Owens Corning "European Castle Stone" in a custom scaled format. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/detail/724 Yes you will need to use some walls if your openings need to have doors in them so that is good. Not so sure that the software will handle a diagonal doorway in the corner intersection of a wall quite yet though. You can constrain the snapping characteristics of automatic walls to a certain extent by using an intersecting room divider wall that is invisible. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/98/moldings-primitives-3d-cad.html There are quite a few very talented users here on the forum so keep us posted of your progress and if you get stuck you can always post your plan file and those that are interested can play along with you.
  9. You can import a .skp file into chief usually without issue. .3ds or .dae are also good options that are better at handling materials.
  10. What would the actual method of construction be for these ancient walls ? If the this structure is just walls and no roof I don't see any reason it could not be built with p-solids or solids when necessary. The tough part is interpreting two incompatible and not to scale floor plans that don't seem to be compatible with the written description. The description seems to make sense but then why are there two different floor plans ? Could you sketch out your interpretation of an A doorway in 3D ? The rest should be easy.
  11. https://laptoping.com/gpus/product/intel-iris-xe-g7/ Question Pat S. – January 19, 2021 Software I need to download says “ 3D class video card with 1 GB of memory or higher and support for hardware acceleration.” Is the Intel Iris Xe sufficient? Notify me of replies Dan – January 19, 2021 Hi, generally the Intel Iris Xe isn’t a “3D class video card”. It’s an integrated graphics processor which uses the notebook’s main memory since it hasn’t its own. It is much weaker than what’s usually considered to be 3D class video cards with their own memory. For example, the Nvidia GeForce GTX or RTX series with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB video memory. Nevertheless, the Iris Xe is a good performer in comparison to other integrated graphics processor and it can utilize 1GB of the main system memory. It’s possible that it can work with your software, but still it will run graphics operations much slower than real video cards.
  12. Check your Render settings in Preferences such as "Hardware Edge Smoothing" and "Texture Compression" What video card was in your last laptop ? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/sysreq.html
  13. That was just done as a test and for demonstration purposes so there was a common reference point. My actual build does not have a sub fascia so that makes things a bit more complicated but thanks anyway.
  14. Thanks John, At least I am not the only one replacing all my rafters with polylines.
  15. If you convert those to PDF and then convert the PDF to DWG and import the DWG you will be able to get all the boundary lines. Then convert the polyline to get a Road Marking.
  16. Yes you abandoned auto roof when I am not sure there was any reason to. Take a look at all the wall and roof settings in the plan file that I edited for you.
  17. Try to work with auto roof as long as you possibly can. It should be able to handle a roof such as this. See attached plan file. Existing Chopped.plan

Officially the first quarter of 2021.
  19. Has anyone figured out how you need to hold your tongue in order for a rafter tail with a vertical section at the tip, such as the one in the core catalogue RT09, to produce the correct display in plan view ?
  20. It may be picking up something from another application that is open behind chief but that really should not happen either.
  21. With that cursor but it only appears at a location where there are tiled windows which I do not see in the screen shot. Sorry.
