One extra click but I just open the Circle DBX and input what I want for radius or diameter.

The soffit tool is meant for that purpose unless you are hoping to show framing ? The soffit tool is hiding with the cabinet tools.

Detail is grey'd-out when sent to print from layout

Justin, Are the cad details in a file called ....REMODEL 8-22 ? I have an old ....8-21 but no joy with that one,I think that was the last version you posted. -
You can create a landing from any shape of Polyline but you will have issues duplicating the curved composite decking that way. I think I would build the whole landing with poyline solids. Depending on the level of accuracy you require you could build a deck or three all on separate levels and then make the curved decking with a face profile rotated about the center of the arc of the deck and a copy of the same face extruded the other way for the straight extras. Then maybe replace or cover the framing with a polyline solid and some lights. A lot of custom work but it can be done if you take the time to learn it. Quick proof of concept pictured but it would take a bit more time to complete. The upper tier will be the easiest because chief will work for those border planks.

You will need to create a Room molding Polyline so that you can control that sort of thing. But then again maybe not depending on where the miter goes?

Finally got it figured out that the panels were jumping over to the unused Millwork layer so I had to toggle that layer with the default Stairs & Ramps to get it to display properly. Anyway tech now has it on the fix it list.

Not really sure if that is a bug or just something the software was never intended to do.

Perry is that with the Sun follows camera setting ? I can make that do some pretty crazy stuff with and interior shot and a manually placed light that is turned off like Michael said.
-
You are probably seeing a lot more now without your dark glasses but is it a single square shadow like in Scott's plan file or all over like Michael and Eric have posted. As Anne said the single one can be attributed to the default light, but if you are seeing more you may need to also send in a plan file.

I believe you have correctly identified the current limitations of the 3D viewer. So far just High Definition ( Standard View ) and Low Definition ( Vector View ) with or without shadows, and not quite as high resolution as we normally see on our screens as we are working. I suppose that if you wanted something more creative you could make a copy of your plan file and mess with all the individual material properties. Hoping this will be improved in the future.

Here is the step by step if you have not tried anything like this before : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/369/creating-matching-textures-for-deck-planking-rim-rail-and-stairs.html?playlist=94

Yes I would support this as a suggestion as it would reduce the use of masks in layout and speed things up. As Glenn says there are ways to make the rectangle work better but not everyone builds rectangular houses. One thing that you may not be aware of is that the layout box corners can be filleted from just a little all the way to a proper circle that I sometimes use as live detail blowups.
-
Well wouldn't you know it, even after a fresh reboot when I print my layout everything updates and the railing panels display on the layer that is turned off. No more live views until that gets fixed I guess. It might be nice to have the option to not rebuild everything during the print process.

Does that have anything to do with Minimum Area ?

So not like this ?

PLAN DEFAULTS>Dimensions> Auto Exterior Dimensions> Locate Objects> Wall Options> Select "Both Wall Sides"

Thank You Dermot, After failing with the seventh workaround I went back and you gave me just enough information to reverse engineer a solution. I added an invisible stair to control the thickness of the invisible landing which controls the offset railing system that I needed. That only took seven hours to finish the final part for that whopper workaround. Fortunately I had an open section of deck that was available or I am not sure there would have been a solution. Hoping to see great things in X10.

Yes that is an option but I can also draw one with psolids but need something faster with the same control. Maybe a semi smart rail that does not randomly snap to other things. A landing railing can be duplicated and occupy the same space as another landing railing to provide a second top rail or offset spindles. In my situation I need an offset dropped rail that will face mount with a double top rail and offset spindles. Ends and openings can be controlled with precision on a Stair Landing. I have tried non room definition railings but found issues where they do not behave as non room definition. The last workaround that I have not tried yet is with a wall rail but that may be a little easier than I initially thought but then again most of the other techniques I have tried have broken down at the last stage in one way or another. It just a matter of how much compromise is acceptable and I am not happy with the six workarounds I have tried so far.
-
Thank You Dermot, It is nice to know there was some logic used in the original programming. I am just using the railings of the landing for a workaround to do something a normal rail will not do. Joining it to a ramp railing used for the stairs where the stair railing will not work. Need some smarter railing tools or maybe just a dumb railing that stays where you put it that is not dependent on a room or stair or landing or ramp and can be controlled as an independent object for elevation, length and height.

Is that ever strange. I am sure that both of my suggestions worked the first time I tried but now I can't reproduce. It also did not show initially in Camera View Set and I went to All On Set but now that is not even working when I go back to Camera View it reappears. Super mysterious.

That appears to be a Bloom patch. Turn off bloom or build a roof and it goes away. Sorry I could not give a better answer. You could call tech.

Has anyone ever figured out how to adjust, or in my case today eliminate, the Landing Top (Tread) thickness or has this been neglected since the tool was introduced. The material default is from Material Defaults> Stair Tread but what about a default for thickness. What am I missing?

It really should be automatic but at least it is not impossible.

Mark, Is that Cream Corrugated Metal because the one in my Library has a bad Bump Map
