Stairs to sit on top of landing and not the side
Chopsaw replied to StephenM's topic in General Q & A
The deselection of "Auto Heights" is for the stairs not the landing. If you set the stair height first and don't change it then you should be ok. It may not give you a perfect section view but should look ok in 3D I think. -
Stairs to sit on top of landing and not the side
Chopsaw replied to StephenM's topic in General Q & A
You should be able to drag that landing under the stairs if you turn off the landing railing and deselect "Automatic Heights" for the stairs. -
I am not sure you can auto dimension exterior walls to the center of framing but you can certainly move you dimension snaps to that location if you set it to.
-
Sure. Do it the old way with a transparent .png image file. Just put it on the page you need rather than page 0. Might even be possible to do an export of your existing one.

The arrow should change with the layer color but if you have chosen an arrow that requires fill then you need to look at your Roof Defaults > Arrow.

Just a little curious where you are running into that format and that level of accuracy as surveyors seem to be happy with the accuracy of displaying seconds when it is necessary ? Chief will not do that with line display options. However if we had line labels I am sure it could be done with a macro, a rather complex macro to be precise.

1 1/2 Story multi pitch roof kneewall error message anyone help?
Chopsaw replied to Gdorough11's topic in General Q & A
Hard to say for sure. Perhaps you have the DBX format set to feet and you are making entries in inches that are being interpreted as feet. Maybe a little more information on exactly what you were doing to cause the error message to come up since it sounds like it has happened multiple times. You can always post your plan file and perhaps one of the experts will take a look for you if they know exactly what you are attempting to achieve. -
Give it a try with your Preferences set to: Appearance > Display > Color off is: > Grayscale. It gives the drawings a little bit of life when you need to print in Black and White. Or just create your PDF in color and then use your printer grayscale setting to print then you have the best of both worlds.

You could convert your PDF to a .dwg file but that won't give you elevation data. You should be able to get some lines or points that you could manually convert to elevation data perhaps.

Can you change the o.c. spacing and make it work or do you require something irregular ?

Convert a GPX file from tracks in meters to a GPX with waypoints in feet?

Any luck importing into a metric template ? Might be worth a try. -
Issues sending layout pdf to a print shop (Staples.com)
Chopsaw replied to MCCCcc's topic in General Q & A
I have not had that exact error message before but have had plenty of others. You say you have "perspective views" included in your PDF as most Chief Architect users would. Staples will not print those as blueprints which they interpret as strictly vector line drawings. They also complain about file size and say the file size needs to be 25MB or less. I compress to 15MB and still get the same error. The only thing I use Staples for is walk in self serve printing of 11 x 17 or 8 1/2" x 11. No issues with color then as long as you don't mind the thin paper they provide. -
It seems maybe there is still a quirk with that and this has to be the oddest work around ever imaginable. Try running "plan check" and see if that resolves the issue.

Start drawing your line in the approximate direction you want it and press tab.

How to measure wall height at a given point (pitched roof)
Chopsaw replied to pineapplenope's topic in General Q & A
Pop open an elevation camera that is facing the wall in question and you can use the measuring tool and place dimensions and also send that view to layout. Hope that helps and Welcome to ChiefTalk. -
You may need to fil it with a 1/2" solid by setting up and elevation view and possibly positioning it in plan view.
-
There are three options that are automated. A 3D Perspective view, A 2D Symbol "profile view", and a 3D Elevation view. These are all vector line drawings. If you want something different you can label your own column and paste an image over top of the schedule in layout but it is a lot of work to create and maintain if there are any changes.

I believe that behavior is based on the panel symbol. It will stretch but always keeps it's basic geometry. Try stretching a copy to 12' or shrink to 8' and I think you will see that is the situation.

Changing basement from level 0 to level 1?
Chopsaw replied to JWPrendergast's topic in General Q & A
I would first make a backup plan file just in case and then use edit area to move your main floor to level 2 then once that is clear move your basement to level 1. Not sure it would all work perfectly though so that is the reason for the backup and it may require some cleanup. Last time I used edit area some items were not selected but it was manageable. -
You could do it with some fancy math in a macro but I think that is why sections are not usually done on a angle.

How about a pass through and some cabinet shelves ?
-
There are some cad blocked examples in your Core Catalog but personally I prefer to do a schedule that is limited to what is included in your specific plan rather than throw out every thing under the sun.

Sure but it you want it to be dynamic and swing with the door you will need to make that suggestion to Chief.
