Macro that can evaluate if a layer is "on" or "off".
Chopsaw replied to GlennShaw's topic in General Q & A
I think I get what you are after and the AutoCAD logic you are using, however Chief does a lot of things differently and you may need to take a different approach for now. You will likely need a much simpler macro that simply reports when the object layer is on and does not report when the object layer is off, so each buyer option has a reporting macro embedded and the ones that are on and selected by the buyer are reporting and the others are not. Again there are a lot of things to consider with respect to what objects you are using and how you want the information collected and reported so you may have to at least post a dumbed down but specific example that represents what you are doing if we are not understanding what you are trying to accomplish. -
Pretty sure Rob was just being humous. We really need more information as to how you got to this state. The screen shot is great but it really only shows how messed up the situation is. Ideally we need to know what version you are using and the plan file would be quite helpful.

Macros for Creating Small fractions (1/8, 1/16, etc.)
Chopsaw replied to joeypet's topic in General Q & A
You must be referring to ALT codes which have limited application in Chief Architect. It seems some of these can be generated in Microsoft software programs and then pasted into Chief architect but are primarily for other disciplines and not measurement systems that we are all accustomed to. https://www.webnots.com/keyboard-shortcuts-for-vulgar-fractions-in-windows-and-mac/ If you really want something live and want to take advantage of what Chief Architect has to offer then labels and macros are the way to go. -

Not really sure what macros you are referring to but try this in your label: 2pc.%depth% LVL -
Does this work for you ?

Custom Pop-up dialog Boxes when placing objects?
Chopsaw replied to OGDesigner's topic in General Q & A
Labels would give you a plan view "Warning" provided the objects label layer is turned on, however another option would be to use an Object Information field. Use the Comments field or create your own User Information field. These can also be displayed in the label information by calling them with a macro if you wanted to go that route- 2 replies

Truss bottom chord as ceiling frame - how to
Chopsaw replied to Michael_Gia's topic in General Q & A
I did not try but you certainly have a point there. I suspect the soffit supports would not build automatically and would need to be added in the truss detail or by modification of the truss envelope. -
Truss bottom chord as ceiling frame - how to
Chopsaw replied to Michael_Gia's topic in General Q & A
Pretty sure those flat areas are for the overhanging soffit area so regular sloped ceiling planes should be all that is required. -
That is a difficult angle to analyze but it appears you have three arches and four suspension points and whatever software that was used the designer had some difficulties. I think you are likely best to work with solids and carefully revolve a small face in elevation view. Post a couple more views if you run into issues.

That would really depend on the type of installation you are hoping to create. Post an example for the best advice.

Are you absolutely sure it is a toilet "fixture" and not a light "fixture" ?
-
Normally things display on the floor you draw then on. However you can cut and paste to another floor without changing position if you use an "absolute" elevation reference and that my be acceptable for your display purposes. However this will not work for your moldings so you would need to convert them to symbols. You can also use reference displays to display entire layers of items which may be more practical as Mark just mentioned above.

How to view the Framing in the 3D Viewer App?
Chopsaw replied to MichaelMinick's topic in General Q & A
Pretty sure it is still not possible to show rendering techniques from the software in the 3D viewer as displayed in Chris's second post. The best you get is what is shown in the first post with the textures visible. It is a bit more work and requires a couple of 3rd party software programs but edge lines have been available in 3D PDF for a long time now. -
Opening CAV9.5 Layout File & Saving Via X8 doesn’t work

Quite likely that is the issue if you overlooked that step. Tools > Layout > Referenced Plan Files... -
Opening CAV9.5 Layout File & Saving Via X8 doesn’t work
Chopsaw replied to mthd97's topic in General Q & A
Just a guess but did you verify the new layout file is properly linked to the new plan file ? -
Searching for a mini surveyor kit compatible with autocad
Chopsaw replied to agapimmo's topic in General Q & A
I think after 24 hours you have your answer. I would love to be proven wrong though, Your heart is definitely in the right place but I don't think the technology is quite at the level you were hoping it would be at this point in time. First I think you can find a few more details and opinions on moasure right here on this forum by searching. Great tool but not yet to the standards this industry strives for I think would be the general consensus here. Also most consumer based GPS systems are not there yet either. If you have a reasonably clear and level site it is likely more economical to use the existing reference points and triangulate your new positions. If there is a missing component to what I just mentioned then it gets quite a bit more expensive and time consuming unless you are ok with a proportional loss of accuracy. However if you have surveyor quality data that you have somehow entered in Chief then you can get " surveyor quality " data back out but then you would require a surveyor or competent total station operator to lay that back out for you on the building site. I have a macro that collects that data from your CA plan file and will create a text file to be used with a total station if you think you would like to go that direction.- 6 replies

Unfortunate situation for sure but way too many variables to troubleshoot. Sounds like perhaps a rendering issue so maybe start with posting the specifications of the new computer. We would all assume the new computer would have better specifications that the old one that was working fine but perhaps you chose a different class of machine ? Also good to know what version of the software you are using. Hopefully the .zip file was a backup copy that contains all the materials but even if not defaults should have been substituted. If all of the above checks out we may need to have a look at your plan file.

It would appear as though the ends of your ramp need to be skewed. So your ramp can provide the railing or actually two skinny ramps and then a roof plane can be used for the sloped framing and roof purlins for decking all but a few boards that may need to be p-solids if they don't trim properly.

Add a couple lines and I think we have it now ?
-
I think this might be a better approach since you are using x14. This uses the Number Formatter function and will round up to the nearest inch.
-
I thought there may be limitations but did not think of that one. That may go beyond my current level of expertise. Although it likely can be accomplished. If you are not going to be using fractions then that should really help. Perhaps @solver could quickly add a few lines and make it work ? Or a different approach altogether.

There is likely a more elegant way to do this but I think this will work in the mean time. Post back if it fails.

It would appear that video was made with an earlier build of X15 and they have since decided to adjust the tool icon so it does not look so much like the coplaner tool. Maybe. It would be a lot easier to figure out if they would be courteous enough to date or mark their "timeless" video's with the build number. Any way it would seem the new tool icon is in the same position but looks like this:
