  1. No problem as it may not be something that can be fixed anyway so that could be a great workaround.
  2. Sorry Michael I thought I had lots of these but can't seem to find one I can post publicly. I will send you one privately if that is ok.
  3. Oh ok now I see where you are going. Tech support tried to also take me that direction on Friday. This is different when importing as it seems to just import as a text box item and is not tied to the cad line the way it is in chief. Ok so then it must depend on what software is used for the creation of the .dwg file. Obviously no solution then without some help from Chief to identify and convert that on import. Ok I will look for one that I can post without a copyright as tech was also asking for a copy.
  4. Not quite sure what you are saying Ray as the formatting is fine in the .dwg file with the ° but then chief converts that to % % d. Unfortunately I am not the one doing the survey or producing the .dwg file. Formatting standards here in Canada seem to be consistent for what I have seen so far. ie. N 70°40'20" E and unfortunately we do not use South bearings here so that adds another twist when using Chief. I suppose surveyors north of the border traditionally have always kept the sun on their backs and out of their lenses.

Also would be really great if you could edit the thread title to be a little more subject appropriate now that so may people have contributed to the topic and created a worthwhile searchable ( Only if the thread title or tags are subject appropriate ) information data base. Thanks.

I think the point Joe was making is that the grain will automagically be correct when you use the Truss tool. Just another chief quirk. You can also do a fair amount of manual editing of automatic truss webs in the truss detail. Here is a short vid that Michael did a while back.
  7. Has anyone experienced or found a solution to the Quadrant Bearing format being corrupted when a .dwg survey is imported into chief. Not really sure if it is incompatible font issue or what might be causing the problem as I have seen some imports that work but the majority of mine do not. The ( ° ) symbol is converted to ( % % d ) and makes for some really unprofessional looking drawings or tedious hours of editing text boxes manually.
  8. There are really three ways this can work. You can turn them all off as Dermot suggested or you can turn them off individually for each layout box by suppressing the label, or you can leave them all turned on and use some when you like and just move the others beyond the border of your layout. This has the advantage of providing some information in your view that can keep you organized but not show in your printed drawings.
  9. For the flooring patterns ? I don't see why you could not bring in a properly scaled image and overlay it on there but not sure chief will make that an automatic option any time soon, but for the right presentation it would look pretty cool.
  10. No I don't think so but I have seen some neat stuff done with an Orthographic top view if that is what you are getting at. Unless you wanted to do something really special and import image files into plan view.
  11. The symbol idea was just something you could throw into a new plan file and create an illustration from and maybe send to layout. There may in fact be another way but I am still not exactly sure from your screen shot and description exactly what you need to do. You could wait for a response from someone who has done this for their building department and understands exactly what you need or post your plan file and maybe someone who understands the software well can help you figure out a solution.
  12. Yes I think Glenn is correct and Nvidia has that ability to add ambient occlusion to games so they are more realistic but Chief has developed it's own Ambient Occlusion that does not rely on Nvidia or any number of other video card manufactures.
  13. That sounds like a slightly different problem from the original posting but you could give the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool a try.
  14. Thanks Joe I forgot about that setting. Is that it Larry ?
  15. Yes I made the E6 camera Plan Display Placement as "Both Sides" and broke and staggered the line with the #3 key. It is just behind your original E5 camera callout on the screen shot.
  16. It is a little confusing if you have multiple views open or a multi monitor setup but the camera remains visible if the view is open.
  17. No not a typo. I read the update notes and I am not experiencing any of those issues and forum users are reporting new issues that I just don't want to deal with right now. I don't like to lag behind but sometimes it can be helpful.
  18. Try just using a psoild drawn in elevation view and set your camera to the skewed angle before you start. Or make a symbol of your entire model and rotate the symbol and cut it on the set angle with the Cross Section Slider. I don't fully understand the issue but maybe that gives you a couple more options.
  19. Sounds like you should give tech support a call and see if they know anything. Is it all the settings or just some of them?
  20. Larry are you going through a complete print cycle or just print preview ?
  21. Yes, cross section on the red line "E6" it makes a bit of a mess of the roof but shows all the bedrooms with the kitchen if that is what you were after.
  22. The house is not the same so it won't be exact but you could break the section to get one something like this.
  23. Crop in layout with the layout box or a cad mask.
  24. Some people will say never to paint a wall because it will eventually catch you some time and cause a problem like you have run into. The important thing is to know how to fix it if and when it happens. You can change the material back to the default ( first on the list in plan Materials ) or ( check box at the bottom of the DBX in Library Materials ) and then it should reset and do what you want.
  25. Usually best not to insert your own text into a quote unless you change the text color which can be useful in specific situations. Like if someone was to try to answer all of your original questions at once they could insert the answers in red after each question. Plan Defaults is where you need to go and you can get to Walls > Interior Wall > Wall Covering and then Wall Type > Define > Wall Type Definitions and then select one of your Drywall Layers and double click to get to Plan Materials and edit the General Material color of the Drywall if you don't like the builders beige. This seems to work better than adding a layer because that can cause other issues.
