Unable to open Samples Gallery file "Bachelor View"
Chopsaw replied to shanecarman's topic in General Q & A
Sorry I believe all of the "Batchelor View" files were released as being X12 compatible. Chief files are not backwards compatible. Can you work with the "Stone Creek" files ? What are you goals ? Maybe we can help somehow. Trial version of X12 may be available in the coming months. -
Yes that is the whole point of having 3D modeling software. Even if the railing is not offset the posts don't just sit on the surface of the planking. It may appear that way to the average customer but that is not how it is built. If it does get built that way someone is likely to be sued. Many improvements still needed for decks and railings. It is not difficult to offset your Newels vertically but why not just have them default to the bottom of framing or enter the exact distance you require ?

You can get 3 in X12 but again it is a situation where the chief knows better and if you tell it "0" you get the default 1 1/2" . Sorry you can make it 1/16" but that is not much help. Plenty of room in the Defaults DBX for more settings but I don't see it there.

There are three or four different techniques Joe. It all depends on the structural details. Do you have a screen shot of where you are at or a description ?

Very Nice Justin! Great design, and thanks for sharing your preliminary Matterport results. That may put the fun back into doing as-builts. I believe each location is marked by a ring on the floor as you go to each of those exact locations and look straight down the tripod is blurred out.

You can move it a certain amount by inserting spaces after the text. Although if you are using dimensions below the line they need leading and trailing text to keep it centered as well as leading spaces for the text.

Is there a particular situation where you would be using this as there are some serious accuracy issues to overcome measuring in a Perspective view. We can create a cad detail from view in an Orthographic view and take measurements however you need to be very careful setting the camera view otherwise the measurements have no real relevancy. I suppose you could measure the diameter of a sphere in 3D and maybe a few other things. There are a few tricks to display 2D measurements in 3D views if that is what you are ultimately after ?

I suspect that it is the same. But even if it is please send it in any way as it needs to be fixed somehow.

An inexpensive test would be to double your ram. Check task manager while you are waiting and see if that is the issue. If you have a good processor and an SSD it may just need more ram to give the performance you are after. Especially if you run other apps in parallel with chief. Is your 1060 the 6GB version ?

You may have time to reset and run a 1080p video before morning but I don't want to be the one to make that decision for you.
-
I have been running Xvid even before it was included in the software. It is included in X11 and X12.
-
It looks like you may finish just before your presentation but no guarantees what you will actually have to present. I have rendered over night before but never 72 hours.
-
Video Codec also makes a huge difference.
-
Ok it looks like you don't have a computer performance issue. How about your version of the software ? Are you trying to run an 8K recording ?
-
Need more information if someone is going to try to help. Software ? Walkthrough Settings ? Computer and Video Card Specifications ? It really should not take that long with a reasonably fast computer and moderate settings. Did you do a low quality test recording ?

There should be a bunch in Documents > CA.... Data > Textures

Yes I was not suggesting that it could be all accomplished within Chief. You may need to look elsewhere to convert. Yes I asked about .dae export from chief one time and they sent me here so I know the feeling.
-
Might be possible to convert the .obj to .dae somehow which seems to function fine if all the materials are in the same folder.
-
What version of the software are you using ? Are these stained glass windows that are not in an exterior wall basically ? Made to look like a window by placing lights behind the glass ? Which part is it that is creating the problem ? Maybe a picture would help ?

For anyone who would like an Icon for their Desktop and Toolbar that has some contrast and is more than a couple pixels different than the X11 icon so it can easily be differentiated without having to read the 1/64" text. If you drop the x64 from the title you will not need to reinstall with each succeeding update. Enjoy ! MY CA X12 .ico

Sorry Neil, I have not been using .dae for a while and forgot there is a separate file of textures that chief will put into the same folder you save the .dae to. It is really just a bunch of pictures .jpg and maybe some .png I always thought it just needed to be in the same folder as the .dae but I might be wrong.
-
I have done them with a cabinet if you could use a little extra storage space.
-
If it was Standard view with textures displayed you should be good I would think. Not really sure what quality the Twinmotion .dae files are. I would test by bringing it straight back into Chief. You can actually look at .dae files to compare the data but I would not start with an entire house. Examine a file that is made with a cube that has 6 colors on it and open it with a text editor or ever Note Pad.
-
The textures should be embedded in the .dae file. You could re-import back to an empty chief file to check. What rendering technique did you export from, and were textures turned on ? Not totally familiar with Twinmotion but have a couple of other apps that I could check the file in if you want to post it.

Make a copy of the plan file first using Save As. In fact just the process of dong that sometimes reduces the file size so check that as well.
