  1. In General Plan Defaults there is a setting for "Living Area Labels"
  2. I suppose you will need to PBR with one seat up then.
  3. Likely your _area = owner.area needs to be converted to a float. _area = owner.area.to_f Yup that should do it.... It would be nice if chief could include the line number in the error code..... Oh and number the lines.
  4. Even if you could just take his files and export to Twinmotion or Lumion it likely would not be quick. That is why people charge good money for those services. It would be great to show him what Chief can do but I would not do more than one for free. One would be good experience for both of you.
  5. Zip it a see if you can get it under 25MB. If not delete unnecessary things like terrain and furniture, light fixtures, etc. Or just save it to your cloud account and post the link.
  6. Give it a try. Chief is 3D software. It gives you another confirmation that things are correct. Then you have the 2d plan already done. You should not have any trouble accurately defining the truss envelope with chief with the exception of a few little problems that still need work. If you have issues post them here. I have seen too many 2d plans that have issues. Some can do it but many can not do it with consistency. 3D is just another tool that often show 2d errors quite quickly.
  7. Try exporting just the base cabinets. It could be a vertex limitation maybe.
  8. Something more like this ?
  9. True, they definitely did not get that part worked out properly. It would be great to have a workshop with some of the programmers on these issues but Chief seems to keep them hermetically sealed.
  10. Sorry Rob, I had not looked at the plan file. Gene asked for a lookout for a trussed roof. I gave him a lookout for a trussed roof assuming the build was in Florida. Frankly I am surprised that flat lookouts meet code in Idaho but I believe they are quite common in the south. It was actually my company that made Chief aware that flat lookouts do not meet code in Canada and that was changed in the software. When Gene replied the job was in New York I thought I was clear that I do not use the type of lookout that I had posted for him. I was talking about a theoretical cantilever and not any specific strength comparison. Personally I am more than double 90 psf so I would never build with a flat lookout unless it was engineered that way for some reason. Taking a look at that plan file your suggestion would work fine. I just did not want someone from chief glancing at this a noting that there are several good workarounds for lookouts when there really are not.
  11. Ooops... You may want to convert that one and resave to your library then. Roof Blocking and Lookouts are very different Rob. You can block a small roof overhang but lookouts provide cantilevered support in a way that blocking cannot.
  12. A psolid may be just what you need drawn in elevation view but converting to a symbol sort of locks it if things are final.
  13. Your welcome. Did I get the Florida version correct ? We do them the other way up here.
  14. Sorry I think i was thinking of beams, and maybe if did the roof with a 0 pitch even though I wanted some slope. Symbols may be the way to go.
  15. Yes you just need to make copies of the material and adjust the Offsets for the texture. Screen shot looks great by the way.
  16. Here is an Easter present for you Gene. Hope this works for now as there is a lot that chief needs to look at in the way of roof framing. std. 2x4 lookout.calibz
  17. Do you have any lookouts generating that you can copy ? Or even from another plan file. I have one in my library that is just a little quicker if not.
  18. I think you need two roof planes. I have done it for pergolas but you may run into issues on a real roof.
  19. Like I said the description is a little light as to how auto and manual are handled and if there is a difference. Unfortunately I think it works the same as "Retain Wall Framing" Maybe this helps: Keeping Framing Current When you modify your plan, move walls, raise or lower platforms or redesign the roof, any framing present in the plan will not update to reflect your changes. In order for the framing to be updated, you must regenerate automatically produced framing and either edit or delete and replace manual framing. For this reason, it is recommended that you wait until your model is finished, or nearly finished, before creating framing. See Drawing a Plan. Manual Framing It is vital to remember that manually drawn framing objects and copies of them are not retained when automatic framing is rebuilt. If a plan is not final, therefore, do not spend a lot of time altering or copying automatically produced framing objects. It is best to wait until your design is final before doing manual framing work. Search: Manual vs. Automatic Framing
  20. Help is a little light on the description but I think that is correct. "check Retain Roof Framing to keep the selected roof plane’s framing from being deleted and replaced when roof framing is rebuilt." Pretty sure I have always auto built before doing manual modifications as most of the other things in the program.
  21. Roof Plane Specifications > Structure > "Retain Roof Framing" Might be on ?
  22. It takes a bit of work, sort of like the challenge you are facing. Take a video screen recording. Playback the video. Pause the video. Capture paused video image with another tool like Windows Snipping Tool. Keep us informed as to how you are doing. Once you have a seamless tile pattern put together in Adobe you can save it as a .jpg and then from your User Catalog, right click and then new > material and import the .jpg as your texture source. You may want to click the help button once you are there for information on some of the other settings. Once that is set up in your user catalog in the Library then it can be applied or painted onto the backsplash.
  23. You got it Glenn. I was wracking my brain for a while on that one.
  24. Yes that would be challenging for sure but doable. It would be the same sort of process with a Custom Backsplash or a wall material region or even polyline solids. Otherwise you would need to harvest all of the texture files from the tiles you want to use and then in a photo editor put them together into some sort of a repeating pattern that would look right and could be applied to a single Backsplash.
  25. Try turning off "Auto Rebuild Attic Walls" first in General Wall Defaults and see it that helps calm things down.
