  1. Agree, they may be fearful someone may question some aspect of the design. It should also be considered that most designs are a collaborative effort between the client & the designer and as the client is the one paying it is actually their design. I'd understand if you were designing some concept for a new Apple store, but in this case Apple would have made you sign a nondisclosure agreement. Graham
  2. I can just go on Houzz.com if I want to plagiarize someone else's design work. I've started to participate in this forum knowing that there are many members far more experienced in Chief than I who are more than willing to take some time from their busy work schedule to help. The least I can do is send down a plan when requested to do so. Graham
  3. Took a minute for it to sink in. Got it. There are two types of defaults, Defaults & Dynamic Defaults. Makes a lot of sense though as one (Defaults) defines how a cabinet will first be when placed from the menu and the other (dynamic defaults) also allow you to change a default and have it filter through all placed items that have been set to default (d). It's crazy, I've been using them all the time for 10 years but never really gave it any thought. Maybe they should identify in the Default DBX those that are Dynamic in "Red" just as a reminder. Many Thanks, Graham
  4. Hi Joe - I was wondering if they are identified in the library catalog so you know before selecting the item. Graham
  5. Agree with Dennis and Mick also - check to make sure mouse driver is up-to-date and also vid driver. Graham
  6. Mark - was not aware of this. How does one no which catalog items that have dynamic defaults? Graham
  7. Agree Glenn. Catalog items are not affected by default settings. Cabinets must be chosen from task bar above Build Cabinets. That's why it worked for all of us when we downloaded the test plan. Graham
  8. Maybe we just need the option to pin DBX specifications to the screen. Then we would only have to single click an item and the specs would show. Photoshop has this type of pinning, you can have any number of them up on the screen in any position. Graham
  9. By any chance, in the main cabinet DBX to you have the cabinet Floor to Bottom set at Auto Adjust Height, Use Finish Floor. If not the small molding will be hidden by the floor material thickness. Graham
  10. I think the separate layer as you suggest is the only way to do it. Graham
  11. Reminds me of a client that had a favorite bottle for their Olive Oil so we had to customize a pull-out pantry just for it. Would have been a lot cheaper to just by a new bottle. Graham
  12. When I have the Show All Layers OFF then as you have shown I just click anywhere off of the plan to display everything. Graham
  13. Thanks Larry - I think we should share the points. Your screencast demonstrated exactly what I was trying to say. Really appreciate that. I'm going to have to learn how to do this screencast thing. Many Thanks, Graham
  14. Try the layer settings and set it to display "Layer Set Controls". This will give you a drop down menu for the layer sets. There is a little icon bottom left when you have the active layer display option showing. Graham
  15. I thought that might be the reason. If you build this as individual cabinets & components and then convert to an architectural block then you can move it around freely and the back wall would also show through, no need for a backless cabinet. For a complex piece I usually build it somewhere else in the plan. Copy it and convert to an architectural block then place this in the plan. If I need to make changes I go back to the original and do them there and then replace the block in the plan. I always find it frustrating when making a complex piece within a single cabinet, every time you change the size of an item another item changes. It would be great if we could actually lock items so they would not automatically change when we change an adjacent item. Graham
  16. Not sure about your Chief version but is there not a save as jpg icon in the toolbar left side in the Raytrace window. If you are using the export as jpg under file commands I don't think this captures the Raytrace window. Graham
  17. It's always pretty exciting getting a custom build up and running. Lots of anticipation, especially considering the amount of research and thought that went into this. I think it would be very useful if Chief had a standardized plan that we could use for testing & benchmarking. If we all had this our system results would be relevant and comparable. This could also be used as a trouble shooting tool. Graham
  18. For the time being you may have to do what Glenn did above and export the screen image as a jpg. Then import this back into your layout. Should then print correctly or save as pdf correctly with print in colour turned on. It seems a bit weird though as the usual philosophy is WISWIG "what I see is what I get" and then you have a choice to override this when printing or saving as a pdf through the print in color, print b&w or print greyscale. In theory setting to print in color should print it the way you see it. Graham
  19. Kathleen - Just curious, why do you need to build it as one piece? You can just build it with individual cabinets and components and when finished convert it into an architectural block. Wont it be made in components and then fit together on site. If not it looks like it would be to large to get through a door. Graham
  20. Hi Perry - I played with the thread optimization also and could not see any difference either. Maybe it was doing something but I just can't detect it. I started to have second thoughts on using the older driver so I installed the latest Nvidia with a clean install. System is now running funny, sometimes ok and then other times there is a lag, even with other programs like my browser & Outlook. Just can't get a handle on it. Will go back to my old driver from 2013 for the time being until some more definitive answers become available. Thanks for trying, Graham
  21. Would this do the job? This has all of the functions and properties of a wall cabinet. Just change front doors as usual. This was done by making the cabinet box material 100% transparency. Added left & right side panels 1/16" to make sides solid. Used molding applied top and bottom to make tops & bottom. Graham Open Back Wall Cabinet.calibz
  22. Shouldn't be an issue. A materials texture is separate from it's colour. You should just be able to use that evil paint can and spray it. I have found stained woods the most difficult to accurately represent. Everything is spec'd back to the manufacturers sample. Also, every wood species will take the stain differently and woods with an inherent colour such as Cherry will also influence the stains colour as does the application technique. For cabinetry a sample is either available or we have one made to show that stain on that species of wood, client then signs-off. Graham
  23. Seems to be some confusion on my part. On the main forum the identifier says "Answered" but within the post it says "Best Answer". The forum should be consistent. If it really is Answered then the original poster would be correct as they are indicating that their question has been answered even if it was by them. If it really means "Best" Answer then this is correct but not sure it has the same meaning. Just thought I should clarify my comment above. No intent to question the "Humble" in HumbleChief. Graham
  24. Did you just mark your own answer as "Best Answer" to your own question? I know it was not your intent, but this is not really fair. We could all get a lot of points by just posting questions for which we already know the answer and then posting the answer. On second thought maybe that's not a bad idea!!! Graham
  25. I just use any hardwood flooring from the catalogs and then apply the a finish to it. Not sure there is a need to start with a raw wood. For a really good selection of hardwood flooring try the ones in the Armstrong Manufacture Catalog. For regular sheet type woods I often use the Formica samples. Also some of the cabinet manufactures have raw woods in their catalogs but they are not for flooring. Graham
