To date I've never really cared and the DSL plan we have is the slowest they offer. Its really just been a money saving thing. I guess I always have enough work to do that it doesn't bother me too much to wait a bit. That being said...that grass over there is definitley looking pretty green. Seriously though...ours is starting to turn and we're waking up to frozen water puddles in the mornings.

The number looks slow, but it really doesn't seem all that slow. I also don't download a lot of videos though and any other downloads I have to do I just let run in the background while I'm doing other work. To compare something we all have experience with...it takes I think 20-30 minutes for me to download Chief updates. Thats probably the most notable thing I ever really download very often though. Most documents take several seconds with some large PDF files taking maybe up to a minute. Some larger Chief libraries may take up to 5 minutes.

I'm not unhappy with my internet speed, however my number was about .78 (less than 1) for both download and upload speeds. I know Alaska has the slowest internet speeds in the country on average.

Yep, link on the task bar always gets screwed up for me too with each update (at least since the release of X6). I just replace it every time like the guys above do.

Mick, The third step isn't actually necessary. I believe step 3 just inserts it into the body whereas step 2 just places it at the end of the post.

Confused (Frustrated) With Dimension Font Sizes
Alaskan_Son replied to Nicinus's topic in General Q & A
Are you sure you're changing this number?... -
Good call Glenn. Using a slab you can do anything. Would take much longer in most circumstances but defintley doable.

Come to think of it, only thing you cannot do with the base cabinet is create a spherical shape. Otherwise, forget bathroom… You could build an entire house out of base cabinets. Edit: I'm not by my computer but now that I think about it, pretty sure a spherical shape IS possible.
-
I don't really want to play, but my instinct would be to use a base cabinet as well. It's kind of cheating though because it could be argued that it utilizes a bunch of the disallowed items. In addition to the items above it could be used for the tile, wallcoverings…heck, even the foundation, framing, and drywall could be built out of base cabinets.

Are you referring to this??

Wall Alignment Across Room? Maybe I Have A Setting Wrong?
Alaskan_Son replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
That's an entirely different situation than I was envisioning. Closing an open exterior wall "envelope" I imagine would have different results. Try drawing an abnormal shaped footprint with no common walls like the OP was talking about...divide it with several rooms and then try getting extensions to show several rooms over through the dividing walls. -
Wall Alignment Across Room? Maybe I Have A Setting Wrong?
Alaskan_Son replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
Gotcha. Yes, this is what I was trying to help solve. If you "inference" or "reference" the other wall by "snapping" to it before placing the object you can get the extension line to go THROUGH walls. -
You bet sir

I think your problem is "Casts Shadows = Off" The light is doing as requested and not casting a shadow of the table.

Wall Alignment Across Room? Maybe I Have A Setting Wrong?
Alaskan_Son replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
Hmm...are you sure? Even 3 rooms over? I definitely have to. Extension lines will only show up for me automatically if no other walls are between the wall I'm editing and the wall I'm snapping to. -

Wall Alignment Across Room? Maybe I Have A Setting Wrong?

I too use CAD lines A LOT for these types of things. And for those who don't know, W is the out of the box hotkey for the line tool. -

Alaskan_Son replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
When trying to snap to something so far away you would need to "inference" that point or as I mentioned snap to it first AND THEN go back to the area you're working in to actually place the object (wall in this case). In order to have those extension lines show up when aligning a wall to a parallel wall you may have to use your center mouse wheel or the right button (IOW use a "move" handle). -

I understood what you were trying to do. I don't have chief available to me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure what I said will work. If not, I would probably just use a CAD line or the align tool. -

When moving the wall try dragging it over to the wall you are trying to align it with and let it "snap" to that wall without releasing your Mouse button. Now try to put it where you want it and see if the line shows up that way. -
Create Window Symbol = 3D Is Ok, But 2D Is Not
Alaskan_Son replied to xterix's topic in General Q & A
CAD patch is the only way I know of. Chief will not allow a symbol to be truly inserted into a wall yet. You can adjust the origin of your custom symbol and it will slide into the window "cutout" but no matter what you do the associated CAD block will only attach TO the wall and not INTO the wall like Chief's native window symbols do. Definitely needs to be fixed. -
You know, I think the lack of a curtain wall tool is one of the only reasons some architects don't use Chief.

We have used a lot of engineered scissor trusses over the years and the interior pitch has always been half of the exterior pitch. We also typically have a lot of snow load to account for though too.
-
No probelm. That sink works fine on most cabinets and countertops, but for whatever reason (probably something having to do with the order in which you built things), the sink is inserted into the top base cabinet and not the countertop (thus the origin discrepency). If you explode your symbol and replace the custom countertop it works just fine. It works just fine if you don't use a custom countertop as well.
-
You need to adjust the origin of the sink symbol to approx. -8 1/16"
