  1. In the future, just bear in mind it took a lot of guesses to give you an answer that may have only taken one had your posted a plan. Not trying to be rude, its just a fact.
  2. Andrew, I think most (but not all) of us use Nvidea gaming cards as they seem to be the most stable with Chief. I have had zero problems with either of the cards in my signature line, and honestly don't notice much of a difference between the 2.
  3. You should probably attach a plan. You will almost always get a much quicker more accurate response that way.
  4. Does it AUTOMATICALLY save as a DWG though?
  5. Thanks Joey, that information is super helpful.
  6. I could be wrong, but I think DWG is a proprietary file extension. I don't think you'll find any non-AutoDesk products that will automatically save as DWG. I believe DraftSight DOES offer a purge tool though and for what it's worth, it was actually AutoCAD users who recommended DraftSight to me a while back as a nearly identical AutoCad clone.
  7. Check out DraftSight. Haven't used it myself, but heard and read only good things. It sounds like a company who just has it in for AutoDesk so they offer basically the same product for free.
  8. I think the only way is to have them export the entire model as a "family" (Chief's version of a "symbol") and then import that into Chief. It wouldn't be all that useful though. It would be much like a giant symbol in Chief, you could explore it, but it wouldn't be very intuitive to work with. It would also have to be exported from Revit in a 3D file type that Chief can import. Otherwise, it would have to be run through a file convertor or possibly through Sketchup.
  9. Thanks for the input guys. I think I got it now. Am I correct that I only really need to backup entire plan if one computer doesn't have some of the materials/textures?? Other than that, simply saving and transferring the plan file should suffice??
  10. I haven't checked my laptop, but I just tested my PC and it only takes 7 seconds to launch help.
  11. I don't think most of us are having the issues you are. I'm running X6 just fine on my PC and laptop, and most others I know are having no problems either.
  12. They actually all seem to work for me. Some of them...I think just the undermount styles... don't show too well unless I generate a 2D block of the symbol. Can you attach the plan and I'll see if it works for me?
  13. I see what the difference was...The first time I turned on the Cabinet, Countertop layer also. The second time I turned on only the Cabinet, Base layer.
  14. No, I was wrong. Turning on CAD, Default doesn't work. It works for me if I turn on the Cabinet, Base layer though. First time I tried, the sink was barely visible. 2nd time it worked just fine though. Not sure what the difference was.
  15. Not sure how much this will help, but I believe the sink is on the CAD, Default layer (unless you changed it), so that layer must be turned on in the reference display set.
  16. Wow, 8 cores too. I wonder if perhaps you don't have some extraneous programs running all the time or if something is using up a bunch of your memory. Do you run any CPU, RAM, or processor speed meters to see what your computer is doing at any given moment??
  17. After looking back at this initial post I'm wondering if perhaps you don't have the Intel Turbo boost activated. You say your PC is 3.4GHz...correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is a 3.4GHz processor. Only a 2.4 that can reach 3.4 with turbo boost activated. The laptop may actually be faster if the turbo boost is activated on that. Just a thought.
  18. Is there a quick and easy way to copy the entire library?? I don't like the mess of creating a library for every plan (although that may only be an issue in my head with no basis in reality...not sure). I also don't want to end up with a whole ton of duplicate items. What I have on the laptop so far is the core content and that's about it.
  19. Thanks Texian, I've considered syncing using a similar approach to what you've mentioned, however I would really prefer to do it without using the internet or any cloud based services. Getting an internet connection isn't always an option for me either.
  20. I recently bought a laptop to run Chief while at the jobsite. Its the first time I've had more than one computer for the task. Until recently I've always used just one PC at the office. How do the rest of you handle transferring plan files back and forth?? The whole "Backup Plan" thing is confusing to me. I don't understand if and/or why backing up EVERYTHING is necessary. Also don't know what the second "Backup Plan" option does (the one that DOES NOT backup EVERYTHING. It seems to just save the plan?? All I need to accomplish at this point is to be able to pass plans back and forth without any hitches as simply as possible. Would always be working on one computer or the other, and never on both at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Does it look like this?? If so, this is how it has always been for me as far as I can remember anyway.
  22. I personally paste it into Paint where I can crop it and make notations.
  23. I personally don't use the material list but, if it's anything like schedules… it will no longer update once converted to text. Also, if you must choose to GENERATE material list it would seem that it would not be an auto update type thing. What's the problem with just regenerating the list once you're ready??
  24. Just to clarify… you are referring to a material list and not a schedule right?
