  1. I apologize, I may have given you bad information. I am away from my computer and I was going off of memory. I thought there was the option to include architectural blocks as electrical items but now I remember that there isn’t. My bad. I guess it’s only the second option that will work for you.
  2. Yes. There are at least two ways… 1. Block the object and set the block to be included in the electrical schedule. EDIT: Nevermind, this one doesn’t work for electrical objects. 2. Convert To Symbol and set the new symbol to be an electrical item.
  3. ...OR, if you want to simply edit the object(s) and stay in the schedule, you can click Open Row Object(s). This one is very well suited for keynotes.
  4. Try Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing>Ventilation>Registers
  5. By the way, based on my experience, I don't think there is any way the Auto Story Pole system is ever going to work completely right for more than about 3 people. Some people need 2 or more different groups of dimensions that reference entirely different elevation datums, some people need to reference finish grade (which can obviously vary around a single lot), some people need to reference sea level, some people need o reference a high water mark or flood plane, some people actually change their base marker from one floor to the next for certain items, some people want to measure to the bottom of header while others want to measure to the top of glass, etc. etc. I personally just wish we were given x and y locations as Ruby attributes for Markers (and other CAD based objects) so I could use macros to address some of these variable needs.
  6. I think the type of functionality we're discussing here in this thread is really most important to people who are building at or near sea level and close to the ocean. I still say its easy enough to manually drag off a new marker to get what Scott was originally after. The conversation and general requirements seemed to have morphed a bit though.
  7. That is the method Scott was using in the first post. The problem with that one (and what triggered this thread in the first place) was that he couldn't get the Grade Level Marker to automatically generate up higher.
  8. Either turn ON the “Walls, Main Layer Only” layer, or turn OFF the “Walls, Layers” layer. One of those 2 should give you what I think you’re after.
  9. See if this helps you out Richard... It was made pretty specifically in response to an issue in another thread, but hang in there, I think it's worth a watch anyway. Here's that other thread though for what it's worth...
  10. Try unchecking “Make Ceilings Black In Ray Trace Views”. If that doesn’t work try giving the fine people here a little more to work with...a Backup File, a plan file, a screenshot...ANYTHING.
  11. That requirement has been in there for quite some time now and you are not misunderstanding it. It's really pretty ridiculous for a lot of situations IMO and needs some serious reworking. I don't have a copy of the code commentary but it was explained to me by an inspector years ago that the requirement was there due to wind loads and after doing a little more research, I came to the conclusion that he was absolutely correct. The idea was that we needed to replace all the studs being eliminated by the header span with half of the studs going to one side, and half to the other. Some jurisdictions have specifically amended the code so that it only applies to walls over a certain height, and the ICC itself is addressing it to a certain extent with some notable changes in the 2018 IRC. They have basically eliminated the requirement for regions with wind-speeds under 115 mph. I'm not sure whether or not they made any changes with regard to wall height though.
  12. Scott, To get your elevation markers to show up over on the right, just open that dimension string, click on the Extensions/Markers tab, and check Draw Elevation Marker for each of the desired Extensions.
  13. Same as you do on Tuesdays...unless it Wednesday...in which case you have to do it like we do on Thursdays. Just don’t expect the same results twice.
  14. I'm about to step out of the office and don’t have time to give you a good answer, but if you want a good answer, it might help if you were to clarify the following: Are you wanting to modify the model, the material list, or both? Exactly WHY do you need to do so? How do you intend to use the information? There are several possible solutions depending on your answers to the above, but the easiest is probably simply to utilize some of the Material List and Structural Member Reporting capabilities. You can also modify the 3D model itself or use schedules though. It really depends on what you're after and how you intend to use the information.
  15. There are a few methods that work, but I think the easiest is to simply overlap 2 views in layout...use different layer sets for each view. Set one of the views to "Show Color" and the other to not "Show Color".
  16. I think what Lew is saying is that he wants to download every last item Chief has available...consequences be damned. Do I want it? Who cares, DOWNLOAD IT! Do I need it? Who cares, DOWNLOAD IT! Do I have room for it? Who cares, DOWNLOAD IT! Do I already have (perhaps under a different name even)? Don’t worry about it, DOWNLOAD IT! Will it take 12 hours and trigger an overage on my internet usage? Ummm...screw it, DOWNLOAD IT ANYWAY!! I guess if we were given the option that might be okay, but I don’t know who in their right mind would want that much library bloat. I probably don’t have but 10% or 20% of the available bonus libraries myself and my library is already bordering on unmanageable. The LAST thing I want is that other 80% of the available libraries that I don’t currently want or need.
  17. How accurate do you need it to be? There is a stacked version in 3D Warehouse that could be chopped down pretty easily. If you can’t find what you’re after, shoot me an email. It wouldn’t be free, but I would be happy to either modify that symbol or model you one from scratch for a fee.
  18. Yes, very confusing posts and plan. Only thing I would add as that depending on what you really mean, you may also try to select the desired object(s) and Bring Forward or Bring To Front (Drawing Group).
  19. You're welcome. And I'm always open to taking on a little Chief related work as time permits. I'm typically too busy to take on any large scale projects due to the fact I stay pretty busy with our own in-house stuff, but I do a good handful of side projects for people such as custom symbols, custom macros, custom fonts, custom hatch patterns, custom tutorial videos, and a number of other small but complicated modeling and drafting type things. Anyway, please feel free to shoot me an email if you ever need help and we can take it from there. My email address is alaskansons@gmail.com
  20. Okay. Here you go... salmon town_bldg2.2.14. after good flip.plan
  21. I would personally do that with primitives...probably a polyline solid or a solid with the structural components tucked neatly inside.
  22. Label tab of the schedule...uncheck Display as Callout (or whatever it’s called).
  23. I would really really encourage you to jump to X10. You don’t want to “upgrade” to an outdated tool. You’ll be missing out on a lot of valuable new features. Maybe you can find an X8 version for sale and then just upgrade. That way you’ll have both. Anyway, if you can’t find a copy of X8, it wouldn’t take all that long for one of us to move all your projects forward to X10 for you. I imagine I could do it in under a minute each if you hired me to do them all (or at least a large chunk at a time). Who knows, it might even go a lot faster than that.
  24. The OP is correct. X8 was the last version that could open pre-v10 files. In order to use those files in X10, a person has to first open and save in s pre-X9 version.
