  1. Hey, whaddya know...4 ways. You can also do the same thing by using the right mouse button...so I guess that's 5 ways.
  2. At least 3 ways to do this: Hold down the X key (resize edit mode) while dragging one of the corners Group select the view by either marquis selecting, holding down Control, or holding down Shift; and then use the single edit handle to resize. Use Transform/Replicate and resize that way.
  3. This really kind of depends on the symbol of course and on what you are trying to accomplish. If for example a symbol has the junction box included, it would probably be best to leave a y offset; and if you would like to place the height based on the center of fixture or j-box then you might also want to leave a Z offset as well. Regardless of your intentions though, you would likely want to at least double check the offsets and adjust as/if necessary.
  4. In addition to the above, it can also be as simple as just placing the fixture onto a wall, selecting it, clicking Open Symbol>Options, changing it to Floor Mounted, and then moving it to wherever you want it.
  5. Actually, this is also possible in X8 as well. Just takes a couple custom macros. Shoot me an email if you're interested and I can help you set it up. It wouldn't be free, but it also shouldn't take all that long. I would just need to see how you have your cabinet labels and schedule(s) set up. Quick example done in X8...
  6. What you're seeing are NOT temporary dimensions. They are dimensions you have placed onto different layers. Switch to your All On layer set and you should see what I'm talking about. The thing is that with Temp Dims turned on, Chief will display any and all relevant dimensions when you select an object...even if that particular layer is turned off.
  7. Not sure if you ever got this sorted or not but i took a quick glance at you plan and I think in that particular situation you may be better off putting your terrain and retaining walls onto the floor below.
  8. Here...I just did it on purpose somehow... ...not totally sure how though. It was some combination of copying, point to point moving, and panning. I'll try to see if I can do it again when I have a little more time.
  9. I've been seeing this a lot lately too. Just haven't found the time to report anything. Whats even more annoying is that sometimes I'm getting the "ghost" of the seemingly selected object where it no longer exists. "I see dead things. They don't even know they're dead" I think it has something to do with panning because every-time it has happened I have the little high five icon stuck on for a little while.
  10. You can use the Rotate Plan View tool.
  11. Windows and their 2D blocks really kinda stink and they always have. Prior to X10 I started handling this by converting windows into normal symbols and then cutting away the wall layers using material regions and modified framing. If you are using X10 though, I would recommend converting to a normal symbol and then using the new Inserts Into Wall option.
  12. I think what you're referring to was an entirely different toggle called "Modify NAME In All Layer Sets" and yes it caused problems. It also had some pretty unique benefits too. Among other things, it was that particular feature Chief used in the past to allow a layer set that used AIA naming conventions.
  13. Yes. That's exactly what Annotation Sets were designed to do.
  14. Yeah, I could be totally off-course. I may have misunderstood the question. Wouldn't be the first time.
  15. You can also try using terrain breaks and elevation points. Just make sure to only use a single elevation point between each terrain break
  16. Just an educated guess but I’d be willing to bet she is using the same Plan View, making adjustments, and sending to layout. If a layout box is referencing a Plan View then it will change anytime that plan view is changed. Ideally you should either set the referenced PlanVview to “None” or you should be using different Plan Views for each view sent to layout.
  17. P.S. You posted this thread in totally the wrong place. It belongs in the General Q&A section.
  18. You have Automatically Regenerate Deck Framing unchecked for that room. You must have built a deck in that area before with that setting turned off (either on purpose or by mistake). Chief remembers prior room settings for any given area of the plan. This behaviour is super useful but also leads to confusions like this sometimes.
  19. You might also try a molding symbol.
  20. You could probably save yourself a ton of time and money by using Ruby to do most of this for you. If you don't know how, I think it would still be worth it to consider hiring me or someone else to help set something up for you. A few hours of my time and you may never have to run most of the manual calculations again. Just a thought.
  21. I find the quickest way to deal with materials is usually using the Plan Materials dialog. You can either modify the material directly through that dialog and then click Add To Library, OR, if you've already modified a material in your plan, you can first use the object eyedropper to select your material and then switch to the material painter tool. If you go this route, all you have to do is click on the Plan Materials tab and your previously selected material will already be highlighted.
  22. I haven't used X5 in quite a long time so I can't tell you definitively, but I don't believe there was any way to do that prior to X9. Now we have a default setting for the drawing group. If you use Chief regularly for a living, I would really recommend you upgrade. There's a lot you're missing out on.
  23. Note that Chief uses XOR drawing to affect the display of both: Objects on the reference floor with respect to other objects on the reference floor Objects on the current floor with respect to objects on the reference floor ...but does not affect the display of objects on the current floor with respect to other objects on the current floor. Try drawing some additional objects on the attic level in the plan above to explore this a bit. In my personal opinion, I kinda think Chief should at least give us the option to use XOR drawing strictly in scenario #2 mode. Actually, this is what seems to be the most natural way to set it OOB.
