  1. I don't think you can count on someone from Chief reading this. They have said in the past that they don't have people to read all of the posts on all of the forums. I know they have moderators that seem to respond pretty quick when you report spam but I don't even know if they look at other posts. I also know that the "sticky" post at the top of this forum says to always send in bug reports and not just post on the forum. So here is my take on this, they added a new feature in X16 that you find is making it more difficult to do some things and you would like a way of turning it off. Is that a bug since the feature doesn't work the way you think it should? Or is that a new feature request to add the ability to turn it off? I think it's up to you to decide what you think it is and report it accordingly. Chief may not agree with you, but at least you know they would have the report. If you think it's a bug, you can report it to tech support here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/ If you think it's a feature request, you can post it here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/forum/8-suggestions/ Or email them here: suggestions@chiefarchitect.com
  2. Not sure why that is happening but you could either turn off the fill in your wall type or hide it with a "wall hatch".
  3. You should be able to setup your own wall type to do this. Just take a look at the settings under wall properties. You can specify which layer is used for dimensions and foundation alignment.
  4. Did anyone ever report this to Chief? If not, you might be waiting for a while. I kinda doubt they are going to put out any more updates for X16 this late.
  5. Add a "complete break" to the stair and then you can make one part wider than the other.
  6. There may be nothing really "wrong" with your layout file because you have may have done something that is causing the problems. A 3 GB layout file is ridiculously large and even a 150 MB file is probably much bigger than you need. I just downloaded one of Chief's new sample layout files (the Saguaro) and the 21 page layout that has lots of pretty pictures and details is only 65 MB. The largest layout file I have is less than 30 MB and most of them are even less than 15 MB. If I was to make a guess, I would bet that you imported a lot of stuff that is taking up all that space. Importing things like high res pictures and pdfs and setting them to "save in plan" can cause layouts to get really bloated really fast so that's the first place I would look. The other thing that it might be would be imported cad details being stored in your layout. So before I would start the layout over, or spend any money upgrading my hardware, I would spend some time to figure out what is taking up all that space. Then you might be able to figure out a better way to solve these problems.
  7. Did you change the foundation settings in the defaults but forget to rebuild the foundation? Is your siding dropping down and overlapping your foundation wall? Check the "extension" in the wall type layers. Did you edit the top of the foundation wall? Check to see if it is set to use the default heights. If it's not one of those, you might want to post the plan.
  8. See if this helps: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00521/troubleshooting-slowness-in-chief-architect-plans.html
  9. My fillers go away as soon as I turn them off in the "included categories". See picture below. Maybe you aren't turning them off in the right place? For example, if you turn them off in your cabinet schedule defaults, it won't change any of your schedules that are already in your plan. Or maybe you have more than one cabinet schedule and you are changing the wrong one. Or maybe you changed the filler to be included in the schedule as a normal cabinet instead of as a filler which should be the default. Probably a bunch of other things that might cause this as well. So rather than use some kind of "work-around", post your plan and then someone can tell you exactly why it isn't working for you.
  10. Post a picture of what you have and then explain how you are "manually entering" the wall length (as in opening the dialog to specify the length or clicking on which one of the dimensions). Also, if you haven't already checked out the "quick start" video series, it might be worth your time: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/138/quick-start-video-series.html
  11. Try this: - select the door you want to change. - click on the "marquee select similar tool" - click on the "restrictive selection" mode - now draw a marquee over the whole plan and you should only get doors that are the same type You could also make a door schedule and then remove most of the columns but add the "type" column (so that all your doors are grouped and sorted by door type) and then use the "open row objects" tool.
  12. See picture below. All I did was make my gable fascia 4" which is much smaller than my roof thickness causing the gap.
  13. Maybe your fascia is smaller than your roof structure.
  14. "Wall coverings" have no thickness and I have never found a way to set one. "Wall material regions" and "custom backsplashes can have whatever thickness you want.
  15. These things are probably all very easy to fix. I don't think I have ever had a case where one of the schedules did not include something that wasn't my fault. - Skylights not listed. Skylights won't show up in the window schedule by default. You have to open the window schedule and tell it that you want it to include the skylights. This also depends on whether you used the skylight tool or placed skylight symbols. - Some windows in an attic space not listed, but one next to it was. The window may not be included in the schedule or it could be a floor/room problem or even something else. If you post the plan, someone could probably figure it out very quickly. - Some doors not listed or some interior door listed as exterior (and vice versa) I think doors are marked as either interior or exterior depending on where you first placed them. This also depends on your room definitions. Moving the door around or changing your rooms won't change what the door was first marked as. - Windows in a room with vaulted ceilings not listed. Again, this could be a lot of different reasons and you could post the plan if you want a better answer.
  16. Check to see if the layer they are on is turned on in the layer set you are using for your elevation view. By default, elevation views use a different layer set than the other camera views.
  17. Do you have "auto rebuild terrain" turned off? If you do have it turned off, you might not see any terrain in a camera view until you rebuild it manually. And if you do rebuild it manually, it will be out of date any time you make any changes unless you manually rebuild it again. You should also see a special cursor that looks like hills with trees on it if you have auto rebuild turned off. If it's not that, then you might want to post your plan.
  18. I don't think you can do that automatically, at least not very easily. I would probably just generate the living area polyline and manually edit it to exclude the exterior walls. You might be able to get it to work automatically by temporarily changing the exterior walls to have a zero thickness wall type or by messing around with the main layer but this might create all kinds of other problems. Here is a tech article about the living area that might help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00424/understanding-how-the-square-footage-or-living-area-is-calculated.html
  19. Just an FYI, I don't think many people would actually use a gable line in that corner situation. I didn't even know that was a thing until I saw your post so I guess even old dogs can still learn new tricks. Personally, I would either draw invisible walls or railings, especially if I was going to have a slab floor or I wanted some posts to support the roof. You could also manually edit the roof in just a couple of steps to get that. Good for you on figuring out that it was a bug and reporting it though.
  20. I think all you need to do is pick a profile for your shadow board and then set the width and height. If you do this in the "build roof" dialog, then it will be set for all new roof planes (but not existing ones unless you have auto rebuild turned on). Also, it may be hard to see them if you have gutters turned on and the shadow board is behind them.
  21. See if your exterior room has a wall covering applied to it. If not, then you might want to post your plan.
  22. I think you can get what you want by just drawing a beam and then just placing posts with footings along it. See picture below as an example. Here is a video that coverts some foundation basics: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/321/crawlspace-foundation-with-framed-bearing-wall.html
  23. You should be able to keep running X12 as long as you want and as long as your computer is able to. What you can't do is take any of your new plans done in X16 and then open them back up in X12.
  24. Try using elevation regions. I find they are way easier than using elevation points and lines.
  25. There are a number of videos here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/120/remodeling.html
