I had similar problems with X12 to X13 imports of Dimension Defaults as did several Clients , so in the end had to abandon that method and built new Defaults ( and Templates) in X13 , so this is bad news, as it looks like it was never fixed. Mick.

Try saving to a Client Folder, on you local computer, not your Chief Archive which appears to be out on a Network Drive somewhere or perhaps iCloud or OneDrive?...... M.

Real Time Ray Tracing Questions/Problems/Solutions
Kbird1 replied to kgschlosser's topic in General Q & A
Yes the View OPENS in a few seconds as stated in the Video perhaps even less with a 3080 or higher, that it not the same as being Crisp and Clean, i.e. near "Photo Realistic", no Fire Flies etc, as KGS expects, that takes thousands of Samples and is 1 - 2 mins or even longer, even on a 3080Ti, I'd hate to think what today's Gamers would be saying if things were this slow in any modern Game 3D engine..... for example Unreal 4 ( or 5 now ) is beautiful. * just as a note ... doing some recent testing, my 3080Ti is about 50% faster than my Laptop's 2070s in the same plan / Camera / No# of samples etc, however the Final Image is NO different. The 1st thing I noticed in the X14's What's New Presentation was no mention whatsoever of Improvements to the Astral 3D Engine..... I had my fingers crossed X14 would fix some of the Issues I have in X13, but sadly no, and the last Update to x13 has even brought back the (Surface?) Triangles in Layout Boxes too so I expect to see them in X14 as well. This is from today....in X13 ......... Layout Elevation Camera I have also been complaining about the "graininess" since we got RTRT, 1st thing I noticed in the Video mentioned above actually, I was disappointed then and still am having spent thousands on dollars on new Hardware and in some cases the OpenGL in X12 looked better...... it has not improved since Day 1, so as you can imagine I can see some of this from KGS's point of View. And I think everyone here is well aware of Chief's "Memory Leak(s)" and the need to shutdown and restart etc when things "get weird", so conspiracy theories aside some of what is said above is quite true. Chief has this Support article on Intel Chips but I am not familiar with the Iris Cards myself , are you using the Latest Intel Drivers? ( try the Intel DSA perhaps ) https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03108/supported-intel-graphics-chipsets.html Mick

So use a couple of the Ranch brackets from the library and a Roof plane drawn manually along the garage Door Wall. You might need to lower it down as well? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/25/drawing-roofs-manually.html?playlist=95 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00634/raising-or-lowering-a-roof-plane.html M.

backdrop shows grey when no backdrop selected in PBR
Kbird1 replied to SHCanada2's topic in General Q & A
Sure give us 1/2 the story ( in layout not camera) and let us guess how about these settings...... -
Yep could be indeed , not whatt I'd call a Portico like you but maybe ... So a couple of the Ranch brackets from the library and a manual Roof plane then. Mick.

Yes (regional maybe), sounds like what some might call an Arbor, Trellis or Pergola Link.......Like this : Mini Tutorial: https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00889/creating-a-custom-pergola.html

I don't use duotone much myself but as far as I know it is basically a desaturated STD View and those controls effect Duotone too as does the brightness and angle of the Sunlight ( ie Sun follows Camera )

tile is one of the trickier things to change, you can't easily change grout colors for example. Tip: 2D uses Patterns 3D uses Textures ( pics ) A good place to start if you have Questions is the Knowledgebase ( KB) which has many mini-tutorials , you can even download a PDF if you want too. for example : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01006/customizing-a-library-material.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01124/message-the-material-appears-to-have-an-incorrect-pattern.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00767/creating-a-new-material.html there is also a Video https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/10145/creating-custom-tile-materials.html?playlist=170 M.

backdrop shows grey when no backdrop selected in PBR
Kbird1 replied to SHCanada2's topic in General Q & A
The Background can go grey if the Sunlight is maxed out eg 100,000 lumens and a background is not used. M. -
Two different Stair Layers should work? eg put 3rd floor stairs on their own layer perhaps, and turn the lower floor off in this view M.

What is the top of the foundation wall....concrete or sill plate?
Kbird1 replied to Ed_Orum's topic in General Q & A
I remove the Floor from the garage Room and draw a Polyline Solid in elevation to get the slope when needed , you can also break it through Door openings in Plan view which is another Bonus. M. -
Ruby is Chief's Programming Language used for Macros , Chief includes many premade ones accessed through the M in the Label tab, but thier are a number of Forum Members who do Custom Macros though for this you should be able to specify your wanted label and start a Folder in your User Library for Andersen Windows and use them from there instead. * Chief's Auto Labels usually round up

Unfortunately I have many of the same issues in X14 as X13 , eg the lockup on Saving, plus every plan and layout askes me to replace the Font when opened? Why???
-
You can't delete System Layers ( or accidentally renamed System Layers ) check in the ALDO to see if it has an S in the USED Column. M.

In Plan or Layout? In Layout I use the %Layout Title% Macro which you can edit to whatever you want it to say but am not sure if you can make it Blank

Typically the Nahimic issue is related to Multiple Monitor Use and the Fix is here :

Yes quite a few and many threads on X13's Issues , if running Win 11 , Nvidia's drivers were supposed to help but I am on Win10 and am still seeing issues as of last Thurs. with Video and even had a plan Corrupted on Fri. but X13 when I changes floors.... Just some examples........... X13 is such a joy to work in.......... as I am sure @robdyck will attest to , he also has an Alienware 3080 , I don't.

Great , I was just looking for the Old Way to do Tray Ceilings PDF incase you or someone else needed it , I posted it above. Mick.

haven't looked at plan but "auto trey ceilings" do not like invisible walls/Room Dividers, which it appears you have between the two areas. In that case I use a P.Solid with a Hole for the Tray instead, with the Room's Ceiling set to the Higher height. M. I think you'd need to use different Roads for each size Curb as I think you can only set one in the Road's DBX > Curb Tab , not each side to different Sizes or no curb at all. Might even be easier to turn the Road Curbs off and to use a Molding line/polyline for different sizes as a molding line will also let you turn the "selected edge Off " where needed.

Kbird1 replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
