It works well in basements , which is what I think it was developed for originally but as Double Walls and extra thick Insulation have become more mainstream it can be useful for that too , if making you own Wall definitions isn't working like it should or brings other issues, like with window and door Frames/Jambs sometimes. M.

Windows 10 does have it's own "Click-Lock" option in the Mouse Options ( Control Panel), and it does work in X9 but I personally don't like it in the rest of Windows so don't use myself but I think you could get used to it if that's how you like to work.... M.

+ is a shifted key (shift=) on the normal keyboard , so I think it is setup to use the NUM PAD by default actually but you can set your own hot keys too. I find I can zoom in with the mouse wheel while dragging etc if needed with no issues.....maybe i misunderstand what you are trying to do though? M.

Yes ,,, but @ChiefWorkhorse didn't seem to understand you or the use of that tool so I posted an easier method since not everyone is as adept as you with the Manual Tools ... M.

you can use the Gable over Window ( Opening) Tool for that situation ( its not a Dormer really), if need be make the windows larger and even mull them together temporarily , build the Gable and then un-mull / resize the windows as needed. The Gable seems to remember the Original size at least in my test plan.... M.

Thick exterior Walls are likely going to use a Double Wall assembly , and you can use Chief's Furred Walls Option I think for that by adding an AirGap Layer to the Outside of the Inner Wall similar to what Joe mentioned.... in whatever thickness you need to make the needed depth and push it against the Outer wall. see the tutorial below.... whether you want "Innie" Windows or "Outie" windows is more about Design Aesthetics / location than anything else eg are you in AZ or NM and want deep set windows to reduce heat infiltration or are you in ME or CT and want to maximise Light and perhaps have Window Seats. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00181/creating-furred-walls.html http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/cad/how-detail-exterior-insulation-existing-house-building-plans-deep-energy-retrofit http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/cad/high-r-value-walls-building-plans-double-stud-wall-construction

Please fill in your Forum Signature , see mine below for how.......so we know what version of Windows etc you are using ...Win10? It looks like it maybe a Windows Scaling Issue perhaps? X9 has a new setting in Preferences > Appearances>toolbars>button size which allows resizing of the Icons... there is also the checkbox to allow scaling or not M.

My guess is CA is well aware of the issues and likely the next CA X9 update will address it , hopefully anyway , since it has been some time since the last one , but I suspect that is because it appears they will show X10 in Jan. at the Builder's Show. ( see chat forum ) and I am sure that is where they are focused currently. The issues seem worse for those using Laptops , so I'd make sure I was using the correct version if I had a laptop, ie the notebook Driver. I was using 388.71 earlier this week but didn't spend enough time in X9 to notice any errors with the Holidays, so I can't say if they are good or not? but in my informal testing the 388 series are no faster than the 382 or especially 385.12 or 385.69 , so I am back on 385.12 currently but had used 385.69 up until trying the 388 Series. Here are the direct links if you want to test them ..... 385.69 Desktop (Sept.21) http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/123936/en-us 385.12 Desktop (July31) http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/121776/en-us 385.69 Notebook http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/123938/en-us 385.12 Notebook http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/121778/en-us

Posting a "bad" plan and a "good" one may help someone pinpoint the issue for you, just make sure the Plan is closed when you attach it to the Forum Reply box in the light grey area or it won't let it attach since Chief locks the file while in use. Just blurry text in Layout ? Is this just in the Printed (PDF?) Output or on screen? Have you checked that you are sending to Layout on the Same Scale? ie 1/4=1ft are you using Layout Line Scaling ? PS . it's also a good idea on the Forum to fill in your Signature ( see mine for how) so People know who you are and what Version you are currently using.

Other than the Annual 1 week Sale , usually Dec. 22-29 ( on now) https://www.chiefarchitect.com/offers/ the only other thing I am aware of is the Academic/ Student License. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/academic/ -
1st, Apologies to those who read the start of this in the other Thread , I thought whatever info I could get may help others in the future but they may not find it buried in that another Post. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16243-mystery-materials/?do=findComment&comment=136635 My current Template was started in X7 and so I wanted to rebuilt my Template Plan Starting with a Clean Profile.Plan but I don't want to reinstall X9, to get a Clean Profile Plan, in case it messes something else up by setting everything back to CA's OOB ( Out Of the Box) settings again...... eg Preferences, Defaults etc. . Chief does not provide a Download of just the Default Templates that come with CA X9 unfortunately, So I Contacted Support per Dermot's suggestion in the Other thread and they have provided me with the Default Imperial and Metric Profile Plans , which I have renamed, so you can place them in your Data\Templates Folder without overwriting anything you have in their now. I have Zipped them both into one file for download here : CA Default Profile Plans.zip Now about Making a New Template from Scratch using these files , what can be re-imported without possibly messing up a "Clean Profile.Plan" or re-introducing possible Problems ? Anno Sets Layers Sets Macros Wall Definitions Toolbar Configs HotKeys Line Styles anything else ? or none of the above ? I am thinking Importing the Defaults would possibly be a bad idea , but I am thinking about all the work in there like Text Styles etc , or are they included with the Annosets or Layersets anyway? or is there no point importing them without the Defaults? I am curious what others have discovered and if there is a "Best Practice" for this since CA suggests redoing it with every new version of Chief. There is some good information in several KB Articles but I am hoping for some good Info from other Forum Users too : Plans https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00463/creating-and-using-a-plan-template.html Layouts https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03018/setting-up-layout-template-pages.html Thanks, Mick

He got his Model working and it looked pretty good..... he just had to go through and edit his materials more carefully as Chief loads 60+ default ones I think he said ?. SketchFab is apparently considering raising the Limit for free Users since more small Architecture and Design Firms are a starting to use it... M.
-
Clive ( @renosud ) was explaining in the Mystery Materials Thread that that happens on SketchFab when you have too many materials for SketchFab to handle in the file ...ie over 100 but I don't know SketchFab myself to help much, check out his Post.....

I have a Bosch one , but my Model is not compatible with Chief , there is a limited list of those that are, so look into it carefully if you want that functionality , as I think bluetooth is a min. requirement for that. M.

I would suggest copying the Stock Copper Polished Material too your User Library , renamed it Shiny Copper and then do the material definition Change on it in the library so you will always have it to reuse and can try different looks..... M.

The Knowledge Base is very handy for info if you are new to CA..... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03007/using-the-active-layer-display-options.html and the new Tutorial guide is worth getting and going through too... https://cloud.chiefarchitect.com/1/pdf/documentation/chief-architect-current-tutorial-guide.pdf

Eric is refer to the Display Layers Option or the ALDO (Active Layer Display Options) which I normally have open on the side to turn "layers" on and off in Views as needed, anything will a RED Cross is ON (seen) in the view, it is a very powerful feature, as is using Custom Layers. The ALDO is available for ALL views in Chief via the View Menu. M.

Then I would try what Joe suggested below.... except backwards......bring everything from the Profile Plan into the existing Drawing..... I have used it before this way to bring in different things from different Plans, to try new Templates and is fairly Quick to do. Just try it with a Save As version of your Existing Plan , keeping the Original safe.

Hi thanks Dermot , I am not 100% sure if I have altered the one in the Programs folder , it is different size from the one in My Data folder though ( and it is a different size than the one posted by JJ too) that was why I was trying to find out the File Size etc of a "clean" Profile.Plan File. But I may have accessed and accidentally saved it ( Used Save icon , instead of Save As Icon), after accidentally altering the one in the Data Folder too, while doing a test plan, helping here on the Forums. Mick.

Thanks JJohnson everyone should have a backup Profile.Plan file in C:\Programs\Chief Arch.x9\Templates of all Chief OOB Templates , just in case they ruin the ones ( like me) in the Chief Data folder at : My Documents\Chief Architect Premier X9 Data in my case I think I may have accidentally edited that already. I looked on CA website in case they had a Download for such issues but couldn't find one.... Mick
-
Thanks Michael..... how about the backup file in C\Programs\Chief Arch.\Templates ? or have you alter that backup like me already too? Another Question , I have on this is , what can be re-imported without possibly messing up a "Fresh Copy" ? Anno Sets Layers Sets Macros Wall Defs Toolbar Configs HotKeys Line Styles anything else ? or none of the above ? I am thinking Importing the Defaults would be a bad idea but I am thinking about everything in there like Text Styles etc , or are they included with the Annoset anyway? Maybe I should make a new Topic on this ? M.
-
Yes, that was why I asked someone to post a copy and I didn't want to reinstall , in case it messed something else up by setting everything to OOB settings again...... eg Preferences etc.
-
Thanks Rob even had the Flatscreen TV ready

I would assume he is asking about the 29th as that is when the Sale Pricing for Chief Ends...... which may mean he doesn't have it yet , so the Beta Team is not an option. So far I think the Video is all we have , since all the new Features probably aren't finalized yet.... M.

you' re not necessarily you doing anything wrong perse, but it can depend on other settings for example the one's Eric has high-lighted above. in the case of Porches it is sometimes better to use the Deck Room designation and do the Porch roof plane manually..... if that isn't possible? you have not done your SIG so I don't know your version , see mine for how) then try the advice/ideas in this post by Jo_Ann..... https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/3785-mixed-pitches-on-gabled-roofs-at-90°/?do=findComment&comment=20451
