  1. Yeah I can see no down side to color for presentation purposes as your very nice elevation clearly shows. Rob, do you think something like that would print OK in B & W?
  2. Curious, do plot line views update? ..and wasn't there a furious debate a few years back about live views, the lack thereof, and the demand they be included in Chief?
  3. Yeah my print shop (which is probably yours as well) does just that and I guess the City could do the same with color sets - print them in B & W - but what would the purpose then be of sending anything in color? I also had an idea that they may not print hard copy at all? The inspector arrives at the job site with the plans on his iPad, does his inspection, signs off and he's out of there. Going to be very interesting to see how the digital submission strategy plays out. Giunea pig anyone?
  4. Yeah big changes in store for submittals in our city (San Diego) and didn't think about sending color prints. The first thought I had was that if the plans will eventually need to be printed any color printing will take the fun out printing costs? But more to the point of your post's question I send 'LIVE VIEWS' (update on demand) in black and white for sections elevation etc. Would love to start using color but don't know if the printing costs (if they are even going to print sets) would be prohibitive.
  5. Nice and a very simple solution for my ACAD designer.
  6. ...and that 12" gives enough breathing room for frames and doors and drawers etc.?
  7. Not sure I understand. A 24" cabinet across the back wall is reduced to approx. 14" across the front. An 18" cabinet is reduced to approx. 8". Is there a 5:12 ratio in there somewhere? When I tried a ratio of different cabinet front lengths it was not consistent across all cab dims. There's another formula I'm looking for. EDIT the answer is here, just didn't get it. Thanks
  8. Difficult to ask this question clearly but am working with an ACAD user who will give me cabinet designs and elevations that produce in 3D for our clients. The 2D elevations are produced at a 90 degree angle to each wall but the cabinets that create the corners cannot remain at their 2D dimensions as they are truncated at the angle in the corner, 22.5 in this case. Curious about a formula that might recreate each remaining length of cabinet after that truncation? Hope the video can clarify the question. Got to be some geometry/trig brains out their that have worked this out? Mark? Thanks
  9. Defaults are plan specific and preferences are global - I think...
  10. ...and don't forget the draw order icon in the tool bar...it will also help to know what program and version you are using.
  11. Great advice from both David and Mark and I would only add, if it hasn't already been said better above, do not give up. Chief is a very complex deeply technical piece of software and when I first started I simply did not get the paradigm Chief uses to create computer generated homes. My brain simply was/is not wired to the same drummer and beat that Chief uses. My internal logic said it should work one way and Chief's external absolutes demanded it work another. Took a while to adjust and am still adjusting 20 years later. Best part about Chief, hands down, is this forum as demonstrated by the great advice above. Best of luck and come here with any questions and concerns and someone will surely help. ...and the best tutorials and Chief information is IMO David Michael and Chieftutor. https://www.chieftutor.net/
  12. Yeah those are notorious in my plan sets as well.
  13. I'll try that as well next time. THANKS
  14. Anyone else seen this behavior? Occasional. Random? Dunno what causes it but seems like switching plan view cures it.
  15. The Layout TITLE info is filled out on each page bit if there are 2 layout boxes, they each inherit the same name if that's the macro being used. If those 2 Layout boxes have different enough information to deserve their own unique Label Title then the single macro doesn't work. The auto label feature works perfectly as long as the SPV are named appropriately. Interesting technique with the markers.
  16. Thanks Mick, I've been using the layout title macro but it names all of the layout boxes the same on the layout page. Wanted to have unique names instead of renaming each label. The auot label s does the trick. Thanks again.
  17. Nice. How in the world did you discover that? Or maybe better, how did I not? THANK YOU
  18. Would like to auto label my Layout Box with the 'plan view' label i.e. 'Second Floor Proposed' etc. Is it hiding somewhere? Thanks
  19. If I understand your post, which is not easy by the way, I think I read that in your experience PDF's are jerky as hell and screen captures are not? If I read that correctly that's one tricks to speed up the display of PDF based data - that is take a screen capture, or by whatever means your PDF editor allows, and use the resulting .jpg; .png. file instead of the original PDF.
  20. PDF's in Chief are slow. The video card will probably not help. A faster CPU can help in many ways but the video card does 3D 'rendering' and most likely not help with PDF's. At least it did not help on my machine. Let me add that even though a faster video card did not increase the speed of my machine it did get that checked off my list of upgrades and put that expense/upgrade to sleep.
  21. Of course the video card 'comes in to play' in various ways with Chief and if budget is no object then buy the fastest, latest, greatest card. OP, let us know what you end up with.
  22. Not sure about other Chief users but I don't find the video card to be a huge factor in the overall speed of Chief. Of course faster should be better but I think any upgrade from an older 1080 or perhaps even a 1070 is money not that well spent and money that could be better spent on a processor upgrade or one of the fastest SSD drives.
  23. Carefully consider the video card. I found no performance improvement after upgrading to the 1080 in sig. What card do you have now Mike?
