  1. Thanks Robert, I do that with my Window and Door Schedules but find having the Note Schedule in the plan allows for quick and easy note changes while in plan view instead of a separate CAD Detail. May have to abandon my ways. Perhaps the answer to my initial question is No?
  2. Thanks Joe but some of my schedules are part of the plan view like the attached. Then I send the plan to Layout and rotate it there and the notes don't follow. Might be missing something basic.
  3. Probably a dumb one but is there a way to rotate the note numbers within a note schedule as it's rotated? Been trying every setting I can find but am missing something. Keep getting this after rotating the schedule. But want the numbers to rotate/orient like the text Thanks
  4. Always learn something from your vids Eric...
  5. If you cut the roofs and 'join' them through the valleys instead of overbuilding them you will get more consistent Roofs, Overhang Area lines but just turning that layer off is smart in most all cases and less confusing in plan view.
  6. Actually it's the Roofs, Overhang Area layer. Which is one of those Chief layers like 'ceiling break lines' that cannot be selected in Chief even when unlocked.
  7. What happens if you make those 2 roof pitches the same? With the same base line height? Then joined them all?
  8. Found this, if your labels are generated by the poly line label dbx.
  9. That's what I do, and simply refer to the truss(es) as 'per plan' or 'per layout and calcs'. It's made sense and hasn't seemed to confuse anyone for the last 20 or so odd years. Just another way to do things.
  10. It's possible to draw the trusses in Chief but without an accurate layout and truss design from the truss company drawing in the correct trusses at this stage is a crap shoot and your sections will most likely not be accurate. One method you could use to get your sections (not for the purists) is to wait for the truss designs and layout. You can then cut your sections, toggle off ceiling joist framing and roof rafter framing and draw in a representation of a truss in the newly cut section. If there's furnace, storage or other unique areas in the truss design you can refer to the truss designs for those areas and draw in the trusses according to those specific truss designs. Again not for the purists, and that has its down sides of course, but it might give you a chance to get the sections accurate enough without getting each truss exactly perfect in Chief.
  11. Wanted to share another experience and express my gratitude for all the help in this thread. Another plan had an attic wall that wasn't drawing correctly but now I knew how to fix it. NICE...
  12. I disagree. There's a lot of 'winning' with threads like these and help from fellow users like yourself. I win every time I open a thread like this and learn just a little bit more about Chief. And as always thank you for your, and everyone's help.
  13. Checked help and am using Template plans as intended and have been for years. Thanks.
  14. Yes, the template HAD some errant walls. Fixed it - issue solved.
  15. Thought I was using that as well. Maybe not though. I should recheck my methods. Darn just when I think I understand things. I have a template plan that I open for each new plan and it has all my Anno Sets Saved Plan Views etc. I will save that plan as "New Job Name" but how else would one proceed with a template plan?
  16. Never made manual manipulations to those walls. Just sayin' - never did - no matter what the plan nor the wall dbx implies. Never did. Maybe that helps maybe it doesn't but never manually manipulated those walls.
  17. Not sure I understand the SAM method then. I use a template plan and never 'Save As' a plan file - ever. How does using a template translate in to using the SAM method? Genuinely confused...
  18. Not sure how the SAM method made its way in to the conversation but I don't think there's many who use that method. Could be wrong but thought it lost favor for various reasons?
  19. Also please remember I changed my default exterior wall Layer to 'walls, normal EXTERIOR' which is the layer that my attic walls now generate on. The walls that appear to have been created manually are on the walls, attic layer which are no longer generated automatically and just sit there on a layer that's no longer used/visible. That's been remedied of course. Either way it's great to have more understanding in the ways of Chief...
  20. Good advice and I wonder where a 'template' plan might cross the line in to errors and bloat? Not sure I could live without my templates...
  21. Not true, did not do any 'futzing' at all, those attic walls were there after simply moving the exterior walls with nothing done to the attic walls themselves, but understand if you don't buy it. Still grateful for the help. What if you tried to reproduce the effect with that plan file? Thanks.
  22. Understand your skepticism and agree blaming Chief for user error is not productive. Let me know please if the demo video and plan shed some light? Thanks again very much.
