  1. ...and don't forget the draw order icon in the tool bar...it will also help to know what program and version you are using.
  2. Great advice from both David and Mark and I would only add, if it hasn't already been said better above, do not give up. Chief is a very complex deeply technical piece of software and when I first started I simply did not get the paradigm Chief uses to create computer generated homes. My brain simply was/is not wired to the same drummer and beat that Chief uses. My internal logic said it should work one way and Chief's external absolutes demanded it work another. Took a while to adjust and am still adjusting 20 years later. Best part about Chief, hands down, is this forum as demonstrated by the great advice above. Best of luck and come here with any questions and concerns and someone will surely help. ...and the best tutorials and Chief information is IMO David Michael and Chieftutor. https://www.chieftutor.net/
  3. Yeah those are notorious in my plan sets as well.
  4. I'll try that as well next time. THANKS
  5. Anyone else seen this behavior? Occasional. Random? Dunno what causes it but seems like switching plan view cures it.
  6. The Layout TITLE info is filled out on each page bit if there are 2 layout boxes, they each inherit the same name if that's the macro being used. If those 2 Layout boxes have different enough information to deserve their own unique Label Title then the single macro doesn't work. The auto label feature works perfectly as long as the SPV are named appropriately. Interesting technique with the markers.
  7. Thanks Mick, I've been using the layout title macro but it names all of the layout boxes the same on the layout page. Wanted to have unique names instead of renaming each label. The auot label s does the trick. Thanks again.
  8. Nice. How in the world did you discover that? Or maybe better, how did I not? THANK YOU
  9. Would like to auto label my Layout Box with the 'plan view' label i.e. 'Second Floor Proposed' etc. Is it hiding somewhere? Thanks
  10. If I understand your post, which is not easy by the way, I think I read that in your experience PDF's are jerky as hell and screen captures are not? If I read that correctly that's one tricks to speed up the display of PDF based data - that is take a screen capture, or by whatever means your PDF editor allows, and use the resulting .jpg; .png. file instead of the original PDF.
  11. PDF's in Chief are slow. The video card will probably not help. A faster CPU can help in many ways but the video card does 3D 'rendering' and most likely not help with PDF's. At least it did not help on my machine. Let me add that even though a faster video card did not increase the speed of my machine it did get that checked off my list of upgrades and put that expense/upgrade to sleep.
  12. Of course the video card 'comes in to play' in various ways with Chief and if budget is no object then buy the fastest, latest, greatest card. OP, let us know what you end up with.
  13. Not sure about other Chief users but I don't find the video card to be a huge factor in the overall speed of Chief. Of course faster should be better but I think any upgrade from an older 1080 or perhaps even a 1070 is money not that well spent and money that could be better spent on a processor upgrade or one of the fastest SSD drives.
  14. Carefully consider the video card. I found no performance improvement after upgrading to the 1080 in sig. What card do you have now Mike?
  15. ...cabinet would be my choice, saved to library as a symbol?
  16. Looking good, glad you got it figured out.
  17. Sometimes us posters assume too much knowledge on the part of the questioner and for that I apologize. Hopefully David's video helps you out? The part I could have added was Step 1>in plan view select a room. Step 2>open the room's dialog box for specification. Step 3> select the structure tab. Step 4>go to the ceiling finish and either check the default box (which is set to 5/8" drywall) or click on the ceiling finish/edit button and specify drywall from the 'plan materials' as David as shown. Should work, (worked OK here). If it doesn't, don't hesitate to ask again.
  18. Not sure either and ran out of time to pursue. Wait for the smart guys to post....?
  19. Brittany, go to the structure tab on the first floor and put in your ceiling finish. You can do it room by room but going in to the defaults tab>first floor>add that ceiling finish should cover all the rooms on that first floor. I see that your defaults are set to 5/8" drywall so in the dbx I've shown click the default button to set the ceiling finish.
  20. A little confusing. 2 simple walls won't make a 'room' hence no ceiling to extend to.
  21. GREAT video Steve. Always learn something and am also blown away by the complexity of Chief. Thanks.
  22. As I posted on your YouTube channel, I remember a split level I did a couple months ago and it kicked my butt so badly I ended up with p-line solids and shifted walls and finally got it done but wow, what an ordeal. Even now I tried to follow your video and through no fault of your excellent tutorial I ended up with such a mess that I simply gave up as I'm too busy to mess with it. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but have been using Chief for 20 years and still can't understand some of the paradigms and convoluted methods. I'll return here for my next split level but for now it's simply over my pay grade. Thanks again.
  23. I don't use live views for that reason. Could never 'trust' them
  24. Have used send view as image for as long as the feature existed. As 'an image' it won't jump around because it's simply an image. Can't attest to image resolution but the larger your screen typically the higher the res if I remember correctly. Can you trust it? Dunno but works OK here. Just remember that's why I don't send the current screen as it can change inadvertently but the image remains a simple image. Curious has the OP found a solution?
