  1. ...cabinet would be my choice, saved to library as a symbol?
  2. Looking good, glad you got it figured out.
  3. Sometimes us posters assume too much knowledge on the part of the questioner and for that I apologize. Hopefully David's video helps you out? The part I could have added was Step 1>in plan view select a room. Step 2>open the room's dialog box for specification. Step 3> select the structure tab. Step 4>go to the ceiling finish and either check the default box (which is set to 5/8" drywall) or click on the ceiling finish/edit button and specify drywall from the 'plan materials' as David as shown. Should work, (worked OK here). If it doesn't, don't hesitate to ask again.
  4. Not sure either and ran out of time to pursue. Wait for the smart guys to post....?
  5. Brittany, go to the structure tab on the first floor and put in your ceiling finish. You can do it room by room but going in to the defaults tab>first floor>add that ceiling finish should cover all the rooms on that first floor. I see that your defaults are set to 5/8" drywall so in the dbx I've shown click the default button to set the ceiling finish.
  6. A little confusing. 2 simple walls won't make a 'room' hence no ceiling to extend to.
  7. GREAT video Steve. Always learn something and am also blown away by the complexity of Chief. Thanks.
  8. As I posted on your YouTube channel, I remember a split level I did a couple months ago and it kicked my butt so badly I ended up with p-line solids and shifted walls and finally got it done but wow, what an ordeal. Even now I tried to follow your video and through no fault of your excellent tutorial I ended up with such a mess that I simply gave up as I'm too busy to mess with it. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but have been using Chief for 20 years and still can't understand some of the paradigms and convoluted methods. I'll return here for my next split level but for now it's simply over my pay grade. Thanks again.
  9. I don't use live views for that reason. Could never 'trust' them
  10. Have used send view as image for as long as the feature existed. As 'an image' it won't jump around because it's simply an image. Can't attest to image resolution but the larger your screen typically the higher the res if I remember correctly. Can you trust it? Dunno but works OK here. Just remember that's why I don't send the current screen as it can change inadvertently but the image remains a simple image. Curious has the OP found a solution?
  11. I see a reason to not use the send current view might be when a higher resolution is desired. Sorry, didn't read that in the OP as a [parameter...
  12. Probably all true but why wouldn't one use the send Current View as Image' feature? That image can be cropped and resized and I suppose that covers the aspect ratio too? Is it too simple? Or are there drawbacks I'm not aware of?
  13. Are you sending Current Screen or Current Screen as Image? Works as expected here with no change in aspect ration or screen size. If you send as image it will not update, but you can crop and resize as needed.
  14. Too funny - I think I might have added a few items lately. Make an offer, everything must go....
  15. Can't remember seeing anything either Gene. This (quote above) has been my experience as well. It's a favorite thing to do during presentations to add a picture of something that might resonate with the client (surfing/sailing) or even a nice sunset or other picture to add a custom touch to the TV screen.
  16. ..was holding down cntrl key to free up movements. Should do the same thing or better correct?
  17. So simple right? Amazing how long I'll stick with a flawed method just because it's familiar.. Thanks David.
  18. Double click the Smoke Detector symbol and change its size in the dbx. I do it all the time for the reasons you state. I use 12 and maintain aspect ratio. Would love to be able to set this as the default size but not show how or if it can be done. Interesting, I added the larger size to my library, changed the name from Chief's default 'Smoke Detector 1' to simply smoke detector and it's the first thing that comes up in the library when searching foe smoke detector. Nice. Off to change the CO detector as well.
  19. Looks like elevation views can't be rotated?
  20. With those angles changed to a more 'standard' 135 degrees it's easy to get the walls to equalize but may not be what the designer wants in this case. Just an option and certainly nothing that Eric has missed with the plan as presented.
  21. Very interesting thread/topic and solution. Nice vid as always Eric, learned something new again. I have a question though and hope it does not hijack the thread too badly. I think if it were my plan (and it's not I clearly understand) I might try and get the 2 return walls to be of equal length which would/could get the angles at each roof edge to be the same but I could not get Chief to create those equal returns. Locking wall end, start or center did not seem to matter. Set one return length adjust the other and the first would be changed. You'll see in the vid I lucked in to getting the dims to match but that was after 20 minutes of messing with it. Couple questions; would that approach make the plan and roof structure easier to manage? And is there a way accomplish that without manually lucking in to a solution? ...and if this is best in another thread please advise. Upon further review I can see how the length of those walls is not really important in this case as it would also require a 45 or 135 degree wall angle and exterior wall dimension changes to to be relevant. I think. With those changes, a -135 degree wall angle and exterior dimension changes it's down right easy but changes the plan in a way that may not be desirable.
  22. Thanks Joe, couldn't agree more. None of the techniques are onerous in any meaningful way and was really just hoping that there might be a way the schedule box could be rotated and have the numbers come along with the text but as you suggest accepting the way it is is the only way to keep sane me thinks.
  23. Thanks Robert and I understand the technique. Not sure which direction I'm going to go with my Schedules. It happens pretty rarely and it might be smart to change nothing and use the technique you described in those rare instances. Thanks again for all the input and help.
  24. Thanks Mark but the direction as shown is the problem. I would like to show the schedule in the horizontal direction to make it more legible as you suggest, not in the direction as shown. However when rotating the schedule in the plan the numbers don't follow. I can copy the layout box, crop and adjust but would like to simply be able to rotate the schedule in the plan and have the numbers follow the rotation. May take the schedule out of the plan and put it in a CAD Detail sent to layout but like the convenience of working with the schedule in the plan view. Thanks again.
