  1. You could try drawing the foundation for the stoop on the foundation level, select the room that is then defined by those walls, then in the structure tab change the ceiling height of that foundation room to a more appropriate value, which will bring the floor of that room up. Probably other/better methods but this one might work for you. stoop plan.plan
  2. Good idea of course re: the template but just realized I never include this info in my plan sets. Maybe it's time to set up the template to deal with the eventuality. Thanks Chris
  3. Always appreciate your feedback Mick but I think the signals got a bit crossed here. The video was posted before your suggested steps and wasn't intended to reflect those suggestions, so yes I didn't follow your instructions in the video. When I did follow your instructions it worked great. I didn't read through the dbx that I got when placing the sink as a 'free standing object' - check yes and it all works great. The dbx I got previously I couldn't change layers with the sink I was using (dunno why) but then it worked fine and with invisible line for the cabs in the ref set, piece of cake. Thanks for the follow up.
  4. Yup just a little effort and it's customized the way you want it.
  5. Does OneDrive have versions or history you can revert to? Depends on where your files were originally located.
  6. Looks like inset sinks must be set in to a cabinet and end up on the CAD default layer and can't be changed, or I can't see how.
  7. "Would depend on where Fixtures are if not on the foundation Level.." True that. See if I missed something in that vid Mick. I could not get the sink, once placed in a cabinet, on a different layer than what's default from Chief (CAD default). Gonna try your suggestion but would rather not have to go through too much for each sink..
  8. There appears to be a way to display just the sink without the cabinet. Stumble through the technique but it seems to work. Correction from Eric below. Just choose the blank line style for the cabinets in the ref set. ref_set_3.plan
  9. John, do you use DropBox or Carbonite? DB has a version/history feature that allows recovering older versions and CArbonite backs up everything..
  10. This is most likely the problem. X12 allows for multiple ref sets so you can set up a single ref set just for your plumbing/foundation view. They are a bit tricky to get the hang of but once you do you will most likely use them on every plan set.
  11. Curious, are the plumbing fixtures on the foundation level? If so simply turn on the fixtures layer to show them in position. If not then a reference layer SHOULD give you what you want as has been suggested a couple times. Have you figured this out yet? Do you understand ref layers? Perhaps post a plan and the smart guys can offer more help. Also curious about how you generated the image you posted?
  12. That screen shot was from a video tutorial using X8 so maybe so?
  13. Here's the older send to layout dbx I was talking about. If you have this dbx, uncheck the box. Newer versions have eliminated that option cause it only caused confusion. Sorry if you are using X12 as the advice does not apply.
  14. Michael, What version are you using? I thought there were older versions where there was a check box to send as new layout set or something like that, where every time you sent a view to layout it would create a new default set? Might not be remembering that correctly but when sending your view to layout see if that check box is there for a new default set. If it is make sure it is not checked. If you are using X12 then not much help I'm afraid.
  15. That's pretty bizarre behavior. I keep it on so have not experienced that. Should it be addressed? Dunno...
  16. Interesting, never looked at it that way and was never really bothered by it but understood if it bothers others.
  17. Why can't you just turn 'on' auto build terrain? The icon should then disappear.
  18. After re-reading your posts I don't think my plan will help much. Let us know what you end up doing please.
  19. I'm not sure that simply lowering the roof on a second floor might create the same look, perhaps no need to create a '0' height second floor, just a cantilevered second floor?.
  20. Kevin, Here's a plan with a '0' height second floor that can be cantilevered over the first floor to get your 2 x 10 floor joists to extend past the first floor plate. The roof can then be manually lowered to create the overlap of the rafters over the joists. The upside is that it will frame automatically the down side is it may not be practical for your total design intent. ROOF_1.plan
  21. Here's the plan file of that drawing if it might help... GAS_ISOMETRIC.plan
  22. We also live in a VERY different environment here in Southern California and I can't think of a framer who would even LOOK at a header detail (other than size L x W) as we mostly spec wall thickness headers 4x 6x etc. in a structural setting and insulating a header is pretty much unheard of from my experience here at least.
  23. VERY interesting and thanks so much for taking the time to explain. Wonder if any of the the smart guys (you included of course) will come up with an answer to your question. Good luck...
