Also- much agreed with Humble- in most remodels new walls will conflict with existing demo wall locations. Door and windows too. CA doesn't like these conditions at all. Separate demo and remodel plans eliminate those conflicts.
-
I do many addition remodel projects and have to create as-built drawings as the base plan. My method is: 1- Create the as-built and use it as the basis for new design ideas 2- Copy design ideas and revise until we have client sign off 3- Use the a copy of the as-built plan as the basis for the demolition plan- this plan will have all of the demo wall types and layers 4- Keep the demolition plan, final addition- remodel design plan and the associated layout file together in one folder ( i.e.. John Doe const doc folder) (This layout file can be updated for either the demo plan or new work as needed for building department corrections, etc... without the concern of either plan file disrupting the other) I always keep the original as-built completely separate for reference later in case of conflicts in the field.

Is X9 available for download if I was not a beta tester? Or is there a projected release date for the rest of us.
-
I'm not a beta tester for X9 so don't have anything to really contribute at this point. Looking forward to the full release.

Can't wait to see the calculation Macro's in person. With all the different tabulations required for FAR, Impervious area and the rest Scott mentioned, I can see it being a real time saver. Count me in for the online meeting if it materializes.

I thought remembered seeing something about this in the "what's new in X9" teaser a while back. Did they really add the option to auto build cable or other panel rail that runs with the stair pitch?

How to give positive reputaion point to another user
RL-inc replied to RL-inc's topic in General Q & A
Knew it was something simple- Thanks Joe -
David- How's the weather up in Hood River. I'm in Bend - 3' on the ground and we are getting another 5-10" today.
-
Sounds like a long process. Think I'll just take everyone's word for it

Sound similar to an issue I had in X6- lost all user libraries. Fortunately had all backed up with Carbonite. Had to contact tech support to get it all reloaded though. Might try them next- Best of luck.

Probably an easy "click" I am missing but how do I go about giving a positive ( or negative) reputation point to another forum member? ( Want to make sure I give credit where credit is due.)

Generally I just pull the base of the main roof plane back to the bearing wall line from the intersection with the overframe. Then bring the overframe onto the main body. This allows the main body to stay continuous while the overframe lays on top.

As Dermot stated- the line style probably got changed in one layer set and updated all layer sets. Should be an easy fix to go back and edit.

Temporary dimensions look good to me. Not sure why it would be an issue
-
Regarding the dimension issue with the 45 degree wall, I have also had similar problems. The dimensioning and exact locating of angled walls has alays been bit tedious for me.
-
I also do a good bit of remodel work and the as builds that go along with them. You can set the temp dimensions default to select the finish wall surface and then also select both wall sides. This generally woks best for me although I do have to add some manual dimensions from time to time to resolove the issue in your last picture.

My intent was not to imply that field experience is a substitute for quality design/drafting training, but to suggest what I believe is the best way to understand how the information that we provide in our CD's is perceived and implemented on the jobsite. I have met project managers that can schedule subs, verify change orders, deal with HOA's, etc...but don't understand the basic structural aspects of residential construction. On the flip side one of the main things that fueled my fire to start my design business was dealing with "formally trained" architects that I had to bring to the site and explain why what they drew wouldn't work and then show them how we could fix it. (That, coupled with CA's ability to create the 3d model that allows us to find problem areas that wouldn't be readily seen in 2d line drawings and fully understand the entire structure, made the transition into the design field an exciting and positive move.) Again- I'm not trying to press an argument or state that the way I evolved my business is the right way. Just trying to pass on some experience that has been valuable to me.

Sorry to be late to the party but this topic has morphed into a direction that peaked my interest. I got a associates degree from a trade school in Phx Az 30 years ago with the promise that I could get a job using AutoCAD. After living in the big city for those 2 years I realized that city life and a desk job was not for me- so I moved back to Central Oregon and got into the construction industry as a carpenter. I had spent the majority of my working life building custom homes and running crews in all phases of structural construction. The experience that gave me has proven invaluable as I transformed my contracting business into a design/ build company- with CA being a huge factor. ( I doubt I could have done it with AutoCAD- to me CA was building a house, just using different tools.) My long winded way around to this point is I feel like anyone who is going to offer design services should have had some sort of field experience so they can understand that no matter what we draw or what jurisdiction stamps it- some poor guy has to put it together.

Would like to hear how this shakes out George. I have the same issue on my laptop as well.

Sorry, Love the basic idea of fill options for roof planes in plan view.

Love the basic idwa

Thanks Richard- much appreciated

Sorry for a dumb question on weekend but for some reason my doors casings are not stopping when pushed to a wall. Can't think of any settings I have changed- any ideas?

I am sending to layout as I usually do- send view to layout tool in my toolbar- is there another way I am missing? I am using CA save as PDF- I was using pdf 995 earlier and was getting some odd line issues outside of the driveway polyline. (Did some research in this forum and realized that had been an issue for some other users when printing with 2nd party pdf programs.) Went with CA pdf printer and solved that issue but now have the odd line patterns coming through as shown on the attached pdf in my original post.
