I always have a unique name for each view sent to layout. ie- main floor plan set, upper floor plan set, main floor framing set, etc.... I think I see where you are headed though......

I have recently started working with exporting and importing layer and annotation sets and am very excited about the prospect of improving my productivity with more consistent page set-up's. However I have encounter a strange side effect. When I open multiple plan views - either from layout or directly from the plan file- and I change the active layer set in the control box on one plan view, it changes the layer set in all of the plan views I have open. ( Before I started this exercise I could have separate layer sets active for each open plan view.) As usual, I am assuming that I have checked something or changed a default somewhere that I am missing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can only assume that I have a simple setting wrong or have it hidden somehow, but when I try to open the project browser in plan or layout I get nothing. it shows that it is checked on the icon but not coming up on the screen.

My engineer has Bluebeam and really likes it- if i go with a pdf converter i would probaly lean that way since i can get some help from him with the learnig curve. I do like the idea of a PDF to DWG converter though- then just impoert into CA and edit. Seems like one less program to learn in an already busy schedule.

Or maybe a pdf to dwg converter?

Does anyone know of a simple and inexpensive program for editing PDF files? Nothing too extreme- just want to edit text, lines, relocate views, etc....

As always- thank you for the advice. A combination of the two did the trick. I will continue to work on the nuances of ray tracing for sure. agreed that a separate forum for this would be a great idea.

I realize that I'm not going to master ray tracing overnight but I have looked into many tutorials and can't seem to find any direction on color consistency between the render view and ray trace view.

Must have stumped the audience on this one

I have run into this quite often and have always kind of cheated with some adjusting of the image effects but I really want to understand the issue and solve the problem. As you can see in the 2 attachments the colors on the model are changing drastically from the render view to the ray trace. I have played with editing the color of the outside lighting and ambient lighting but still not getting an accurate color on the ray trace.

Thanks - I did that and it worked fine. Just thought there may have been a way to customize 1 unit. No worries - the 2 mulled into one did the trick.

Does anyone know how to model a window like this? Thanks in advance.

I have gone through all of the suggestions that I have received from this forum- thanks to all for the well thought out input. I have had my computer professional look through the situation as well and updated all drivers associated with the Nvidia card. We have it currently to the point that it will run X8 and create 3d models of some of my more basic designs. However when shadows are added to the views - lock up. I am in the middle of trying to get out on vacation but will send tech support my information and a overview of the situation. (When i talked to tech support they directed me to Nvidia- Nvidia has tried to help me with the situation somewhat but no real resolutions.)

Would love too-- Is there a way to put a video card in a laptop?

Went through all of the above mentioned ideas as well as a couple from Nvidia- all with the help of my computer guy. No luck at all Guess X8 won't grasp, this card on this machine?

Thanks for all the feedback and sorry for the slow reply. In the field yesterday afternoon. Reboot solved the bblack put problem. Took the machine into computer guy and we tried reinstalling the Nvidia drivers. No luck. He is working on it now and I will mention disabling the audio drivers. Thanks again for all the help. Will update as soon as I know more.

I found the devices manager and disabled the Nvidia card and enabled again- then in my infinite wisdom i decided to disable the Intel card so CA would have to look for the Nvidia card. i didn't think about the fact that it would turn off the dis[lay on my computer! Now i'm stuck.

Dianne- i looked at the Nvidia control panel and i can't find anywhere that it references audio drivers. only 3d settings are listed

Can't find a way to talk to a human at Nvidia. Have tried through the Nvidia control panel to add X8 to the 3d list as it shows on my office machine but it seems like X8 does not recognize it or vise-vera. talked to CA support again and they are saying that I need to talk to Nvidia- wish I could

I spoke with tech support and we determined that X8 was not using my Nvidia graphics card. I have gone to the Nvidia control panel and tried to add X8 but in CA preferences it still shows that X8 is using the Intel graphics that are basic on the laptop. Tech support suggests that I contact Nvidia tech. I guess that is the next step

I am making the leap from X6 to X8 and have loaded it on my laptop. The download and library transfer has gone as smooth as all previous version upgrades. When it comes to running the program things bog down. It is somewhat slow to load and opening a new or existing plan from an older version is quite sluggish as well. Where we really hit the brakes is in any sort of 3d modeling with shadows enabled. It is at that point that the program locks up. I have loaded all previous version upgrades on my laptop first and the onto my main office computer later just to make sure that there are no issues the could compromise my main work station. All of those had gone smoothly on both machines- with the laptop being slightly slower due to less powerful machine. ( the laptop has an I-5 processor and an Nvidia Geforce 560m card- office unit has I-7 processor and GTX 570 card.) Any ideas on why the laptop would be having these issues with X8- Any ideas if I may experience similar issue on the office rig? Thanks as always for any input.
