Any Advice On Starting A Design/drafting Business (Using Chief)?
DRAWZILLA replied to Fun2Learn's topic in General Q & A
Don't forget the most important clause for designers," you are not a licensed Architect" so there is no confusion later. -
Can't you delete the blocking and re-draw just the blocking after changing the defaults?
-
I would just create a "shear detail" for that, as Chief has never gotten the blocking as it should be. Chief just locates it in the wrong location, you can move it, but don't until your ready to turn off auto framing. Angled or vertical can be used for shear nailing, or using "A35's' or "A34's" ,you just need the continuous connection.

Apparently there is a new update coming out soon, maybe that will help.

think "floor material region" tool

you can wrap text in the schedule's now in X8. For straight text just open a macro edit box and copy your text in there give it a name and save it. http://www.screencast.com/t/KV6kdcftHJ

This will give you an idea how it works http://www.screencast.com/t/jnlkuc4xlIfP

I'm not sure what the OP wants, I was talking notes in multiple instances. keynotes are different, and you just copy the callout and place it elsewhere if you want the same note. I have a short video saved if you are interested.
-
I put notes that I use multiple instances of in a simple macro text box, so when I need to change the content of the note it change all the notes at the same time.

Scott, is it newer than we have been doing them for years now?
-
Why do I see three lines then?
-
Move or delete it. I have had that happen before. If you have it to" save in plan" you won't get this, but if you don't, and move or delete the original than the layout box will still be there--blank

Do you have "generate attic walls" on? They are very easy to do manually also. Just go up to the attic level and draw them in.
-
Why not use a simple mono slab, you can also have curbs if you want, very easy to set up, manually or automatic. Robert, it looks like your first view is not correct. It looks like you have 2 slabs, use mono slab and that should go away.

I believe Chief gets their PDF software from a vendor ,so they are subject to what they get from them. Any changes or repairs have to be done by the vendor.

You don't have to send to layout with all your layer-sets lines in grayscale, you just print pdf or plotter to paper in grayscale. All the colors will turn to grayscale automatically. No reason to change all the lines color. Make sure the colors you use are grayscale friendly.

Curt has my answer, I always have a second floor on a 1 story plan, just for that purpose . You can create attic rooms up there very easily to do whatever you need.

I use Anno-sets for just about everything, including a special separate anno-sets for wall elevations and all exterior elevations. I also use colors on the dark side for grayscale printing, light colors will tend to print too light. to test it just turn off the color icon and see. You also need to have "Color off is Grayscale" in preferences. I also print to PDF in color so when actually printed to paper in grayscale it look good, and the homeowner likes color better. One more thing , if you use live views, you won't get the special line weights to make your elevations "Pop", use "plot lines" to get the line weights you want, I have no idea where the line weight come from using live views.

Joe Carrick has created some macro's to do all of this automatically. Also framing members have a label box you can type anything you want there. Just select a floor or ceiling joists and look in the label box.

Yes, we really need a quick way to draw some cad lines, like for drawing in cabinet locations, column's, just for distance measurements. Also address more floors instead of a new plan for every floor. 5 plans is not enough "cloud storage" if you want serious users and need a separate plan for every floor. edit: What about the property line /exterior measurements? I need them on every job. Do I have to pull out my pencil and paper, kind of defeats the purpose of room planner.

simple footing adjustment.

set it up in a template plan and done. No fuss after that.
