Mike, This is the thread. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2175-super-quick-access-to-sun-angle-dvx-in-camera-mode/page-2?hl=shadows Have a look at my post #30

Shane, OK, try this. You may need to adjust things to get them exactly correct. All auto build roofs. Porch roof plan 2 GLENNS AMENDED 2.zip
-
Shane, What I posted was not a "workaround". Your 2 pictures show 2 different results. Which one do you really want? Either is easy to set up and auto build using the settings I gave you.
-
I posted a technique a little while back that enabled the sun to follow the camera so that the sun always shone on the visible sides of the building.

Shane, You need to reduce the height of the Porch roof and then use the Pitch Options to set the Upper Pitch to 10" as per the dbx below (this is the porch railing wall dbx) - you will need to adjust the values shown as I just did a quickie for demo purposes: Oh, to get the gable to build, break the railing wall either side of where you want the gable and change that bit of railing back to a single pitch. Auto rebuild roofs. I'll post the plan Porch roof plan 2 GLENNS AMENDED.zip

Gutters keep reverting back to "Default"
glennw replied to Richard_Morrison's topic in General Q & A
Mick, He was doing it by selecting the auto molding polyline that holds the gutter molding and then changing the molding. That's only good until a rebuildt and then the gutter molding goes back to the default. Richard, If only that were true!! -

Christina, My only suggestion would be to post the plan. -
Gutters keep reverting back to "Default"
glennw replied to Richard_Morrison's topic in General Q & A
Richard, The gutter keeps rebuilding with the default gutter. Double click the Build Roof icon to open the Build Roof dbx. Go to the Gutter panel and select the molding profile you want as the default gutter. -
Rashid, My invoice for $500 is on the way to you for supply of my hotkey file and training.

Bernie, You can use the Point to Point Resize tool to do what you want. Select the picture box. On the Edit toolbar, look for the Point to Point Resize icon - the double headed arrow. You can use either vertical or horizontal resizing to stretch the image to the desired size. The picture boxes work more like a layout box now and I am pretty sure that at least X6 worked this way as well.

Rashid, Looks like you are using my hotkeys! I think you must have changed the hotkey assignment somehow yourself because I don't think that Chief comes with any OOB sequential hotkeys (eg, S,A) - the OOB hotkeys are all simultaneous (ugh!) (eg, Ctrl+S), same as other windows programs. So...Maybe user error?
-
Scott, I don't think you are comparing apples with apples. I had a look at your 2 plans and each had plenty of added lights - but different between plans. I am not sure if that is making a difference or not. But notice that in the last 2 pics you posted that the shiny ones actually have their faces in shadow and the dull ones are facing the light source. I think it could have a lot to do with them facing different directions - especially in relation to the default sunlight? And maybe the type of views you are doing and whether the camera is inside the room or outside the room?

What's the fastest way to re-align all the wall heights?
glennw replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
David, I don't believe that Barry ever said (or even implied) I don't think he was blaming the software. To me, he seemed to be taking responsibility for the wall heights being "off". -
How do you stop attic walls from framing when using auto frame?
glennw replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
Barry, To stop them auto building ...Alt+Q (General Wall Defaults)...uncheck Auto Build Attic Walls. No problems unchecking this and then drawing your own attic walls. If you don't want an attic wall to frame, define it's wall type without a framing material. -
What's the fastest way to re-align all the wall heights?
glennw replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
Barry, Open the Wall Specification dbx...Structure panel...Default Wall Heights. Check Default Wall Top Height and/or Default Wall Bottom Height. They will be greyed out if the wall is already at the default height. -
The attic auto walls are controlled here: Alt+Q (General Wall Defaults)...Auto Rebuild Attic Walls.
-
Rob, I assume that you are talking about Temporary dimensions. Alt+Q (General Wall Defaults). Check Inner Surface for the angled wall and the one at bottom left. Check Outer Surface for the one at top left and the pic on the right. The dimension lines may be on the wrong side of the wall, but the extension lines will dimension to where you want.

Roger Make sure your Active Library Filter is "Not Filtered". To double check, make sure all the libraries in the core library are unchecked in the Manage Library Filters dbx.

Joe, And hence, no area! You can't have a room on the A floor. End of storey.

The simplest way to draw a down stair is to Alt drag the stair - it goes down instead of up.

Material painter affects both interior and exterior?
glennw replied to Nicinus's topic in General Q & A
Nicinus, What Mode are you using to paint the wall? This will make a difference. Is it a single layer wall or a multilayer wall - sounds like it may be a single layer wall? Or if it's a multilayered wall, it has the same material both sides? -

How to do flat pad on terrain with elevation lines crossing this
glennw replied to Homesteadconc_NZ's topic in General Q & A
Mick, I believe that setting only applies to the generated terrain - not the elevation lines themselves. ...if I get your meaning.
