brinkbart
I was unable to find an arched double-door symbol, even in Sketchup. Sure, they had the round top doors common in Spanish style, but not a gentle, eyebrow arched door symbol. So I made my own. There are two sizes - 24" and 30" for creating 48" and 60" double entry doors respectively. Use in a "broken arch" door frame, with a radius of 6 for the 24" doors and and 8 for the 30" doors. The 24" door can be stretched to 30" and the 30" door can be squished to 24" (remember to adjust the arch radiuses). Both doors can be stretched vertically as well. See attached thumbnails for preview! Hope you can use! EDIT: The doorknobs seen in the thumbnail previews can be found at this link. entry_doors_arched.zip Edited May 5, 2014 by brinkbart 2

ARCHIJEF2000
Brinkbart, these doors appear to have the backs missing, the inside door handles are floating in the air.
brinkbart
Brinkbart, these doors appear to have the backs missing, the inside door handles are floating in the air. Hmm... sometimes when I import a .CALIBZ from another user, the materials are off. I think the materials are tied to the template the symbol was created with, and we all use different plan templates. Perhaps the doors are importing with a "glass" texture for you? The geometry is fine for me, and I don't see why it would be any different for anyone else. So that's why I'm thinking it's a materials issue. As for the handles floating in the air, it's because of the frame around the lights. It sticks out a little farther than the door surface (about 11/16" I think). It was a trade-off I was willing to live with because it isn't noticeable in elevation views. Hope this helps! If they do not meet your needs, I am sorry. :0(

CharlesVolz
There are two sizes - 24" and 30" for creating 48" and 60" double entry doors respectively. IRC 2015: R311.2 Egress door. Not less than one egress door shall be provided for each dwelling unit. The egress door shall be side-hinged, and shall provide a clear width of not less than 32 inches (813 mm) where measured between the face of the door and the stop, with the door open 90 degrees (1.57 rad). I have used a 5' double door to meet the code requirement for egress. Now I am not sure this meets the 2015 IRC. Did the code change or have I been missing something . . . forever? ACADuser
Egress for the bedroom is the window. I think as long as the double door does not have a "Fixed Leaf" they consider the full door.

I think bedrooms need to egresses.... a door to the house and a window...... maybe you think the minimum window size meets the egress req....... it is a good question. ACADuser
Good question but I think the window meets the min width so the door does not need to.
CharlesVolz
IRC 2015: SECTION R311 MEANS OF EGRESS R311.1 Means of egress. Dwellings shall be provided with a means of egress in accordance with this section. The means of egress shall provide a continuous and unobstructed path of vertical and horizontal egress travel from all portions of the dwelling to the required egress door without requiring travel through a garage. The required egress door shall open directly into a public way or to a yard or court that opens to a public way. R311.2 Egress door. Not less than one egress door shall be provided for each dwelling unit. The egress door shall be side-hinged, and shall provide a clear width of not less than 32 inches (813 mm) where measured between the face of the door and the stop, with the door open 90 degrees (1.57 rad). The clear height of the door opening shall be not less than 78 inches (1981 mm) in height measured from the top of the threshold to the bottom of the stop. Other doors shall not be required to comply with these minimum dimensions. Egress doors shall be readily openable from inside the dwelling without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. I have used a 5' double door to meet the code requirement for egress. Now I am not sure this meets the 2015 IRC. Did the code change or have I been missing something . . . forever? My post is regarding the required exterior egress door . . . usually the entry door.

CharlesVolz
So, does everybody occasionally use double doors for entry that are 5' wide or less?
JLDrafting
So, does everybody occasionally use double doors for entry that are 5' wide or less? Once upon a time, it was common to use a double door (30"), but code, in most locations, follows the egress requirement you posted.
DRAWZILLA
5' all the time, there are a billion existing homes with 5' entry doors.
CharlesVolz
Thanks Perry. And I have designed some of them. I guess I am worrying about nothing. I restated this line of questions in the Q&A section.
