Is anyone else having an issue with exterior lintels not extending? When i stipulate a 5" wide lintel extended 1" it shows correctly in the preview but no extension occurs on the model. The width setting for lintels works but the lintel will not extend beyond the vertical casing. Never had this issue before. Thanks in advance.

I use exterior lintels all the time. If you're still having problems, let me know and I'll help you online. When we do Victorian style houses, most of the lintels have crown above with wider (taller) casing above and the crown has to have a return.

When I get my laptop out, I'll check this out using the default lintel profile. Maybe there's a bug. I usually use a custom lintel profile.

Works fine. No problems extending lintel.

When I say it works, I mean that it works for 3D views. Plan view doesn't show lintels...only casing. The program has never shown lintels in plan view. It does show sills if they are changed in plan views.

Check your casing depth, as that determines the lintel depth--especially if you're recessing the opening,

I'm having the same problem. It works fine for doors but not windows. Just like DesignBuild I never had this issue before. Very frustrating!! It seems to be some odd combination of setting and its not a recessed window issue. Come on CA can't we get these bugs fixed!

I assume we are all talking about the latest version of X8 which seems to work fine for me if I am understanding this correctly. You may want to check an old plan or a new test plan to see if the problem is plan specific.  If not please report to tech support but it seems that there is something in your plan that is fouling things up.

As said above...make sure you don't have the windows recessed. When recessed the extension will run behind the veneer and not able to be seen.

As noted by several people already, most of the time this problem is because the lintel thickness is thinner then the sheathing layer and you have a recessed window.  Currently, the program does not know how to cut the sheathing out for the lintel extensions.  You can usually solve this problem by making your window not recessed, you lintel thicker, or your sheathing thinner.

I'm a new user and am trying different tools in X11.  However, for the life of me I cannot find the extend tool (or trim tool for that matter).

I thought that if I picked an interior wall for example to extend to an exterior wall, I would select the interior wall and the
extend (and trim) tool would appear on the bottom of the screen, but it does not.  I checked the Reference Manual and videos, but no go.  I thought maybe it was left off of a toolbar, but I can't find an option to add these tools.

      Thanks for your help.

The foyer space shares a wall with one of the bedroom spaces. For this option, the first floor plate height was lifted to 9', allowing possible room for transom windows. We set up the default window and door trim to include a custom lintel molding from the WindsorONE catalog, and also used matching base molding to create a consistent look.

Any window opening in a masonry wall usually requires an angle iron lintel.  That seems to be a problem for CA.  Although there is a lintel option for windows, you have to do the lintel manually or create a profile for it.  The lintel doesn't show up correctly in the window schedule if it is an angle, i.e. 3 1/2 x 4 x 1/4 LLV (long leg vertical.)

      Does anyone have a workaround?

I am just working on a masonry garage design, and have been held up trying to figure out some details. One is for steel lintels that I am putting over the openings. The closest thing that you can use as a header type is a steel-box but I will be using steel angle. The header column shows the dimensions including the length of your lintel but only gives 1.5" on each side of the opening. Is anyone familiar with a way that I can change this to more? Otherwise, I will just remove that column and leave a note in the comments.

Second issue: When you pull your cross sections from a CMU building, it shows your trusses sitting right on the block. For now I have manually drawn my plate in with an anchor but I was curious if there is a way to do this as well?

I have a small job to do that needs a keystone window lintel.  I searched the topics, but didn't see anything that referenced this topic.  If it were just a few windows I would do each one manually, but there are quite a few to do.
