RL-inc
I did a search for this but no luck- I would like certain objects - driveway in a site plan for example- to have a bit of shading on the printed page. Not a full blown black out or a patterned fill but just a touch of transparent grey to set of the separate area. I can show a the shading if I toggle the color on but I do not want to print in color - just show a grayscale shading of sorts of the given area or object. TheKitchenAbode
I have used the "Floor Material Region" tool to show tiled areas in a floor plan view. Open the region, assign the colour & set the transparency %. Graham
RL-inc
I can see how that works with certain object and surfaces but what i need is more cad based. Really just a poly-line fill color that will display with the ability to adjust transparency in layout.
TheKitchenAbode
The "Material Region" is in reality just a polyline. You could use the CAD polyline tool instead or a polyline solid if you need it to show in camera views. Maybe I am misunderstanding what it is you need to accomplish. RL-inc
It should be simple but I can't seem to dial it in- I just want to be able to show a lightly shaded area in a site plan for the driveway or walkway. I can color the poly-line and show that shading in the layout view if I have the color toggled on but I do not want to print in color. want B&W but with the same transparent shading
TheKitchenAbode
I believe that the only way you can have a reasonable prediction of your B&W printed result is that you will need to set your polyline fill to 100% solid black and then the % transparency. I think if you use a colour other than black the printers gray scale conversion will be unpredictable, you will likely have to reduce the %transparency to print but then your plan view will most likely appear too solid. RL-inc
Ok- just tried to create a p-line with solid fill but do not see how/ where to adjust transparency?
HumbleChief
Do you have X7? Or X6 as your signature suggests? Transparency is an X7 feature.
RL-inc
x6 But after looking at all the rave reviews abut the transparency tool in X7 I can see that changing soon.
justmejerry
Have you tried printing in greyscale instead of black & white when colour is off? Believe it's a setting in preferences.
Doug_Park
From your description it sounds like you can only get what you want printing in either gray scale or by using some sort of pattern fill. Black and white is not gray scale. It is solid black and white only.
rlackore
In X6 you can achieve a greyscale shading, but without transparency. Example.pdf
