"Save As" option not present in X17

Recently upgraded to X17 and my only options are SAVE and MAKE A COPY and for the life of me, I have no clue where the make a copy file is going.

I see "Save As" under the File pull down.  I also have mine set up not using the project management tool too, so I don't know if that is different.  Can you make a copy via explorer?

Same here.... I bet that has something to do with project management turned on.

X17 is going to work differently than older versions when you have project management turned on.  So you can either turn off the project management or learn how to use it.

Thank you all!  Removing Project Management from Preferences did the trick.  Now it appears in the File drop down menu.

FOR WHAT ITS WORTH

It's tough getting used to project management but the more I use it and understand it the more I love it. It’s really handy and I’m sure it will get even better with time.

If you are using project management, and open a file but respond to the opening dialog by selection do not import to a new project, then the "save as" is there, same as x-16.  To save a file as something else you can export a plan file from the project browser (or all the files in a file of the browser) to a location outside of the management system.

There is a second method for saving as that is sort of counter intuitive that I will show later.

 

 

 

The above is for an entire project.  For an individual file you just save that file with an opportunity to rename it.

 

 

The warning tells you that the saved file has no connection to the project, which is probably what you might want anyway.

Saving a file with an alternate name in the project management system.

Start by copying the file that you want to have a different name.

 

 

LMC and make a copy.

The new plan file may be renamed.

I hope this makes sense. I love this new project manager and I’m excited to talk about it.

 

Not sure what your needs are but when you select make a copy it goes in the project folder that you are currently working on and then you can re-name it.

 

 

 

This is good If you have several different designs you are working with.

 

 

 

Let’s say in this case New Plan 1 is connected to your layout. If you want to use New Plan 3 instead, you right click on New Plan 1 and you select "Replace With" and then you choose New Plan 3 and it will take the place of New Plan 1. Very Simple

 

Also, if you start your project with a new plan file, once you complete the As-Built (before you start the remodel) you right click your as-built plan and select "Replace With" to connect your plan to your layout file.

 

 

My new project template has the Layout Plan, As-Built Plan and New plan that are already setup and linked to work together. I dont save as a template I just save it as a new project as per below.
