m2 isn't always NVME , some are combo Ports that can use NVME or SATA drives in the 2280 Format...

But assuming you have the Strix Scar II 15" GL504GM  it seems it had a NVME drive as per your sig.

I''m still waiting for them to make an affordable m.2 external enclosure- they probably have since last I checked

but I will demand that he makes it right

Make him put this one in and Clone your 1TB Drive to it and make it the Boot Drive..... ( 1TB to be Storage)

with the Credit for the empty WD 500GB it shouldn't cost much if anything if you factor in his embarrassment...

can you screenshot your device manager disk drives?

I think it's a Windows thing. I just checked mine in device manager and it also does not say it's NVMe, but if I open up it's properties DBX and check under the Events tab it states under information that it is an NVMe Samsung Pro 970.

Here is response to both of you

I mentioned previously that I had a laptop and some ports would use the nVidia card and some ports used the Intel card. It did not matter what Chief was told, the monitor used the Intel card so 3D views when using that port did what you describe. The way to check is open the nvidia control panel and see what card the montior is using-I don't have a second set up for that machine any longer so this doesn't show the problem.

the other 1 is your NVME, it is a 500gb Western Digital NVME...for some reason your tech chose to make it a data drive i nstead of  getting all the benefits of using it as a primary with your OS...mistake in my mind

I don't see it as a NVMe.

Am I missing something?

The model number suggest SATA III not NVME

And I don't see any Samsung Storage Controllers? but maybe the Samsung Driver is not installed for the 860 and it is Using the Microsoft one....

The EVO 860 is also SATA III AFAIK and comes in m2 SATA or 2.5" SATA format

curious now if the 860 evo is an m.2 or SSD, I thought it used to be that the 800 series had no m.2 drives, not the case anymore or I am mistaken

Both but m2 SATA III not PCIe (NVME) , lappy must have a Combo m2 port which has M and B keys in the Slot.

*** appears as if it is SATA III  and in 2.5" mSATA  and M@ Formats

that Suggest that the Samsung Driver for the 860 is not installed...at least to me...

*** See above.....not being a NVME drive means it doesn't have a Samsung Driver I don't think....

Samsung Magician will also tell you exactly what is installed just don't use it to update the Firmware or use it's other gimmicks...

ahh Okay, I see it...

so in conclusion, pretty sure he has the 860 evo SATA 2.5" as a primary with a WD500 NVMe as a data drive not being used, and then the firecuda got ditched as he probably only has 1 SATA 2.5" space available

So you can have a NVMe that is not a SSD?

WD is SATA III too , even in the link you posted :)  and yes to the rest.....

As far as HDD go the Firecuda at 7200 RPM isn't a bad one

No, other way around ... A SSD may not be NVME  (PCIe)......many are SATA (1 2 or 3) and only 1/4 the Speed of a PCIe NVME drive...... ie 550mb vs 3100mb/s
