expodesigngroup
In V9, how do you create glossy cabinet doors and/or cabinet boxes? Are glossy surfaces only available via RayTrace? Thank you!
Joe_Carrick
Yes it's only in a RT - and I'm assuming you mean X9 (Version 19), But you also need to use a material with some degree of reflectivity.
expodesigngroup
Ah, thank you Joe! For white glossy cabinets, I searched Library materials and didn't see any glossy surfaces besides the metals, mirrors, or glass. Should I import from Google Warehouse, or was I looking in wrong areas in Chief Library? I just tried Ray Tracing and wasn't looking glossy enough, just slightly reflective by Adjusting Material Definitions.
Dennis_Gavin
Try increasing the reflectivity or maybe even change setting to polished.
MarkMc
Reflective works better in Ray Trace, Polished looks a bit better in Standard but is a nogo in RT from what I can tell. Messing with lights is needed if using photon mapping. Attached are two quick examples with slightly different setting for the color and rt (top has no photon) along with pic of IRL Acrylic Hi-Gloss white from a recent project. MarkMc
Dennis, is that RT? Here is what I get with white polished in rt.

Dennis_Gavin
Mark - yes RT. As is evident different materials may require different settings. As those of us who have been doing RT's for a while know, it's part art form. You can't just flip a switch.

Yeah, I must of just gotten lucky last year tracing the acrylic job, don't remember trying polished on the white.
TheKitchenAbode
For solid colors you may wish to try the Lacquer Finishes in the Bonus Catalog.
expodesigngroup
Thank you all for the advice. Adding in lights, the lacquer finish, reflective adjustment and tweaking worked.
