  1. I recently had to do a closet design that required a greater level of detail than normal. Here are two symbols I knocked out to help: Valet rod based on the Rev-A-Shelf Designer series. Valet Rod.calibz Round hanging rod with brackets. Closet Rod.calibz
  2. Have you installed Win10 drivers for the plotter? Have you checked the HP support site? Are the problems only when plotting from Chief? Have you tried deleting/re-installing the plotter? So many possibilities.
  3. Aren't those doors? Is your Doors layer turned on?
  4. Can't access the Google docs link. Maybe you could attach the plan to your forum post.
  5. It varies by municipality in my area. Some use gross area of all levels, including lofts and mezzanines within a floor/story, basements, and garages. Some allow "deductions", such as the first 500 sqft of an attached garage is "free." It's kind of like ISR - some municipalities allow open decks and gravel paths/drives to be considered as pervious, others define them as impervious.
  6. Anything outside of someone's competency should absolutely be handed off. However, most engineers also use software tools to run their calcs - if you know the design principles and how to properly apply the software, then it can save a lot of time, coordination, and fees.
  7. This is my preferred solution also. The IRC also has good tables and references, particularly for prescriptive ICF solutions.
  8. Uploading the plan file is your first step.

    Cupola

Not sure where you want the cupola, but one option is to go to the Attic level and draw cupola walls. Then go to the Second Floor, turn on the Reference Display to see the cupola walls, and break the roof planes and move them back to the edges of the cupola walls. Then go back to the Attic level and draw the cupola roof. You can also create a Ceiling Hole on the second floor if the cupola is for daylighting.
  10. Perry, he double-posted. The post with attachment is https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/10317-porch-how-to-adjust-columns/
  11. Like David said, or read the tutorial starting on page 70 of the X8 User's Guide.
  12. A Google search for Architectural Rendering Services will give you a start. The China, India, etc. companies are usually cheaper. We've used them in the past for big commercial projects - quick turn-around, though the language barrier sometimes interferes.
  13. Railing Specification>Rail Style>Newels/Posts>No Half Post at Wall Railing Specification>Newels/Balusters>Newels/Posts>Width>7.5" Railing Specification>Newels/Balusters>Newels/Posts>Spacing>100'
  14. Page 662 of the X8 Reference Manual has very simple and clear instructions on how to create a molding profile. Be sure the profile is a single open or closed polyline (not a CAD block). It's easy to check if what you saved to your User Library is a valid profile: simply right click the item and check for the Place Molding Profile option in the menu: ...if the option isn't there, then the item isn't a valid profile.
  15. I don't get that when I open the Room Specification dbx from the plan you uploaded: Interesting.
  16. Or select the kitchen room, open the dbx, check the Default box for Structure>Ceiling: ...and click OK when you get the warning: now your kitchen ceiling is all the same height: ...though you may want to check what's going on upstairs above the kitchen.
  17. I'd extend the garage foundation down below the frost depth of the lower grade. Shoot a X-Section/Elevation of the foundation wall and break/adjust the wall polyline.
  18. The problem is you have "No Rail on Selected Edge" checked in the dbx for that landing edge: Uncheck it and you'll get a railing:
  19. No. Go to More Reply Options and attach the file.
  20. To get the glass material to change you must have a side width for the Sash. Why? I don't know, but it's necessary.
  21. If you attach the plan file it will be easier for folks to help.
