Go to your attic level, you'll see you have a short couple feet long attic wall (You can just see it there in the pic you posted on the very right side). While there, just drag the left side of that wall toward the left.

Thanks for mentioning this Graeme, Even though it's not the solution Alan was seeking, I have often had issues with transom windows... this may help. Definitely going to play around with it.

Those kinds of things can be a PITA to get rid of sometimes...for me. Perhaps someone has a better solution... I usually just erase from the layout, but it appears you have 3 separate attic walls, and those are showing the joints. If you're done modeling the roof, you could try turning off "auto-rebuild attic walls" and then delete the two right pieces of attic wall and stretch the far left piece all the way to the right.

That's a good idea. Will need to remember that.

I Need to show door swing direction in door label
DzinEye replied to architekker1's topic in General Q & A
That's been the standard way of calling out sizes since I learned it back in the 80's... is there a different common standard nowadays? -
Did you use the 'Join Roof Planes' tool ? Also looks like left and right lower roof pitches are not the same
-
open the dbx for that wall you just made, under 'general' set the wall to be an attic wall and under 'roof' check the box for it to be cut by roof below. Looks like you need to drag that front (right side of gable) roof back to touch the wall too though... and it appears that new wall is not actually in line with the 2nd floor wall?.. check to be sure it is.

Is there a way to stop walls from snapping together
DzinEye replied to DzinEye's topic in General Q & A
Thanks Dermot, Yes, I've used that feature a few times now (whether a post or 1/2 post shows at the wall)... but does that prevent the wall from seeing the railing as intersecting? Eric's response makes me think not, but perhaps I'm wrong. I'm working in a project I have to keep in X11 for this particular example. -

Perfect, thanks guys. I guess no magic switch to turn off wall snapping on a case by case basis though. -
When walls get within a set distance (Chief bases this distance on wall thickness) from one another, they want to snap together, which is usually great, but not always. Is there a way to prevent it? Would like to know the answer in general, but especially asking for a condition where a rail comes up perpendicular to the wall, but I don't want the joint between the two parallel/co-linear walls snapping to the intersection with the perpendicular rail.

Yep, I saw that in your section. That should be fixed.
-
Yep true enough... but I'll probably create another layer just for those, because I usually have other invisible walls that I want to keep in their semi-visible state.
-
Yep...seen it happen to me a hundred times, and always wish it would just delete on the 2nd erase rather than messing with auto-rebuild

Also need to uncheck 'Automatic'

Thank you Dermot! Any feedback on keeping these items updated for new Chief versions, especially if I modify their names?

This too (90% use of own library) is essentially my goal in finally setting up a proper library. I'm so tired of skimming through hundreds of Chief items I will probably never use to find what I want...though I realize setting up filters is what I need to do to better use Chiefs library, I would like to make some changes to many of the things (like gloss and direction of flooring for instance), so I'm intent on getting this library right. Alas, sounds like there's no magic bullet to keeping things updated when Chief updates library items. Out of curiosity if you don't mind, what percentage of your customized library items will not work when a new version of Chief comes out? Really appreciate your info!

Thank you Rene. Good info! BTW...I added the following detail to my original question which if you have any insight on, would appreciate your feedback..> "One thing I dislike about Chiefs library items is the naming scheme... e.g.; Instead of 'Green chair', White chair' etc.,, I prefer 'Chair_Green. Am I going to have problems if I depart from Chiefs naming scheme? Suggestions for what to do if I copy a Chief item and rename it in my library for keeping track and updating that item when Chief updates? " E.g.: I would like to take my favorite items whole cloth from Chief and add them to my user library for easier access.

This kind of surprises me. I wouldn't think this is how you'd build a full hip?... so why a partial? I understand though, you're looking at Chief from the perspective of building it, but first it has to be designed, and from the design point of view, I'm looking at it from how wide would I want that section of hip to be in relation to the overall width of roof and roof pitch. Once the look is established I can call out on the plans the plate height and width for that section of roof... wouldn't that be just what you need to frame it?

Thank you. If you know, is there a way to copy the folder format without having to create it from scratch?

I've been hacking along forever just throwing things into the User Library folder... and finally want to start a proper User library. Before I start, wondering if anyone has any advice/suggestions that would benefit me before I get going with it. Of course I knew you were just having a dig, but you're right...architects do put a lot of that kind of language on the drawings... I definitely have both you posted on all my drawings!
-
Oh bloody hell... it always circles back to being the architects fault
-
Seems to work without it?
-
Curious... why do you need to use 'no room definition'?
-
I don't think so... but even if it were possible to model it, not sure anyone would build it because the doors would risk hitting each other and breaking. If you're intent on modeling it you could probably do it using windows. Here's two casement windows... with no trim, sash or sill
