  1. you could try using the "edit area - all floors" tool Lew
  2. you probably won't hear from CA until it is time to start the BETA not everyone is accepted but there are multi stages of testing and you may be selected for a later stage then just before final release anyone who has active SSA can participate Lew
  3. Anna: look under MENU - FILE - IMPORT and MENU - FILE - EXPORT to see what formats Chief can work with Lew
  4. Anna: sorry, but that is the only option at this time I have asked for "complete layer control" so that only the active layers display but no joy so far Lew
  5. I miss the ability to lock items in Revit. If I needed something to say in a specific spot, I could lock it and if by doing other things in Revit, things that would normally automatically change or move that item, I would get a message Anna: yep, this is an issue with Chief while you can lock the layer which then prevents you from moving the object if you take actions that cause Chief to decide to move the object there are no warning messages Lew
  6. I think most users on this forum will agree that Chief is the "best" for doing residential and this opinion comes honestly and not just "ours is better than yours" you can download and try the Chief demo for free also contact CA's sales team and they will be very friendly and helpful in addressing your questions Lew
  7. these may help ? http://www.chiefsymbols.com/ Lew
  8. Michael: I have Sketchup installed but don't use it I use "open with" because my partner and I used to help other Chiefers on their projects and we used to have many versions of chief installed (finally limited it to 3) Lew
  9. Johnny: I select the layout or plan file to open in windows file explorer right click then choose "open with" then I choose the desired version of Chief Note: I always add "X6" or "X8" etc to the file name so I know which ver it was created in many times I have suggested that CA add the ver id to the file name but they haven't seen the wisdom yet so the extensions would be .layx8 or .planx8 etc Lew
  10. there is an edit flag that has to be set in Chief or the plan will be read only if you use any Premier features that PRO doesn't have that feature/area will be read only plan sharing can work but there are considerations as Ray stated the two have to be on the same version level to share Lew
  11. then lock that layer sorry, but while this prevents the user from moving the item directly Chief is allowed to move it Lew
  12. I also miss the ability to 'lock' items. When I place something in a critical location, I want to be able to ensure that it does not move, at least not without giving me a warning. If this is a capability, I am unaware of it. Anna: No, you are not missing much Chief is sorely lacking in this area Lew
  13. Jon: you are correct - my bad I read too quick and assumed HD Interiors which cost $79 .... Lew
  14. One review I read said it will only create 18x24 size sheets this is why CA should rebrand their HD product line to avoid confusion with Chief Premier HD PRO should be called HD Deluxe or HD Master calling it PRO gives the wrong impression Lew
  15. Jon: I doubt HD products can export DAE files ... If a Chief Premier user volunteered to do the export for them that would probably work Lew
  16. the HD products are very limited in features etc the Chieftalk forum is primarily for Chief Premier users you should probably ask your question on the Hometalk forum look under MENU - FILE - EXPORT for your available export formats I think you would need to use .DXF format Lew
  17. Perry: I'm working in X6 I installed X7 but never bothered with it I have X8 but can't find time to install it Lew
  18. Debby: chieftalk is aimed at users of Chief Premier you need to re-post your query in the Hometalk forum you should also post in the Q&A section the seeking services section of the forums is for those seeking to hire services you can also contact CA's tech support for assistance good luck Lew
  19. Jeff: never had an issue reading text ??? still working on my museum Oct 27 I give a presentation on the Great Gorge RR including the station at the Buttery Elevators double decker stone platform is still down there Lew
  20. The problem with doing this is your text height is no longer to scale and will be difficult to read Jeff: not sure about that ??? I had no issues but I was doing this with X4 and earlier and without using annosets recently I created info sheets for my family's celebration of our ancestors arrival on the Niagara Frontier in 1816 I created them for 22 x 34 planning to print on 11 x 17 but ended up printing on 8 1/2 x 11 and they looked and read fine Lew
  21. Shane: changing scale via print size is a standard procedure HD users are recommended to create 12 x 18 at 1/8 scale then print 24 x 36 to get 1/4 scale since they are limited to max 12 x 18 Lew
  22. try 24 x 36 drawing paper with 1" border all the way around that will give 22 x 34 at 1/4" scale then print to 11 x 17 real paper and it should be 1/8" scale Lew
  23. best to print to PDF first or you can waste lots of paper Lew
  24. Michael: that was it I was clicking on the line parallel to my goal side Shane: thanks, also Lew
  25. The center line is showing on bottom/top or sides but when I click it moves the text box all the way over surely there has to be a way to do this without "fussing" Lew
